On the morning of January 23, 2024, actor Gary Graham, star of the "Alien Nation" TV series, the cult classic "Robot Jox," and multiple-time "Star Trek" supporting player, passed away at the age of 74. Graham had a prolific acting career, appearing in single episodes of many of the hottest TV shows of his day, including "Starsky & Hutch," "The Incredible Hulk," Knots Landing," "CHiPs," "T.J. Hooker," "Hunter," "M.A.N.T.I.S.," "Diagnosis Murder," "Ally McBeal," "Jag," and "Nip/Tuck." He had an easy demeanor, allowing him to play comedic affable characters just as well as intense, serious ones.
Trekkies likely know Graham best for playing Soval on "Star Trek: Enterprise." Soval was the snippy Vulcan ambassador who oversaw Earth's very, very slow transition from post-war ruin to a thriving society ready for space exploration. In the timeline of "Star Trek," humanity discovers warp-speed flight while the world is recovering from nuclear devastation. On the very first Earth warp flight,...

The glory-obsessed, wild-eyed Klingon character of Gowron (Robert O'Reilly) was first introduced in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Reunion", in which the leadership of the Klingon High Council was in a state of flux. It seemed that the old Chancellor K'mpec (Charles Cooper) was being slowly poisoned, and one of two men was set to take his place. There was the dishonorable Duras (Patrick Massett) or the mysterious Gowron. Ultimately, Worf (Michael Dorn) killed Duras in a fit of rage after Duras murdered Worf's mate K'Ehlyr (Suzie Plakson), leaving Gowron in charge. Gowron would sit at the head of the Klingon High Council as Chancellor until the events of the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Tacking Into the Wind", when Worf would slay him as well.
Gowron has always been a fan favorite, as Robert O'Reilly's performance was often enjoyably over-the-top. Grit your teeth and growl the phrase "Gloohry to yooooou,...

This Star Trek: Picard contains spoilers.
In the third episode of Star Trek: Picard, things get serious about the origins of Jack Crusher, the nature of the conspiracy against Starfleet, and just how deep into a nebula you can go. Along the way, the show reconnects the canon of Picard to Deep Space Nine, while name-dropping some places you may not remember from other versions of the franchise.
Here are all the best easter eggs and references in “Seventeen Seconds.”
“They Knew Exactly Where to Hit Us”
Right away, we see a screen on the USS Titan, and if you pause and look, you’ll see that the damage to the ship tells us that Impulse Drive is broken and that the aft shield generator has “no charge.” But the distribution of these red areas feels similar to The Wrath of Khan, when Spock points to the spots the Enterprise was damaged and says,...

"Star Trek: Lower Decks" exists in its own humble, chaotic space in the "Star Trek" canon. As a zany adult animated series, its tone is far different from the rest of the franchise. One would think this would be a detriment to how the show would be perceived, and yes, there are some detractors — but "Lower Decks" has its loyal fans, not just within the fandom but also notably within the legacy cast of the franchise.
Despite its main cast being a wacky group of underdogs, "Lower Decks" has seen an impressive amount of cameos from "Star Trek" alumni, including notable fan favorites like J.G. Hertzler as General Martok, James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane, and Alice Krige as the Borg Queen. But one of the first and most substantial cameos came in the return of "The Next Generation" alumni Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi and Jonathan Frakes as William Riker...

In the opening scene of "The Least Dangerous Game" -- the second episode of the third season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- the show's four main characters, in a rare moment of downtime, gather around a table to play a Klingon-based boardgame called "Bat'leths & bIHnuchs." The players are all dressed in Klingon clothing, and they drink from tapered ridged mugs that Klingons are typically seen using throughout "Star Trek." The game board is a hexagonal grid, and bears the red/blood orange/goldenrod color scheme of "The Settlers of Catan." The players roll a 20-sided die.
The central feature of "Bat'leths & bIHnuchs," however, is a small video screen arranged behind the board wherein a pre-recorded game master offers an introduction, dictates the actions of the players, and reacts angrily when they make a bad decision. The game master is none other than Martok (J.G. Hertzler), a recurring Klingon character...

This article contains Star Trek: Lower Decks spoilers.
Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 2
It’s the thrill of the chase. That’s the dominant theme in Star Trek: Lower Decks “The Least Dangerous Game.” Themes of game play, challenge, and the hunt resonate in this episode along with some popular Star Trek and non-Trek elements, all tied together with a little inspiration from a lesser-known character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Anthony Rapp showed us last year that there is a strong intersection between fans of Dungeons & Dragons and Star Trek. Sure enough, when the opening scene of this episode shows us General Martok (voiced by J.G. Hertzler) as the imaginary Dungeon Master in a Klingon screen-directed role-playing game titled Bat’leths & BHInuchs, you could almost hear the fans roll their own polyhedral dice in excitement.
This sets the stage for the rest of the episode, which...

This post contains minor spoilers for episode two of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" season 3, and major spoilers for "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine."
"Star Trek: Lower Decks" is an irreverent animated take on "Star Trek" created by a bunch of nerds who love the franchise and really know their stuff. They know what kinds of Easter eggs and cameos are going to get fans excited, and boy howdy does the latest cameo get me more excited than Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid) on bridge duty. The series has featured a couple of cameos from major "Star Trek: The Next Generation" alumni like Commander Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), but now they're finally giving the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" fanatics their own perfect cartoon cameo.

Hearing about Star Trek actors protesting fracking might at first make a typical fan think the genre is being confused with "Battlestar Galactica." But fracking where miners drill into the Earth, shooting a high-pressure water mix to release the gas inside is a real environmental concern to many, including popular Trek actors J.G. Hertzler and James Cromwell. The two were arrested Monday morning during a protest at Seneca Lake, just north of Watkins Glen. They were among 19 people put in cuffs for blocking traffic in and out of the Crestwood Midstream facility, where a company looks to store materials needed for fracking.Hertzler, who is a local elected official in the nearby town of Ulysses, played the one-eyed Klingon Gen. Martok in 27 episodes of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," but also appeared ...

Walter Koenig, who played Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek series, is set to receive his star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. He is the last cast member of the original crew to receive the honour and he will unveil the star on Hollywood Boulevard on September 10th 2012. It’s being reported that the star will be close to the plaque of friend and co-star George Takei, who played Mr Sulu.
A two-day celebration will coincide with the event. On 8th September there will be a gala event that will also mark the 46th anniversary of Star Trek which first aired in 1966. The following day Koenig will be on the receiving end of a roast at the Beverly Garland Hotel.

Before DVDs, there was the VHS rental market, syndication, and the occasional art house or revival, but really, the industry was sitting on a whole lot of unmonetized content in their archives. Then along came the DVD: people started collecting, studio archivists got assistants, and suddenly everyone was making money (and making-of featurettes). Fifteen years on, well, you can only release Seinfeld so many times, so here we are, with the Family Channel’s thoroughly mediocre Zorro in hastily produced box set form.
You remember Zorro of course: the Batman of Spanish California, the man with no name who never rides out of town. With trusty steed Tornado, bullwhip and sword, he sows justice in the night with cunning and speed, ("Zorro" is Spanish for "fox", keep up!) and from 1990-1993, he sowed poorly choreographed justice on basic cable. Like Batman, he is a man of education and means, but unlike Bruce Wayne,...
