When I came to L.A. from Iowa in the '70s, I found a vibrant theater community. Actors who had come from all over the country to work in film and television were creating an exciting scene because it was crucial to honing their craft. There was a sense of community, commitment, and innovation. I joined the Odyssey Theatre, where I've worked as actress and associate artistic director for 34 years.But about 10 years ago, a curious thing happened.
