Exclusive: HBO is shutting down its casting department, with its staff, led by 14-year HBO veteran, Svp Carrie Frazier, and VP Amy Jo Berman, exiting. HBO uses outside casting directors on all of its projects, with the in-house casting executives playing a supplemental role, mostly on the longform side. With the pay cable network’s movie and miniseries output decreasing over the past few years, HBO brass have made a decision to close that department. The network may revisit their casting needs in the future. HBO’s decision is the latest in a growing cost-cutting trend over the past several years on both the TV and feature side that involves the downsizing/eliminating in-house casting departments or the phasing out of seasoned senior staff casting executives. Rick Jacobs left Lifetime 2 years ago as part of the company-wide layoffs. NBC’s Marc Hirschfeld was let go from NBC in the 2008 executive shakeup.

Michael Bay, the man who gave us Tranformers 2’s jive-talking robots, will be co-producing a big-screen adaptation of the Idw comic Zombies vs. Robots with his production company/horror-remake machine Platinum Dunes—and he’s starting, at least, with a script by a solid genre talent.
Deadline reports that The Burrowers’ J.T. Petty wrote a spec screenplay titled Inherit The Earth based on the Ashley Wood/Chris Ryall comic. The film will be a co-production between Platinum Dunes, Circle of Confusion and Idw for Sony Pictures, and produced by Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Dave Alpert and Rick Jacobs. The movie focuses on the last survivor on Earth, a young girl who is protected by a group of robots from a pack of zombies that are intelligent and evolved.

Zombies may not be making rapid gains on the overwhelming popularity of vampires these days, but the geek nation has certainly embraced a rising trend in stories about the shambling brain-munchers. Now Michael Bay is boarding that train, entering into a co-production deal with Idw Publishing to develop a film adaptation of the publisher's "Zombies Vs. Robots" comic book series.
The series is set in a world devastated by the zombie apocalypse. The last surviving human is an infant, one who is fortunately protected by an army of robots.
So really, what you're looking at is the setup for an epic confrontation between an entire planet's worth of zombies and a bunch of cold, emotionless robots. Does anyone really win here? We certainly do, since we'll get to watch the two factions clash from the safety of a movie theater.

Most people fight to wake up from their nightmares, but for the Rick Remender ("Fear Agent") and Kieron Dwyer ("XXXombies") character Mary Specter, entering the dreams of others to help resolve sleep issues is all in a night's work.
