Moviegoers might not recognize the name Carlos Huante, but anyone familiar with the works of Denis Villeneuve most certainly loves his work. Huante is a creature designer who has worked on Villeneuve’s “Arrival” and “Blade Runner 2049,” plus countless other films such as “Star Trek Beyond,” “Prometheus,” and “Hellboy.” In a recent interview with Hn Entertainment, Huante confirms he’s already met with Villeneuve to talk “Dune.” But the most interesting thing about Huante’s interview are some tidbits on the work that went into creating the “Arrival” aliens.
The aliens in Villeneuve’s 2016 cerebral science-fiction movie “Arrival” are known as Heptapods. The film features two such creatures, nicknamed Abbott and Costello. The Heptapods look like a cross between a squid and a spider, but Huante said that wasn’t always the case. During the creature design development phase, Huante said he tried to push an abstract design of...

Sony Pictures has been trying to make a Masters of the Universe movie for over a decade. Now it looks like it’s finally going to happen with directors Adam and Aaron Nee (Band of Robbers) with a script written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.
Before they came on board, the movie was being developed by David S. Goyer, and apparently his vision for the film was too expensive for the studio. Apparently his film would have been a Lord of the Rings-sized epic. The new information regarding Goyer’s vision comes from Carlos Huante, a creature designer and former artist at Industrial Light and Magic. He also worked as a runner on the original He-Man cartoon series and was brought in to help help Goyer with Masters of the Universe.

I'm very curious to see how this upcoming Masters of the Universe film turns out. Director David S. Goyer recently shared a couple photos of him looking at some preliminary designs for some of the characters. The one character that we get a decent look at is of He-Man's right-hand-woman Teela. The things is... she's wearing some kind of mech-type battle-suit!?
I'll be honest... I'm not a fan of it. Look, I like the design... but this in no way represents He-Man and The Masters of the Universe. Why does she need a mech battle suit? This is the first sign for me that this film is being taken in the wrong direction. I want to finally see a He-Man movie that is faithful to the classic action figure line and cartoon that many of us grew up with. No one in the He-Man universe needs a mech suit! All...

Denis Villeneuve’s new philosophical thriller Arrival derives much of its power and mystery from the design of its aliens and their inexplicable, sliver-shaped starships. Squid-like, elephantine, and usually seen only in deftly rationed glimpses, the Heptapods and their ships were the work of artist Carlos Huante, expanding on notes from the original source story, Ted Chiang’s “Story Of Your Life”. But Huante wasn’t the only designer consulted on the project: artist Peter Konig, who’s lent designs to movies like Jurassic Park, Cloverfield, and Splice, also submitted several ideas for the alien’s ultimate designs.
(Image: Peter Konig)
Konig’s Heptapods tend toward the ethereal, reinforcing the idea of the aliens as inherently aquatic beasts. According to an interview the artist recently gave to CinemaBlend, he was also influenced by the alien warmth of horses’ eyes, a choice reflected in the second of these designs:

Since life finds a way, Jurassic Park 4 was eventually made under the title Jurassic World. But many ideas floated around beforehand...
Although Jurassic Park III made less money than The Lost World: Jurassic Park - which itself had made less money than the original Jurassic Park - there was never much doubt that Universal wanted another dino-stuffed movie from Steven Spielberg's Michael Crichton-inspired film franchise. The problem was working out exactly how to do this, after the sequels had failed to live up to the financial success and audience adoration of the first film.
Eventually, we got the box office-smashing Jurassic World and Chris Pratt in a natty waistcoat. But before that, tonnes of ideas came and went as Universal attempted to nail down the best way to resurrect the series without the help of ancient mosquituoes...

