[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for S.W.A.T. Season 5 Episode 20 “Quandary.”] Will Chris Alonso (Lina Esco) and Jim Street (Alex Russell) ever get together on S.W.A.T.? The latest episode may have put them firmly on top of a list of most frustrating will they/won’t they TV couples of recent years, given how much they talk about the obstacles in their way yet zero progress has yet to be made. In “Quandary,” Mama Pina (Terri Hoyos) reveals to Chris that she’s dying and all that’s being done is palliative care. Her main concern is the women she helps with her safe house, and Chris decides that finding them a shelter isn’t enough. Mama Pina “provides these women with hope. When she’s gone, I don’t think there’ll be anyone to replace her,” she tells her boss, Hondo (Shemar Moore). But that doesn’t mean someone — Chris — can’t...

ABC has introduced four new sitcoms so far this season. Black-ish is a success and was given a full season order last month while Selfie and Manhattan Love Story were both cancelled. Meanwhile Cristela's fate was uncertain -- until now. The network has now ordered a full season of the Friday night comedy.
On Cristela, a young Mexican-American woman (Cristela Alonzo) works to become an attorney while juggling her responsibilities to her traditional family. The rest of the cast includes Maria Canals-Barrera, Carlos Ponce, Terri Hoyos, Gabriel Iglesias, Sam McMurray, Justine Lupe, and Andrew Leeds.
Debuting on October 10th, the first episode of Cristela drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.51 million viewers. It was an okay start. The ratings dropped in weeks two and three but have now leveled off to about a 1.0 demo rating with around five million viewers.

The non-cbs laugh-tracked multi-cam sitcom might not be having the comeback many had hoped for (sorry, Mulaney), but tonight's premiere of ABC's Cristela is certainly a good argument for the format. At its core, the series is traditional family comedy, set in a Cowboys-loving Texas household. The Hispanic family is made up of the three generations, trading quips in English and, occasionally, in Spanish. Luckily, it's pretty funny in both languages. The show's star quip-trader is Cristela, played by the talented comic Cristela Alonzo. She's magnetic, and a lot of the show's charms come directly from her strengths as a performer.

Cristela the show is a competent though predictable multi-camera comedy, with the sort of stock characters you'd expect: the disapproving mom, the bimbo co-worker, the precocious child, the neighbor who always swings by. It's by-the-book, and the book is called Home Improvement, Grace Under Fire, and the ABC Stand-Up–Centric Sitcom Style of Yesteryear. But Cristela the performer — stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo, who created and stars in the series — is so engaging and funny, you barely notice that the show around her is just so-so.Alonzo stars as the titular character, who's in her sixth year of law school and just landed a prestigious internship at a fancy firm. She's saving money by living with her sister and brother-in-law, their two kids, and her mother, though it's an occasional point of friction. At home, she butts heads with her chronically disappointed mom (Terri Hoyos), the brother-in-law who wishes she'd move...

Now that it is just barely summer, it’s time for the networks to try their best to get you excited for fall television. ABC wants you to get excited for their schedule, and their new shows, and I’ve got some previews for you, as well as some initial thoughts.
I have to tell you, ABC is looking more and more strange as time goes on, and the overall efforts of the network really have to make you wonder. While there are some hints of interesting shows, and one or two that might turn into worthwhile vehicles, in the Eddie and the Cruisers world of television, ABC is Joe Pantoliano, clutching his tapes, and furiously blathering about the lunacy of not giving the idiotic public what they want, especially since they keep demanding it.
To that end, ABC has declared Thursday, Shonda Rhimes night, largely because someone apparently had...

ABC's last bubble show has been spared! It's not a big surprise but "Last Man Standing," a consistent under-the-radar success for ABC on Friday nights, has been picked up for a fourth season. The "Last Man Standing" pickup comes after Friday's late renewal for "Nashville" and leaves ABC with no remaining shows in limbo. ABC also continued its restocking of the pantry after the cancellations of comedies including "Trophy Wife," "Super Fun Night" and "Mixology" by picking up a pair of new sitcoms. Joining ABC's schedule for the 2014-15 season are "Cristela" and "Fresh Off the Boat," which will combine with the previously ordered "Black-ish" to give ABC a comedy slate positively bursting with somewhat segregated diversity. "Fresh Off The Boat" comes from "Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23" creator Nahnatchka Kahn and follows in the footsteps of this season's period coming-of-age comedies. Set in the '90s, it's...

The last comedy standing has been renewed: ABC picked up Tim Allen’s sitcom Last Man Standing for a fourth season.
The order decides the fate of the final comedy series on the bubble from the 2013-14 season. Just a few shows remain in limbo, such as NBC’s Parenthood (expected to return) and Dracula (unlikely). Earlier this week, Last Man Standing’s Friday night companion, The Neighbors, was canceled along with several other ABC comedies (full list of axed shows this week is here).
In addition, ABC announced two more new comedy series orders: Cristela and Fresh Off the Boat.

The 20th Century Fox TV Production is written by Alonzo and Kevin Hench. Hench, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements and Shawn Levy will executive produce. The comedy follows Cristela (Alonzo), who is finally on the brink of landing her first big (unpaid) internship at a prestigious law firm. The only problem is that her pursuit of success is more.

Cristela, ABC‘s semi-autobiographical multi-camera comedy co-created by and starring rising stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo, has locked in its main cast. Terri Hoyos, Roxana Ortega, Carlos Ponce and Andrew Leeds (NCIS: La) have been cast as regulars and newcomer Sarah Halford as recurring in the “proof of concept”/presentation, from 20th TV and 21 Laps/Adelstein. The show, co-written by Alonzo and Kevin Hench, tells the story of Cristela (Alonzo), an American Latina straddling two cultures while not fully belonging to either. Cristela, in her sixth year of law school and living rent-free with her older, thinner, prettier, more traditional sister Daniela (Ortega) and brother-in-law Felix (Ponce), lands a prestigious law firm internship as her old world, outspoken, good-hearted mother Natalia (Hoyos) hectors her about getting a real job, her brother-in-law encourages her to move out and her sister runs low on patience. Leeds, repped by TalentWorks and Evolution, plays Josh,...
