It certainly helps that “For Heaven’s Sake” is led by a pair of people rather than a single amateur detective. Mike Mildon and Jackson Rowe share the duty as the guides of an extended look into a longstanding family mystery, and they help to deflate some of the trickier tendencies that sometimes overtake true crime series like this Paramount+ entry in the genre.
Almost from the outset, the two make it clear that their background is in comedy more than forensics. But that doesn’t stop “For Heaven’s Sake” from being as thorough as it can in looking for the truth behind the 1934 disappearance of Howard Heaven, Mike’s great-great-uncle. Over a period of at least a year, the two amateur sleuths make base camp in Mike’s hometown of Minden, Ontario, combing through anything they find and soliciting as much help from the residents of Haliburton County.

For some people "holiday" may suggest Christmas, but nobody puts Thanksgiving in the corner. Once again, Dreamworks is undone by trailers that managed not to convey the actual experience of the film they're selling. They have this weird habit of making their films look worse than they actually are, almost like they're trying to tank them. By now, I shouldn't be surprised when they make something that's good, but they keep cutting these trailers that promise crap. "Home," based on the book "The True Meaning Of Smekday" by Adam Rex, serves as an interesting example of someone doing the right version of something that someone else has bungled. In this case, "Home" is an example of someone setting out to create a character like Jar Jar Binks… and pulling it off. Because no matter what you think of "The Phantom Menace," there's a specific character type that they're doing, The Fool, the bumbler who somehow becomes a hero by virtue of being decent but stupid.

Now that even Pixar are making more sequels than original films, it's encouraging to see DreamWorks attempt to launch a fresh franchise story, but is it good enough to rival the likes of Despicable Me and Toy Story?
Based on Adam Rex's 2007 children's book The True Meaning of Smekday, Home follows an alien race called the Boov who, despite being rather incompetent, manage to take over Earth in order to hide from their enemy.
To do this, the Boov move the entire human race in big pockets of desert space, thinking they are doing us a favour in the process. On paper, if this plot was taken by someone like Neil Blomkamp or James Cameron, it could have been transformed into a rather terrifying sci-fi horror film...

DreamWorks Animation now only has one release in 2015, and this is it. So how does Home fare? Here's our review...
I'm not the first to have noticed that your chances of getting a project through the DreamWorks Animation pipeline seem greatly enhanced if you're telling a story about a nerdy outsider, or someone who struggles to fit in. In recent times along, Mr Peabody & Sherman, Turbo and The Croods have all traded on this to some degree. Home very much does as well.
In this case, the outside is Oh (voiced well by Jim Parsons), a misfit who - for reasons I never really bought - isn't that well liked by his people, the Boov. The Boov are led by Captain Smekday (and the film in turn is based on the book The True Meaning Of Smekday, by Adam Rex). Said Captain leads the Boov in their quest to run...

The latest 3D computer-animated film for kids from embattled DreamWorks Animation isn’t likely to rake in “Shrek”-sized dollars, or to make a critical splash like “How to Train Your Dragon.” At the same time, “Home” with its gentle and genial sense of both humor and action, will divert young children remarkably well, from the sci-fi slapstick to the deftly-handled deeper emotions. Perhaps the greatest portion of the credit for “Home” should go to director Tim Johnson (“Antz,” “Over the Hedge”), who’s created an animated film with clarity and comedy to support the morals and the message. 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation have unveiled the new trailer for their highly anticipated film, Home. Let this intergalactic 3D animation take you out of this world when it hits the big screen on March 27, 2015.
When Earth is taken over by the overly-confident Boov, an alien race in search of a new place to call home, all humans are promptly relocated, while all Boov get busy reorganizing the planet. But when one resourceful girl, Tip, (Rihanna, who also contributes a song) manages to avoid capture, she finds herself the accidental accomplice of a banished Boov named Oh (Jim Parsons). The two fugitives realize there’s a lot more at stake than intergalactic relations as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime.
The film also stars Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez.
Directed by Tim Johnson, the screenplay is based upon the novel The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex.

Originally slated for release this week, DreamWorks Animation opted to send their sci-fi adventure Home to theaters next spring. And since Penguins of Madagascar gets the prime holiday release slot this weekend, that means we get a new trailer for the film featuring the voice of Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") as the unfortunately nicknamed Oh, a clumsy alien in hiding on Earth. Speaking in a dialect that seems lifted from cat memes (you'll see what I mean), this guy seems to be a lovable walking accident, but there are more of his race (including Steve Martin as their leader) coming to our planet, looking for a new home. Watch! Here's the new trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Home, originally from Yahoo: Watch the original animated short film over here along with the first theatrical trailer right here. Home is directed by Tim Johnson (Shrek, Over the Hedge) and written...