We’ve seen a few pieces of concept art for the scrapped Jurassic Park 4 in the past, but now even more has found its way online thanks to Prometheus concept artist Carlos Huante. These depict various human/dinosaur hybrids which would have been the focus of what would have no doubt been a terrible movie, but […]

Artist Carlos Huante recently shared concept art from a much earlier take on Jurassic Park 4...
If you Frankensteined the DNA of the Hulk, Wolfman and a velociraptor in a petri dish, you’d get Raptorman. He was due to appear in a Jurassic Park film, but it ultimately wasn't meant to be.
Raptorman was part of a screenplay envisioned by John Sayles and William Monahan when they were penning an earlier take on Jurassic Park 4, featuring genetically enhanced soldier-o-saurus reptiles created by a corporation to be mercenaries that are supposed to wrangle the rogue dinos trampling North America.
The military dinos died out after studio execs decided this one big leap for dinosaur-kind was just too bizarre. It was this script that Jurassic World outlived to become the official fourth movie in the Jurassic Park franchise. The closest that ever got to the Sayles-Monahan concept...

Alec Gillis of Amalgmated Dynamics, Inc. is sharing some pretty incredible stuff over at his Instagram account. Today, he posted some concept art by Carlos Huante for the 1994 film Wolf. Adi pitched for the job, which ultimately went to Rick Baker, and their "wolf" is definitely different than the final design. I'm not certain if this is what Adi had in mind for Nicholson's transformations throughout the film or if this represented the "final change" which came at the end of the story.

Over the years we've heard a lot about the possibility of a fourth Jurassic Park movie. Several writers have come and gone trying to come up with a decent story and script, but nothing has ever stuck. There's one currently in development right now, which is being pushed forward, and one day we will see a fourth Jurassic Park film happen.
Back in 2005 screenwriters William Monahan (The Departed) and John Sayles (Spiderwick Chronicles) teamed up to collaborate on a story for Jurassic Park 4 that involved dinosaur and DNA testing gone bad. The tests resulted in these crazy looking human-dino hybrids that would break free and and wreak havoc. The best part of these hybrids were that they were intelligent enough to shoot weapons and solve complicated problems.
The movie was never put into development, probably because of its ridiculousness. But before it was completely shut down Ilm designer Carlos Huante...

While various different versions of a fourth "Jurassic Park" have been in development over the past decade, none has been more infamous or contentious as the John Sayles-penned take with gun-carrying dinosaurs. That version involved genetically created 'mercenary dinosaurs' made from blending dinosaur, human and dog DNA.
Now some concept art, created for that version by artist Carlos Huante and sculpted into 3D by Andrew Cawrse, has snuck online via JurassicParkIV.org. Turns out as soon as the heads at Amblin Entertainment saw the artwork, they shut down the project almost instantly.

After Joe Johnston's Jurassic Park III in 2001, there was meant to be, at some point, a Jurassic Park IV. Scripts were offered to Spielberg and then rejected numerous times, with William Monahan and John Sayles' effort working on the idea of dinosaurs-on-the-mainland combined with human/dinosaur hybrid soldiers that could use guns and carry out simple tasks. Now artwork has surfaced online that reportedly originates with Ilm's Andrew Cawrse and concept artist Carlos Huante, revealing just how far down the pipeline this pretty outrageous idea went. And before you look at them, know this: they're pretty damn weird. You have been warned...As for the current situation with the far-more-likely-to-happen version of Jurassic Park IV (as penned by Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes writing team Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver), that's all still pencilled in for a 2014 release, though it looks like it might end up...

The "Jurassic Park" series has always been a cash cow, and for that reason, it seems like there has always been an ongoing attempt to bring it back to the screen for a fourth iteration. Scripts for a new entry have come and gone without ever seeing the light of day outside some production meetings, but one got further along than we ever knew.
In 2005, "The Departed" writer William Monahan and John Sayles collaborated on a script for "Jurassic Park 4" that involved DNA experiments gone awry. These tests resulted in monstrous human-dino hybrids that—well, what else?—break free and cause chaos. But these hybrids didn't get the intellect of the dinosaurs. They were intelligent enough to fire guns and problem-solve.
The idea didn't make it too far, but it did generate some concept art from Ilm designer Carlos Huante. The mock-ups are perhaps the most interesting aspect of this...

