They’re the toughest tickets to get right now on Broadway. And on Tuesday morning, seats to Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Dear Evan Hansen and Hello Dolly! just got that much harder — as all three shows scored top nominations in their respective categories for the 2017 Tony Awards.
Jane Krakowski and Hamilton alum Christopher Jackson announced the candidates Tuesday morning, live from the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

When Lin-Manuel Miranda made his entrance during the opening number of his history-making musical Hamilton on Saturday night, he received a one-minute standing ovation, with applause so loud it nearly brought the house down. This wasn't just any performance for the 36-year-old actor, who also penned the show's music, lyrics and book. It was his last in the title role of Alexander Hamilton. Miranda left the production - as did original cast members Leslie Odom, Jr., Phillipa Soo and Ariana DeBose - after being with the musical since its off-Broadway run at New York's Public Theater last winter. Hamilton, you simply must meet Elmo. Elmo! Sesame Street’s resident three-and-a-half-year-old furry red monster delved into American history yet again just in time for Presidents Day. (In the past, he’s helped kids learn about the Gettysburg Address and even became the first monster president.) This time, he visited the Richard Rodgers Theatre to sing with Christopher Jackson (a.k.a. George Washington) for Sunday’s digital Ham4Ham show (the treat given to fans entering the musical’s $10 ticket lottery that started outside the theater but has switched to the much warmer online form during the cold New York winter). Elmo donned his bicorne hat for the occasion. Check out his adorable responses to “The Story of Tonight” from hit Broadway show Hamilton in the video below: Apple juice. Duh. We bet Elmo would get along well with that little Hit-Girl at Comic-Con who didn’t want Batman and Superman to fight.

Two. Two-two two thousand. Two-two two thousand — 2016. A cast of wildly talented singers/rappers/actors, seemingly born to play the Founding Fathers and Mothers, in an unlikely Broadway hip-hop hit about the man who created the national bank. Lin-Manuel Miranda might be the genius composer, lyricist, and star of Hamilton, but the reason the show feels like one showstopper after the next is thanks to Leslie Odom Jr.'s layered portrayal of Aaron Burr, Renée Elise Goldsberry's acrobatic take on Angelica Schuyler, Christopher Jackson's powerful George Washington, and many more instant-classic performances. To find out what it's like to be part of a once-in-a-generation hit, Vulture sat down with Odom Jr., Goldsberry, and Jackson, as well as the equally brilliant two-part actors Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds), as they ate dinner between shows at the classic Broadway staple Sardi's.
