Sin and Damnation – How Scott Derrickson’s Underrated ‘Hellraiser: Inferno’ Rises Above Expectations
At the recent Silver Scream Con, I was surprised to hear Hellraiser star Doug Bradley remark, “The only one in the series I feel doesn’t work is Inferno, for various reasons.” I had always considered the 2000 effort one of the franchise’s stronger offerings, but it had been a while since I revisited the series, so I thought it may not hold up as well as I remembered.
As I’m working my way through the series ahead of David Bruckner‘s reboot, which drops October 7 on Hulu, I can confirm my support for the fifth installment. I have no doubt that Bradley has his reasons for disliking the film – it being the first installment to be released straight to video no doubt required adjustments, not to mention his minuscule screen time as Pinhead – but, even with its shortcomings, I think Hellraiser: Inferno is better than he gives it credit for.

On Sunday, Paris Hilton announced on Twitter that she and Britney Spears invented the selfie back in 2006, but it didn’t take long before Twitter users began to disprove her claim
“11 years ago today, Me & Britney invented the selfie!” Hilton enthusiastically proclaimed alongside two selfies of the two starlets that served as a receipt for her boast.
However, almost immediately, Twitter users started providing some receipts of their own.
“Liar,” one user wrote alongside a Gif of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon cozying up to take a selfie with a Polaroid camera in 1991’s Thelma and Louise.

Gotham Season 1, Episode 17: “Red Hood”
Written by Danny Cannon
Directed by Nathan Hope
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on Fox
The season enters its final quarter with an episode that escalates the drama of the ongoing plots alongside a standalone case that interestingly adapts a Batman villain to the small screen. Gordon and the Gcpd are not so much downplayed in this episode as they are given equal attention as the four other separate plots that are playing out. The episode does a great job juggling the separate narratives without them needing to cross paths until the very end.
There is a lot of momentum in the Bruce Wayne story after he has faced the Wayne Enterprises Board threatening to reveal their misconduct. The episode highlights Alfred as he is faced with someone from his past. It’s a slow build, but an enjoyable one as the story seeps...

Review Ron Hogan 17 Nov 2013 - 13:05
The Tomorrow People offers some much-needed character development this week. Here's Ron's review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 Sorry For Your Loss
Throughout the first six episodes of The Tomorrow People, there's been one real stand-out character in the process and, unfortunately, he's the guy who has been getting the least amount of character development or screen time, probably because he's not a bland white person. Russell has been chronically undeserved, especially for one of the lead characters, but he's at least been one of the only Tomorrow People to have an emotion other than mope. He's been fun, cracking jokes, showing energy, apparently stealing everything that isn't nailed down using his powers... generally, he's been the likable one. Now, he gets his own episode.
Unfortunately, from the cold opening onward, it's pretty clear that Russell isn't going to get anything other than yet another...

The Tomorrow People, Ep. 1.06, “Sorry for Your Loss”: Focused approach delivers effective, strong ep
The Tomorrow People, Season 1, Episode 6, “Sorry for Your Loss”
Written by Jeff Rake and Utarnachitt
Directed by Nathan Hope
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm Et on the CW
The Tomorrow People continues on its upward trajectory this week with a more or less successful episode. “Sorry for Your Loss” is far from flawless, but it demonstrates a continued prioritization of character that has served the series well. This week Russell is in the spotlight, as we get our first glimpse of his backstory. The Asian teen forced into serious musical study by domineering, strict parents is far from original (had Russell studied violin instead of piano, it may have tipped too fully into stereotyping), but Aaron Yoo for the most part makes it work, selling the emotion of Russell’s journey. He also does a surprisingly good job fake-playing the piano, a rarity on television, thanks to some effective and comparatively subtle editing.

