Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book” achieved a new level of photographic-based realism in re-imagining the Disney animated classic, which is why it’s the VFX Oscar favorite. You believe that the real Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi) belonged in the virtual jungle with the CG Bagheera, Baloo, Shere Khan and King Louie. Favreau had two-time Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Rob Legato (“Hugo” and “Titanic”) to thank for engineering his tech success (watch the video below, “Rob Legato on Virtual Production and Technicolor”).
For Legato, The Jungle Book” represents the latest in a long line of photo-real advancements blending live-action and VFX with seamless precision, including “Apollo 13,” “Titanic,” The Aviator,” “Avatar” (facilitating the virtual production workflow for James Cameron) and “Hugo.”

Mere hours after Domnhall Gleeson enlisted for Netflix’s original drama, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Joel McHale has been added to National Lampoon origins movie A Futile and Stupid Gesture as Chevy Chase.
It’s a casting coup that’s enough to send Troy and Abed into a tizzy, now that McHale has been set to portray his former Community co-star. Centering on National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney (Will Forte), the feature film will chart the magazine’s meteoric rise to prominence in the early 70s when it became a comedic mainstay. Then, Kenney and Henry Beard (Gleeson) formed a creative team with fellow Harvard student Robert Hoffman, working on the likes of Caddyshack and Animal House in the years that followed.

Netflix is making a film called A Futile and Stupid Gesture that's about the origins of National Lampoon, and THR reports that Joel McHale has been hired to play Chevy Chase. This should be especially interesting to those who watched Community, NBC's comedy series on which McHale co-starred with Chase. Over the years, McHale hasn't been afraid to riff about Chase's dickish actions and gruff personality, but it seems like his own acerbic wit and penchant for sarcastic delivery was probably influenced by Chase's early career, so there's a nice ironic touch to this casting.
A Futile and Stupid Gesture stars Will Forte as National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney and Domhnall Gleeson as co-founder Henry Beard, and it's being directed by Wet Hot American Summer's David Wain.
Kenney was the editor of the Harvard Lampoon when he met Henry Beard and Robert Hoffman, which, soon after graduation, resulted in the creation of National Lampoon,...

Attention comedy geeks everywhere! To paraphrase a literary classic, this new documentary feature lets us all “look back in laughter” at one of the most influential humor magazines of the last fifty years. Actually its legacy reaches on past its newstand existence. Yes, it’s been absent from newsstands (there’s still a few of them left) for nearly twenty years. But, to paraphrase again, we’ve come “not to bury this magazine, but to praise it”. And to recall the chuckles and the mini-empire it spawned. Of course, this wasn’t the first humor publication. Puck paved the way decades before. Then Mad magazine shook up the staid 1950’s. But by 1970, that mag had somewhat settled into a (still entertaining) routine, poking fun at suburbia, and wasn’t connecting with the “counter-culture”. Younger “baby boomers” wanted their humor to have a sharper edge, to reflect the “hippie” spirit, and...

To those not fortunate enough to have come of age in the 60s heyday of revolutionary freethinking, it may come as a surprise to learn that the story of National Lampoon, in many ways, is the story of the birth and rise of modern comedy.Drunk, Stoned, Brilliant, Dead: The Story of the National Lampoon thoroughly and effectively paints this picture, making evident the correlation of comedy and Rock & Roll. Both mediums were, at the time, received as somewhat lowbrow forms of entertainment: as far as high culture was concerned Rock & Roll played to the pelvis whereas the brand of comedy conceived by Doug Kenney, Henry Beard and Robert Hoffman in 1969, played to a puerile, delinquent desire to lampoon the grown-up world. Yet...

Back in October, Kate Gosselin succeeded in halting the sale of a nasty tell-all by Robert Hoffman, a friend of her estranged husband, Jon Gosselin. The book, "Kate Gosslin: How She Fooled The World," was pulled from Amazon shortly after its release due to charges of inappropriately obtained confidential documents -- including a series of private emails exchanged between the "Kate Plus 8" star and the Discovery network that troubled TLC.
In January, Hoffman told HuffPost Celebrity of plans to rework the manuscript and move forward with its release.
But now come reports that Kate, 37, is attempting to put together a lawsuit against her ex-husband, as she believes Jon gave Hoffman the computer hard drive with her personal information and private journals, which provided fodder for the book.
“Jon was notified recently of Kate’s intentions to file a lawsuit against him, but the whole thing is ridiculous,” a source tells Radar.

Kate Gosselin might have won the first battle in her effort to halt the sale of a nasty ebook being written about her -- but she hasn't yet won the war.
In October 2012, Kate successfully halted the sale of the ebook, in which writer Robert Hoffman (a friend of Kate's ex-husband Jon) alleged that the reality TV star and mom of eight "fooled the world." Now, Robert has come back with a re-edited version of the story, he says, and he warns it's still full of bombshells.
“The book is almost finished going through the re-editing process and will be released in hardcover as well as ebook format,” Robert tells The Huffington Post. “I’m actually enjoying the fact that Kate has been staying out of the news. Perhaps it's the calm before the storm.”
The book was removed after only two days on Amazon when lawyers intervened, claiming confidential emails were being published.

