Founded in 2012, Paris-based WTFilms, run by Gregory Chambet and Dimitri Stephanides, has built a strong reputation as a sales agent for break-out genre pics and has recently diversified into production, to access hit projects. As competition ramps up for more ambitious projects with strong theatrical potential, Chambet decided to move to Los Angeles in mid-2023, while Stephanides remains based in Paris.
“At WTFilms, we aim to continue to work on both sides of the Atlantic,” explains Chambet. “In the current market it’s important to invest in projects by talented directors, with innovative concepts, budgeted above $5 million. It makes sense for me to be based here because we work a lot with partners here and L.A. is a key talent hub. We’re on the lookout for talent from all around the world. There are really exciting genre directors popping up everywhere – in North America and also in Latin America and Asia.

A French thriller gets the remake treatment, starring Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan. Here's our review of the rather silly Sleepless...
Constructing a decent thriller's like building a house of cards: get it right, and you have something that stands by itself. Make a mistake, and the whole thing collapses in a heap. Sleepless, a remake of a French thriller, Sleepless Night, in turn adapted from a novel by Frederic Jardin, is one of those frustrating genre films that, after half-an-hour or so of decent construction, starts to wobble before your very eyes.
The set-up is this: Jamie Foxx plays a Las Vegas cop, Vincent Downs, who's robbed a huge stash of cocaine as part of an undercover investigation into his own precinct. Determined to get their drugs back, some ruthless gangsters stab Vincent in the gut and kidnap his son as leverage. Meanwhile, Internal Affairs officer Jennifer Bryant (Michelle Monaghan...

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In dubious honor of “Sleepless,” a new Jamie Foxx vehicle that’s been adapted from Frederic Jardin’s “Sleepless Night,” what is the best American remake of a foreign-language film?
Joshua Rothkopf (@joshrothkopf), Time Out New York
Long before I knew and appreciated Jean Renoir, I was in love with “Down and Out in Beverly Hills,” a 1986 comedy based on “Boudu Saved from Drowning” that peppered the flow with some truly eye-opening ideas for Hollywood: class warfare, unequal police treatment, a neurotic dog with its own therapist. The movie holds up beautifully — it’s one of Nick Nolte’s quietest performances, and one...

If Sleepless doesn’t seem like it is doing anything new it’s, well, not. A remake of Frederic Jardin’s 2011 thriller Nuit blanche (Sleepless Night) rebooted as a low-rent Luc Besson-style affair with half the wit, Sleepless isn’t an unbearable experience. It’s just not a terribly original film, one that seems to suffer a fate like many Hollywood-ized imports taken on by foreign directors: they bring all the style, but leave behind the substance and wit. As often happens, something is lost in translation, even if the absurd hand-to-hand combat and action “thrills” in a contained setting remain intact.
Swedish director Baran bo Odar helms from a script by Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton) that, truth be told, could have been adapted into a tense little thriller in the right hands. One sequence involving a stabbing had me nostalgic for Park Chan-wook and what he might have brought to the table.

The listless, shoddy sort of remake where it feels like all of the characters have already seen the movie they’re in, “Sleepless” reduces one of the best action films of the 21st century into one of the most benign. Released in 2011, Frederic Jardin’s severely under-seen “Sleepless Night” is a French-language brawler with universal appeal — bruising, relentless, and blissfully frenetic, it remains a masterclass in how to layer cinematic mayhem so that every new punch lands where the last one left off.
Needless to say, a lot has been lost in translation. Directed by Baran bo Odar (“The Silence”) and designed to swindle money from starry-eyed January theatergoers who’ve been shut out of “Hidden Figures” or “La La Land” but might as well see something because they’ve already trekked to the multiplex and paid the babysitter for the night, this lifeless photocopy proves that American exceptionalism is...

Sometimes, Americanized remakes can work — despite my own hesitances against them — and I am hoping that is the case for Sleepless, an adaptation/remake of the intense and slick 2010 French thriller Nuit Blance (Sleepless Night). The first trailer has arrived for Baran bo Odar‘s take on the material, starring Jamie Foxx as a cop with deep ties to the criminal underworld who must probe a seedy nightclub to find his kidnapped son. Odar has three features under his belt before this one, and his growing skill in tandem with the solid cast should hopefully offering a thrilling entry into the single-day-film canon, along with doing Frédéric Jardin’s source material justice.

A cop’s secret life is threatened to be exposed when he and his partner are seen stealing drugs from a powerful drug dealer. When his son is kidnapped and the drug dealer demands the return of what was stolen, the cop must figure out how to get the drugs into the right hands, protect his son and keep his secret from the other police officers who are on his tail. It looks as if it is going to be a long, sleepless night.
Sleepless Night shows us that French people can be badass too. Others have compared this film to Die Hard, which is understandable as there are many similarities.