Benedict Cumberbatch earned a rapturous reception from the adoring masses in Hall H during his maiden Comic-Con appearance at the DreamWorks Animation panel on Thursday (24) and hinted at future visits.
When asked by an audience member towards the end of the panel – the first by a Hollywood studio at this year’s show – if he would return as Sherlock next year, the British actor said “Possibly.”
To the business at hand. Cumberbatch was in San Diego to talk up his first ever voice role in an animation. He plays Classified, a secret agent wolf who aids the eponymous Penguins Of Madagascar, due out in November.
“I like the idea of unpacking a spy and trying to make him more human, if that makes sense with a wolf,” he said.
Cumberbatch said he jumped at the chance to work with John Malkovich, another Comic-Con debutant in attendance who voices the part of the villainous Dave the octopus.

About seven years ago, director Tim Johnson was looking for a good book to read his two sons, aged 5 and 7 at the time. After a recommendation from The New York Times, he stumbled upon Adam Rex’s The True Meaning of Smekday and couldn’t put it down—literally. “The first night I read them two chapters, but I think I ended up reading the whole thing alone in one night,” Johnson tells EW. Now Johnson has compiled an all-star voice cast, including Jim Parsons, Rihanna and Steve Martin to adapt the quirky book into Home, what he calls a...

The Boov may not be able to shoot lasers from their eyeballs, but they can totally make your car hover. That may be the single most important takeaway message we got from the new trailer for DreamWorks upcoming movie, "Home." If you are looking for more details, we can tell you that the animated feature is directed by Tim Johnson ("Over the Hedge") and is all about what happens when an alien race, the aforementioned Boov, decide to use the Earth as their home and relocate the pesky humans. A comedy, "Home" follows the misadventures of one particular member of the Boov alien race, Oh (Jim Parsons), and a human girl, Tip (Rihanna). We found the trailer truly amusing and as we see more of the movie, which isn't due out until next March, it will be interesting to see if they're able to generate that same level of humor throughout.

In recent years, DreamWorks has been upping their output significantly, and though the studio has had some icy patches, the future is looking very, very good. Home, the studio’s 3D animated buddy comedy, kicks off a trio of movies for next year, with the hugely anticipated Kung Fu Panda 3 closing the year over the Christmas weekend.
2015 is pretty much guaranteed to be an awesome year for animation lovers everywhere.
The studio is continuing the How to Train Your Dragon franchise this year with the second instalment in the upcoming trilogy, with talk of expanding it into a quadrilogy, and they’ve used the family-friendly sequel to introduce Home to the masses.
When the galaxy’s most annoyingly optimistic alien finds himself on the run from his own alien race, he’s forced to team up with a fiercely stubborn teenage girl. Together they become the most unlikely fugitives ever to save the planet.

Though 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation may have decided to swap release dates for their original alien adventure Home and their action comedy The Penguins of Madagascar, that doesn't mean they're not going to plug the hell out of both films with the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2 nearly upon us. The trailer for the latter Madagascar spin-off just debuted yesterday, and now we get full trailer for Home as well. We finally get to see our main human character Tip (Rihanna) and her relationship with outcast alien Oh (Jim Parsons). There's some really cool animation and amusing elements at work here with the aliens themselves and this just may turn out to be another hit for DreamWorks Animation. Watch! Here's the full trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Home, originally from Apple: And check out the short featuring Steve Martin's character from earlier this year right here.

DreamWorks Animation studios plans to add a little, shall we say, "color" to its growing, rather *vanilla* portfolio of movies, with its next project, titled Home, a 3D computer-animated feature film set in the future, which is based on Adam Rex's children's book The True Meaning of Smekday, and stars Rihanna (providing the voice for the starring character - an enterprising girl named Tip), Jennifer Lopez, Jim Parsons, and Steve Martin. DreamWorks Animation has released their fun sci-fi comedy short Almost Home online for everyone to see. You can see the short on the big screen as well. It's attached to the studio's feature film Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which was actually a really fun kids flick.
Almost Home is an adaptation of the children's book by Adam Rex, and the story follows an alien race on a search for a planet to hide from a mortal enemy. The leader of the alien race is actually voiced by Steve Martin. The movie was directed by Tim Johnson (Shrek, Over the Hedge) and it was written by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart, Epic). Here is the synopsis:
An overly optimistic, yet inept, alien race named Boov, led by Captain Smek (Martin), invades Earth to hide from their mortal enemy and make it a new home. Convinced they are doing a favor,...

Now Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez are also aboard, and the film has been retitled to the less quirky (and a little more bland) Home. The buddy comedy, adapted by Tom J. When they arrive on Earth, they decide they like the place and begin to relocate humanity, somehow convinced that we’ll be eternally grateful.