Kate Gosselin is so determined to return to reality TV that she is funding her own pilot, hoping that a cable network will like what it sees and green-light her new show.
“I know three different cable networks that have passed on making a pilot with Kate,” one network insider tells me. “Kate and her children are a known TV quantity -- it's an easy yes or no.”
As the answer has so far has been a universal no, Gosselin has been forced to pay to produce the show herself and hopes once a network sees it, someone will bite.
“Many shows that have initially been denied funding and were self-produced went on to be major hits,” one producer tells me. “‘Jersey Shore’ and Oxygen’s new reality show ‘Girl Confidential’ were all produced on spec. The difference is both of these shows involved unknowns that needed to prove themselves on camera.

When Kate Gosselin found out that her reality show had been canceled back in November 2011, she told me money was the first thing that came to mind. Kate vowed to do whatever necessary to provide for her eight children, and insisted the amount of money she was rumored to have made was not accurate. However, a newly released book claims Kate earned at least $2,499,000 from her reality show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8."
“I read what we apparently make and it's hysterical. That would be a dream come true times two million. So it's certainly way less than people think. We are not set for life,” Kate said in 2011. “You know, I need to work as soon as possible -- as in yesterday.”
Now, the author of a controversial new book, "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled The World," claims to have detailed accounts of exactly how much Kate made for each...

It appears a tell-all book about Kate Gosselin may have told a little too much.
The e-book, penned by Robert Hoffman, a friend of Kate's estranged husband, Jon Gosselin, was pulled from Amazon just two days after its release following charges of inappropriately obtained confidential documents.
A friend of Gosselin's, who had not read the book, told HuffPost "The book sounds like a whole lot of nothing blown up to look sensational."
Sensational, indeed. Bits of the work, titled "Kate Gosslin: How She Fooled The World," contained statements of alleged child abuse, reports Hollywood Life.
Just because the book has disappeared from shelves, however, doesn't mean the damage has been contained.
RadarOnline reports Hoffman allegedly has "more explosive" material he doesn't intend to publish but could potentially make public:
“The other 90 percent of the material that I possess will not be published, ever, but you can be sure that if...

Kate Gosselin has scored a victory. She has gotten her lawyers to halt the sale of a shocking new book that claims that the mom of eight "fooled the world."
"The book sounds like a whole lot of nothing blown up to look sensational," a friend of Kate's, who has not read the book, tells me. "Sometimes it's best to ignore something, especially something self-published that hasn't attracted that much attention. If Kate fights back or makes a statement, it might make people more interested. She's checking on the best approach."
However, now it sounds as if Gosselin has decided on the best approach, which has been to get her lawyers to intervene and remove the book from Amazon just two days after its release.
"Kate had her own lawyers deal with this," says a network insider. "TLC lawyers were involved as well, since there was some confidential documents in there.

The author of the condemning book accusing Kate of abusing her eight children reported the former reality star to authorities when he believed the Gosselin children were in danger. As if writing a tell-all book exposing Kate Gosselin for her alleged lies and violence against her eight children wasn't enough, Robert Hoffman, the author of Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World and a friend of Jon Gosselin, actually took legal action against the former reality star. "I personally contacted Child Protection Services (sic) twice in 2010 when I found the journal,” he told RadarOnline.com in a written response. “I sent them copies of what I had and they told me they would look into it and that's the last I heard. I've tried to talk to Kate several times in 2010, but she wouldn't acknowledge my existence." Robert claims in his book, which has since been pulled from Amazon.

The former 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' star is accused of grabbing her kids by their hair and beating them with a wooden spoon -- when they were just babies! Read on for the shocking details. Kate Gosselin was never known for her warm demeanor on the TLC show Jon & Kate Plus 8, but a new book is alleging that her parenting was more than strict -- it was downright abusive. “She was beating 2-year-old babies in diapers,” reporter Robert Hoffman told Star magazine. He claims he found secret journals that Kate used to write her books Multiple Bles8ings and EightLittle Faces. Robert says the journals detailed how she constantly used a wooden spoon to hit her children, and would even grab them by their hair. “I don’t judge somebody for spanking, but what Kate wrote in her journal is just absolute violence,” he told the magazine. One instance in...

Reality-tv star Kate Gosselin is being accused of excessively spanking in her kids and other parenting transgressions in a new book ... written by a self-professed friend of her ex-husband, Jon.
The allegations come in a self-published e-book called "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World" by Robert Hoffman, a reporter who has covered the Gosselins and says he's a friend of Jon's.
Per Radar Online, the book claims Gosselin frequently uses a wooden spoon she calls "The Spanker" on her eight children and has punished them for acts as seemingly innocent as trying to climb out of a crib. He also claims Kate has yanked her kids' hair.
Hoffman's source is allegedly a hard drive he found in Jon Gosselin's trash that contained Kate's journals and hundreds of her e-mails. The journals, Hoffman says, were used in the writing of Kate's two books, "Multiple Bles8ings" and "Eight Little Faces.

There had been a lot of reports lately that Kate Gosselin is abusing her eight kids. This is all because of a book the was recently published by a man named Robert Hoffman. The book was entitled Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled The World.
Apparently, the book says that Kate is a meanie mom and is an unfit mother. The book even includes the fact that she was reading the popular book Fifty Shades of Grey.
Kate, who is very much trying to reinvigorate her career, tweeted in response to these allegations. She briefly addressed the situation but never named the man who wrote it.
It is apparent that she is trying to be positive about the situation. She tweeted that she believed in kind words, deeds and positivity above anything else. She also noted that the attention should be turned towards making the world better.