The action thriller is EuropaCorp and Relativity Media’s English-language remake of the 2004 French-made action / thriller District B13. In Brick Mansions, Paul Walker incarnates an undercover cop out to defuse a bomb in possession of drug warlord RZA. Catalina Denis will play David Belle’s romantic interest. Luc Besson, who specializes in run-of-the-mill, Hollywood-style French-made action thrillers, is one of the film’s producers. Sleepless Night (Nuit Blanche)
Directed by Frédéric Jardin
Written by Frédéric Jardin and Nicolas Saada and Olivier Douyère
France, 2011
Sometimes, a movie’s simplicity makes it effective. And whatever else can be said of Sleepless Night, or Nuit Blanche in its native France, it’s incredibly effective. Centered on an almost laughably basic concept—a French cop has to retrieve his son from a seemingly endless and seedy nightclub by returning some pilfered cocaine—this taut, relentless thriller from co-writer and director Frédéric Jardin is a must for any fan of the action genre. And if you get antsy at reading subtitles, forget it: Sleepless Night is breathless entertainment.
Tomer Sisley stars as Vincent, a crooked cop whose decision to, along with his partner, Manuel, steal ten kilos of cocaine from dealers working for a fearsome mobster opens the film. The theft goes awry, though: one of the dealers gets...

There's a reason we picked the French thriller "Sleepless Night" as one of the 10 best movies to play at this year's Tribeca Film Festival: It puts its American counterparts to shame.
When's the last time you saw a truly great American action film that didn't feature a single superhero, or one that wasn't animated (we're looking at you "Kung Fu Panda")? Not so easy to come up with one, right?
"The Raid: Redemption" was the last action movie to soar to great heights, and that came to us courtesy of Indonesia. Now we have the French to thank for shaking up the genre with one of the most breathless thrillers to come along in ages, the aptly titled "Sleepless Night."
Directed by the kinetically gifted Frédéric Jardin, "Sleepless Night" centers on a seemingly corrupt cop Vincent (Tomer Sisley), whose attempt to steal a bag of coke pisses of the resident kingpin.

The 2012 Tribeca Film Festival opened and closed with two glossy, star-studded premieres, as the raunchy rom-com "The Five-Year Engagement" and the surefire summer blockbuster "The Avengers" bookended the event.
But it was the far more modestly budgeted films in between that made the 11th annual Tribeca fest a success, with audiences and critics alike discovering gems you probably won't see plastered on the side of a bus anytime soon.
Our 10 favorites ranged from music documentaries ("Searching for Sugar Man") to quote-unquote mumblecore ("Your Sister's Sister"), but they share one common thread, at least in our eyes: They deserve a much wider audience. Maybe even on bus ads. – By Jason Guerrasio, Kevin Polowy, Nigel Smith and Brooke Tarnoff

How about a feature film involving a cop running frantically through a packed nightclub, music booming, and vicious fights and scuffles breaking out all over the place? Oh, and an in-motion car battle, too. Sounds like a blast right? Of course, but it also sounds like quite the challenge for director Frédéric Jardin. Sleepless Night tells the story of Vincent (Tomer Sisley), a cop taking part in a drug heist that goes horribly wrong. Vincent gets the coke, but in the process, the enemy learns his identity. Shortly after, Vincent finds out his son has been kidnapped and the only way to get him back is to head over to Marciano.s (Serge Riaboukine) nightclub and return the drugs. Trouble is, a pair of Internal Affairs officers is onto him and when they spot Vincent in the nightclub, they complicate what could have been an easy handoff. It. ...

More packages and lists: Smithsonian Magazine's Daniel Eagan ("What to See"), indieWIRE ("12 New Films We're Excited For"), Filmmaker's Scott Macaulay ("25 Films I'm Looking Forward To"), Movies.com ("20 Most Anticipated Movies"), Time's Lily Rothman ("Top 15 Chatter-Worthy Films"), Time Out New York and Twitch ("Top 15 Picks").

Title: Sleepless Night Director: Frédéric Jardin Cast: Tomer Sisley, Serge Riaboukine and Julien Boisselier It seems like this year, simple high concept action films seem to be the trend. There’s, of course, “The Raid: Redemption,” a film that is a self contained, high octane, martial arts showcase; and for the Tribeca Film Festival we have “Sleepless Night.” A film that follows suit with its single location nature and high stakes action aesthetic, only with “Sleepless Night” we have a deeper narrative and poignant character moments. “Sleepless Night” follows Vincent (Tomer Sisley), a crooked cop involved in a drug heist gone wrong. This year’s Tribeca Film Festival has a slate of new works from buzzed about filmmakers, compelling documentaries and films packed with some of critics’ favorite stars. But one feature that’s already been absolutely slathered in praise is an action film out of France with no stars known stateside from a director (Frédéric Jardin) formerly unknown. And rightly so. Daring, dynamic, and inspired Sleepless Night elevates the action genre to mind-bending and intoxicating territory with a fast-paced plot that’s peopled with intriguing characters, clever reversals, and above all relentless action.
The narrative follows Vincent (Tomer Sisley) a cop with a bad temper and a dangerous tendency to mingle with merciless drug dealers. Once he crosses the wrong crook, his teenaged son is abducted, which forces Vincent to lie to his colleagues, cheat his partner, steal a duffel bag filled with cocaine, and weave his way through the labyrinthine...

