A day after TheWrap exclusively reported that 21st Century Fox paid off a woman who accused former top executive David Hill of sexual misconduct 19 years ago, questions persist regarding whether the company has made sufficient changes to its corporate culture. According to two individuals with knowledge of the situation, the payment happened in 1998 when Hill, a longtime member of Rupert Murdoch’s inner circle, was chairman of Fox Sports. The case predated the sexual harassment investigations that led to the departures of Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and founder Roger Ailes, along with the dismissal of Fox Sports President Jamie Horowitz earlier this.

21st Century Fox paid off a woman who accused former top executive David Hill of sexual misconduct while he ran Fox Sports, two individuals with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap. The payment happened in 1998, and suggests Fox had issues with sexual harassment long before the investigations that led to the exits of Fox News star Bill O’Reilly and founder Roger Ailes, and the ouster of Fox Sports President Jamie Horowitz last month. The payment came when Hill was chairman of Fox Sports. Hill, part of Fox chief Rupert Murdoch’s inner circle, was promoted to chairman of Fox Sports Media Group the.

The Academy took its time finding its Oscar producers this year.
For three years in a row (2012-2014) they could rest easy knowing that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were in charge, but since they moved on the AMPAS president Cheryl Boone Isaacs and CEO Dawn Hudson are back to trying to convince someone to take on the often arduous and thankless task.
They usually pick a team to split the chores as they did last year with Reginald Hudlin and David Hill, who by all reports, were like oil and water. That wasn’t going to happen again. With less-than-glowing reviews for the last few Oscars, Isaacs and Hudson were looking for someone they could count on to elevate the event.
The Academy has never found another producer like director Gil Cates, who produced the Oscar show 14 times between 1990 and 2008, bringing in Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, David Letterman, Steve Martin,...

It took quite a long time, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences finally found, er, announced who will produce the 89th Academy Awards. At this rate, however, we’ll be lucky to have a host by Christmas.
Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd will produce this year’s show, following what has been described as a not-so-great partnership between Reginald Hudlin and David Hill.

Now that we’re less than five months away from the Oscars 2017 telecast on February 26, 2017, the countdown is officially on. It’s still too early to know the nominations for the 89th Academy Awards, but finding out who will be the lucky person — or people — hosting the show is imminent.
For the Oscars in 2013, 2015, and 2016, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the host — Seth MacFarlane, Neil Patrick Harris, and Chris Rock, respectively — in the October preceding the show. Ellen DeGeneres actually tweeted that she would be hosting the show in 2014 the August before and it was declared that Billy Crystal would be hosting — his 9th time overall — the show in 2012 the November before after Eddie Murphy backed out.

Jada Pinkett and Will Smith weren't the only targets on Oscars night. Following the 88th Annual Academy Awards, 25 members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who are of Asian descent wrote a lengthy letter to the Academy's board of governors—president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, CEO Dawn Hudson and Oscar producers Reginald Hudlin and David Hill—expressing their disappointment and anger with a particular skit that played out during the show. As first-time producers of the Academy Awards, Reginald Hudlin and David Hill couldn’t have picked a more challenging year to head up the show. Working with host Chris Rock, they faced the #OscarsSoWhite controversy that threatened to overshadow the ceremony itself. This year's Academy Awards had an exciting new flourish: a scroll that would run underneath the winners, allowing the acceptance speeches to be freer, less bound to strictly thanking your stylist, management, and publicist, and, most important, allows the speeches to be shorter. (This Oscar ceremony, so far, has been remarkably swift, with few of the winners actually having to be "played off," thanks largely to the scroll.)
At an Oscar lunch, producers Reginald Hudlin and David Hill unveiled the scroll. "Words are written on the winds, a screen crab of your scroll can be kept forever," they said. Hill later said: "That started us thinking, how can we ensure that the winners have an opportunity to say what's in their hearts and thank the most important people at the same time?"
And there is a precedent: Hilary Swank forgot to thank her then-husband Chad Lowe, and recently the Hollywood...

What’s with that crawl of names along the bottom of the screen at this year’s Oscars? When the first award of the evening, best original screenplay, was announced, a cable news-style ticker tape began running along the bottom of the screen with a long-list of thank-yous. Turns out the thank-you crawl is the newest innovation from David Hill, who is producing this year’s Oscar show along with Reginald Hudlin. The Oscars are always packed with surprises. But what do we know about what’s going to happen on the stage of the Dolby Theatre during the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday night? Not much. And that’s by design. Show producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin have kept a tighter lid on this year’s Oscar rehearsals than any other recent producers, and in the midst of the #OscarsSoWhite furor both they and host Chris Rock have stopped talking to the press. The Academy has announced more than 40 presenters and performers, but just in long lists with no hints about what they’ll.

Among the many complaints about the annual Oscar show — the length; the gaudy musical numbers; the endless tributes; and dear god, the length — is how the ceremony's producers tend to have a heavy hand when prompting the exit music during the winners' speeches. The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.
Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Nearly two months ago, when the Academy announced that Reginald Hudlin and David Hill had been tapped to produce the 88th Oscars, nobody was more supportive of their selection than me. But I regret to report that I am baffled by their handling of the biggest decision they will get to make — namely, their selection of the show’s host, now that they’ve announced they’ve decided on Chris Rock.

