Wales’ great start helped them hold off a courageous Italian fightback in the opening game of the Six Nations in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium today.
First-half tries from backs Alex Cuthbert and Scott Williams, combined with some very neat kicking from full-back Leigh Halfpenny had the reigning champions 17-3 ahead at the break, as they commenced their quest for a three-in-a-row in the Northern Hemisphere’s premier annual rugby competition.
However, Italy fought back in the second half with an early try from debutant and Rbs Six Nations Man of the Match Michele Campagnaro.
Walses looked comfortable at 60 minutes, and Gatland made a raft of changes, presumably resting players before next week’s crucial clash with Ireland in Dublin.
However, Campagnaro pulled of a fantastic interception from a Halfpenny pass to nab a breakaway try for Italy that saw the scoreline at 20-...

Film, theatre and festivals flourished during the UK recession with Britons spending record amounts on tickets and not baulking at high-priced events
No one told the entertainment industry about the recession. Festivals sold out, theatre takings hit a new record, and blockbuster films filled cinemas
Millions of us seem more willing than ever to shell out sizeable sums to see our favourite bands, go to a show or watch the latest 3D blockbuster movie.
The boom in live music in recent years is well-documented, with acts as diverse as AC/DC and Lily Allen able to fill huge arenas – often with ticket prices to match. It was reported that in 2009, London's 02 Arena was the world's most popular music venue for the second year running, selling more than 2m concert tickets.
Music festivals are also soaking up spare cash. Tickets for Glastonbury (23-27 June), were quick to sell out, despite costing £185 each.