These concept designs from artist Carlos Huante are from the John Sayles scripted version of Jurassic Park IV that we will never see. That story featured these genetically engineered human-dinosaur-dog hybrids (di-hu-ogs) that were also super smart gun-toting mercenaries. Now don't get me wrong, I actually think some of the designs are pretty cool, and the idea sounds like it could make for a good movie, but a Jurassic Park movie? Nobody seems too sure how far into production the movie actually got, but according to Huante as soon as the Amblin Entertainment brass saw these designs, they shut down the project almost immediately.. As I said, there is currently another Jurassic Park IV script by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver out there (probably not featuring gun-toting T-Rexs) but no solid info on when or if it will go into production.

Steven Spielberg has been talking about developing a fourth "Jurassic Park" installment ever since the third film hit theaters. But despite the many scripts that were written, all of them have been rejected. Including the one that had dinosaurs carrying guns. That script, by John Sayles (The Spiderwick Chronicles), got far into development, with Carlos Huante hired to create pieces of concept art for Spielberg. Hasbro was even brought on to create toys from all the new characters that were supposed to show up in the movie. But as soon as executives got a look at the concept art, they immediately ripped up the script and shut down production. The story would have revolved around Nick Harris, who was hired to train mercenary dinosaurs that were created using a mix of DNA from dinosaurs, humans and dogs. Check out the art below. While Jurassic Park 4 is gearing up for production, years ago there was a script written by John Sayles for a proposed fourth film which ultimately got canned. The script featured genetically engineered human-dinosaur hybrids that were super smart gun-toting mercenaries. Wanna see 'em?
The images below were brought to light by Badass Digest via Reddit. Leaked onto the wonderful interwebs is a series of concept art created by artist Carlos Huant, along with a couple of Ilm sculpts. To say this concept was a bit out of the box is an understatement. Check it out for yourself, and sound off in our comments section below.
Universal has set Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) to write the script for the fourth Jurassic Park film, which will be produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy. Spielberg won’t direct.
Look for more on this one (hopefully) soon!

Jurassic Park 4 is going to be a reality. And the story of its development is going to be worthy of a book some day.
Currently, a new script is being written, but there was a time when a script by John Sayles was being kicked around. His vision took things into drastic new territory involving dinosaurs equipped with weapons and human-dino hybrids.
Needless to say, this script was dismissed after rightfully being trashed on Ain't It Cool News. Badass Digest culled - from Reddit - a slew of concept art that is based on Sayles' Jurassic Park 4. The fact that the script got so far in development as to having concept art commissioned hurts my soul a little bit. Not that that art - by Carlos Huante - is terrible, it's that the idea is just ridiculous within the confines of the Jurassic Park universe. I've pulled some of my favorite pieces of art within.

Radical Entertainment's Design Director Matt Armstrong began his career in the video game industry over 13 years ago working on the seminal classic Final Fantasy VII as a Qa Tester. A few short weeks of this was enough to convince Matt that his future lay more in the creative arts, and he soon found himself working as a 3D modeler, texture artist and animator before eventually finding himself drawn into the world of game design. Since then, Matt has worked in senior design positions at Blitz Games, Rockstar Games and Radical Entertainment, culminating in his current role as Design Director for Prototype 2.
Fun Fact: I have been told that Matt has a serious and disturbing obsession with the Mass Effect franchise and into double figures for the combined number of times he has completed them. Matt is also bravely weaning himself away from this addiction by sticking to a strict, doctor-prescribed regimen of fine Canadian beer.

[1] Details on Ridley Scott's Prometheus have remained shrouded in secrecy from the very beginning, and not much has changed now that shooting is actually underway. A couple of new tidbits today don't reveal a whole lot more, but in the absence of any solid details about the film, seem worth noting nonetheless. After all, what kind of jerks would we be if we didn't share what little information we had? According to his resume [2], recently posted on the Worldwide Production Agency website, designer Neville Page is working on concept art and costumes for Prometheus. Page's previous work includes creature designs for Avatar, Cloverfield, and Star Trek, as well as costume design on Tron: Legacy, Green Lantern, and the upcoming Spider-Man. As other [3] folks [4] have pointed out, Page's Cloverfield monster bears a resemblance to the Space Jockey from Alien, which an earlier rumor [5] suggested would be appearing in Prometheus. What...