Although Reginald Hudlin and David Hill, who are producing the 88th Oscars, originally talked of hiring two hosts to front the broadcast, the producers said they opted for a solo host once they secured Chris Rock — with Hill joking, "We decided on Chris and Rock." Downplaying reports that other co-hosts like Amy Schumer were under consideration, Hill said, "It became apparent that Chris by himself was the way to go. If you tried to pair him with someone, it wouldn’t have the same comedic impact of him working by himself. So that’s where we ended up." Rewatching Rock's

Chris Rock has confirmed he'll be the next Academy Awards show host. He previously hosted the 2005 broadcast. Ratings for this year's show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, fell some 16% leading to the installment of two new producers in September: television veteran David Hill (American Idol) and Reginald Hudlin (NAACP Image Awards). Hudlin is also an experienced director who helmed the pilot episode for Rock's TV show Everybody Hates Chris, so presumably that means he already has a good working relationship with Rock. Rock himself just directed the comedy special Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo, which aired last weekend, and also wrote, directed, and starred in last year's comedy Top Five. But he's best known as a live performer, so he sounds like a...

The Oscars are pushing for diversity in the areas where they can. But the biggest, most visible area is the one they can’t control. That’s the dilemma that faces Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, AMPAS CEO Dawn Hudson and Oscar show producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin — and the dilemma that no doubt factored into the choice of Chris Rock to host the 88th Academy Awards in February. Yes, Rock is a comic star who’s hosted the show before and clearly has the skill set to handle a tough gig. But hiring the African-American comedian and actor to serve as the.

It's official. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has announced that Chris Rock will return to host the 88th Academy Awards coming up in late February next year. This will be the second time that Rock hosts the Oscars, as he first hosted them back in 2005 (when Million Dollar Baby won). He has not been nominated yet, but Rock returns as a successful filmmaker this time, having made the films I Think I Love My Wife and Top Five since last hosting. "Chris Rock is truly the Mvp of the entertainment industry," said producers David Hill & Reginald Hudlin. "Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian – he's done it all. He's going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!" And he's funny. Bring on the Oscar season. The Academy's announcement comes with a whole host of praise and appreciation for Chris Rock: “I'm so glad to be hosting the Oscars,” said Rock.

This year’s Oscars are going to get a little Rock-y. Bad jokes aside, after being rumored earlier this week, it has now been officially confirmed that Chris Rock will serve as the host of the 2016 Oscars. This will be Rock’s second time hosting the Academy Awards. The last time he took the stage to emcee film’s biggest night was back in 2005, when he was picked to give the telecast a little more “edge,” even though it was heavily reported that older Oscar officials were not fans of Rock’s jokes throughout the night. Last year’s Oscars, which were hosted by Neil Patrick Harris (who was criticized by many for his job as host, despite his glowing record of hosting previous awards shows), hit a six-year ratings low in audience. The upcoming Academy Awards will be produced by Reginald Hudlin and David Hill, who have been quoted as saying that…...

It's official - Chris Rock will be hosting the Oscars for a second time.
The comedian previously took charge of Hollywood's biggest night in 2005, and is now confirmed to host the next Academy Awards on February 28, 2016.
"I'm so glad to be hosting the Oscars," said Rock. "It's good to be back."
"Chris Rock is truly the Mvp of the entertainment industry," said Oscars producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin.
"Comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, documentarian - he's done it all. He's going to be a phenomenal Oscar host!"
Rock previously told Digital Spy he was eager to take charge of the Academy Awards again.
"I would love to host the Oscars again. I mean, you know they gotta want me," he said. "I mean, every year they have a great host. It's not like they're like, 'No, Chris Rock we're not using, we got Pauly Shore' - they're like,...

The yearly endurance test known as the Oscars often relies heavily on the host to keep an audience from falling asleep, flipping to something else, or tuning in at all. And each year, the Academy tries something a little different to keep things interesting. They went edgy with Seth MacFarlane a few years ago and that turned out badly, so they switched gears, with Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris providing mainstream, comfortable, if not entirely memorable duties on the stage. So what's the plan for 2016? Well, Chris Rock is returning to host, over a decade since his turn in 2005. Producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin teased last month they might go down the road of having a pair of hosts, but it seems those plans didn't pan out. Rock is a great choice, and as you can see from his 2005 opening monologue below, he's not afraid to take jabs,...

Chris Rock hosted the 2005 Oscars to wide acclaim and healthy ratings. So it makes sense that new show producers Reginald Hudlin and David Hill have tempted him back to the big stage for next year’s event. The Oscars have proved to be a tricky assignment in recent years – experiments such as having Seth MacFarlane host haven’t turned out that well and even experienced event Mc Neil Patrick Harris couldn’t quite make the show sing last year. Of course, it can sometimes depend on the films nominated, the stars who show up and the quality of the various segments in between the awards (plus how long the whole thing runs over time). Originally reported by comedy site Robot Butt, the initial idea was to pair Rock with another host – Amy Schumer, whose HBO comedy special Rock recently directed, was approached but turned the idea down – and now he...

According to Variety, on Tuesday, Chris Rock was in "serious talks" to host next year's Oscars ceremony, confirming rumors first reported by Robot Butt, we typed with a straight face. Well, talks got so serious that his hosting was confirmed today by ceremony producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin, and Rock himself, who said in a statement, “I’m so glad to be hosting the Oscars. It’s great to be back.” The gig will be Rock's second time hosting the Oscars; his previous go-round was marred by controversy over a joke he made about Jude Law, which is another way of saying it took place in 2005. Rock was rumored to be on the short list to host last year's ceremony, which took place shortly after his headline-making Top Five press tour, and the comedian later said he would "definitely" have taken the job had it been offered to him.