We're a bit disappointed in "Cult" so far, but since we've been a fan of Robert Knepper since his "Carnivale" days, we're holding out hope that things will improve so we can keep seeing him on a weekly basis.
If you concur, here's everything you need to know about what's coming up on the show over the next four weeks:
"Cult" Episode 1.06 - "The Good Fight" (airs 3/29/13, 9-10 pm)
Obba Babatunde (“Dawson’S Creek,” “The Young And The Restless) Guest Stars In The Episode — Skye (Jessica Lucas) collapses the morning after the “Cult” fan party, suffering a serious reaction to the drug she was slipped. The doctors urge Jeff (Matt Davis) to locate a sample of the drug so they can find a way to reverse its effects in order to save Skye’s life.
Detective Sakelik (guest star Aisha Hinds “Weeds”) arrives at the hospital but refuses to help.

We had the great opportunity to interview actress Olivia Dawn York on her upcoming film “Elsewhere” by director Nathan Hope and costarring Anna Kendrick (Twilight) and Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries). Here’s our interview. 1. Tell us about the plot of “Elsewhere”. “Elsewhere” is a film about two girls, Sarah and Jillian, who live in a small, quiet town in Indiana. When Jillian (Raymonde) disappears after she meets someone she has met online, Sarah (Kendrick) takes it upon herself to find out what happened to her best friend. As she begins to reach out to the town for help, she realizes that not only does the town not want to help [...]...

Going into Elsewhere, I didn’t know a single thing about it. I didn’t read any reviews (and still haven’t), so I had no idea of what to expect. I didn’t even read the back of the box, as it’s so rare I get a chance to go into a movie truly blind. I was relishing the opportunity.
The movie is good, there’s no question about that. From its opening sequences, introducing believable kids and true-to-life adults, I was thoroughly enjoying it. A third of the way in or so, the tone of the film changes from mysterious to ominous. You wouldn’t even know it was a horror movie until around this point, as you’re not given much if any indication of where the story is taking you. It’s a slow-going film, with lots of answers but not a whole lot of closure for any of them.
The movie is good, there’s no question about that. From its opening sequences, introducing believable kids and true-to-life adults, I was thoroughly enjoying it. Over the past few years the term “Thriller” has become almost an oxymoron in the film business. Cliché story arcs, lackluster acting, and tedious dialogue have all brought the thumbs down to the genre, delivering finished films that are just about as un-thrilling as wondering why the chicken crossed the road. Trust me it’s not how you want to spend your day. Top it off with an excessive number of Indie filmmakers who all believe their “Thriller” somehow bucks the trend, and you’ve got one massively oversaturated market. “Elsewhere,” written and directed by Nathan Hope, is the story of Sarah (Anna Kendrick) and Jillian, two girls from the same town who want to break free of stagnant small town life. They may be best friends, but their personalities and home life scream “opposite end of the spectrum.” Jillian is the free spirit of the duo, who decides to...

Featuring Anna Kendrick, Chuck Carter, Tania Raymonde, Olivia Dawn York, Paul Wesley
2009, E1 Entertainment Usi’ve noticed a trend in post-2000 indie films. They seem to prefer stylization over personalization, missing some of the deeper elements and essentially, the point of filmmaking. Elsewhere started as one of those but where it ended was a complete surprise...
Anna Kendrick is Sarah, a cute, well put together high schooler whose best friend Jillian (Tania Raymonde) is an absolute mess. The town tramp, Jillian begins searching for love, or rather a way to escape her Podunk existence, online. Here she meets Mr. X. After an ambiguous date with X, Jillian disappears but not before sending a creepy and cryptic video message via a cell phone to Anna. Elsewhere then begs the question, what happens when someone goes missing but no one seems to care?...

Long time cinematographer Nathan Hope has finally gotten his own feature, and besides some stunning looking photography, the story (also written by Hope) looks fantastic. I don't know how films like this slip under the radar especially with a full blown website,
Sarah and Jillian have been best friends for so long they can't remember when their friendship started. Growing up in the small town of Goshen, Indiana the two girls couldn't be more different. Sarah is a star pupil and athlete, a 100-watt-bulb in a five-watt-town, while Jillian is star mischief-maker, a 100lbs-of-trouble in a five-pound-bag. Although both girls long to be break free of the small-town life, Jillian is the first to act, revealing to Sarah that she has been meeting men on-line with the sole purpose of finding someone who will "take her away from this place". Soon thereafter, she disappears leaving Sarah with only a journal...