Early this week, Brad Bird confirmed, via an interview with Crave, what many had long assumed: despite "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" being the most successful entry in the franchise to date, the Pixar veteran will not be returning for another crack at the Tom Cruise-led spy series, saying that, "I think that one of the things that’s fun about the series is that they always pull in a different director and try to get a different kind of take on the premise."
With Paramount keen to get the balling rolling on the next entry after the $700 million success of 'Ghost Protocol' -- and hoping to avoid the five year gap between the last couple of movies -- it likely won't be long before the search for a helmer begins in earnest. Of course, Paramount may not have much say in the hiring of the director: Cruise has always led this series,...

It's Year 11 for the Tribeca Film Festival, and it looks like the fest created by Robert De Niro is hitting its stride.
The 11-day event, which takes place April 18-29, has always been known for its flashy red- carpet premieres (this year's fest is bookended with the comedy "The Five-Year Engagement" and Marvel's latest “The Avengers”) and fun family fare (free Drive In screenings of "Jaws" and "The Goonies"). Tribeca is also branching out into the online world: For its second year, the festival will screen a handful of titles from this year's Tribeca Online Film Festival as well as stream some of its panels.
But if you like to watch your movies the old-fashioned way (in the theater), here are 15 titles from this year's fest that we think you should check out.

This year's Tribeca Film Festival (site) opens on Wednesday with the world premiere of The Five-Year Engagement, which, like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, is directed by Nicholas Stoller, produced by Judd Apatow and stars Jason Segel, and closes on April 28 with Joss Whedon's The Avengers. In the New York Times, Stephen Holden notes that the new programming team (Frédéric Boyer, former artistic director of the Directors' Fortnight, Sundance vet Geoffrey Gilmore and Genna Terranova) have slimmed the lineup down to 90 features from 150 just two years ago: "As a result Tribeca is no longer a catchall basin for middling stray films seeking a showcase." If relentless action is your thing, then you'll no doubt surrender to "Sleepless Night," Frédéric Jardin's French thriller playing at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival after hitting VOD on April 17. The film centers on seemingly corrupt cop Vincent (Tomer Sisley) whose attempt to steal a bag of coke leads to the kidnapping of his teenage son. This all occurs within the first few minutes; the rest of the film is one long extended action sequence that takes place in a single crazy night. Reviewing the film at Fantastic Fest last year, Indiewire's Eric Kohn said it was a "brilliant, frenetic action vehicle" with a "near-perfect realization of action dynamics," while noting that the planned studio remake probably won't live up to quality of the original. Below, Jardin shares an exclusive scene from his film, ahead of its VOD launch and theatrical release on May 11. _________________________________________ ...

Tribeca Film has debuted the official Us trailer in high def via Apple for the French action-thriller Sleepless Night, which was one of my favorites from Tiff last year. As is customary of most festivals these days, we’ve been informed (via Deadline) that four Tribeca titles will see a spring VOD release through Tribeca Film. In this grouping, we can look forward to Death of a Superhero (which we loved at Tiff), The Giant Mechanical Man, Sleepless Night (my most anticipated of the lot), and Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story — all of which festival director Geoff Gilmore feels “embody the exceptional artistry and personal resonance that filmmaking at its finest can provide.” The lattermost of those will begin its VOD run on April 26th, while the other three can be expected on various platforms beginning April 17th.
You can read a synopsis of these four films below:

Hot on the heels of its Tribeca announcement, CinemaBlend has nabbed the first American poster for Frédéric Jardin‘s reportedly thrilling actioner Sleepless Night. The simple, kinetic design on display won’t tell you a single thing about the film’s plot, or what makes it so interesting — i.e., the predominant use of one location for most of its runtime — but I’m happy to trade that in favor of something amusingly brutal. (This could almost be an alternative poster for Step Brothers, really.) Fitting for a movie that breaks the mold, isn’t it?
See it below:
Then we have the poster for another festival favorite: The Loved Ones. Writer-director Sean Byrne‘s horror film has been getting very positive notices throughout its international showings, but this one’s still had a long road to hitting the U.S. Having premiered all the way back at 2009′s Tiff...
