“Something that we were all really drawn to is the ornamentation of the Victorian era,” explains “Manhunt” production designer Chloe Arbiture about taking a bolder approach to designing over 200 sets for what a well-known period in history: the aftermath of the assassination of the 16th U.S. President. “We wanted modern audiences to relate to it and to feel like there was a stake in it,” she explains about her team’s focus on ornamentation, decoration and detail. “When we look through; I mean even I’m guilty of it, but when I look through black and white photographs, I don’t really feel like this big human connection to things. But we all talked about how what makes the story human is color, is richness, is detail, and that’s something that really drove us through the entire creative process from the beginning to the end.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Though most of its season played out like a crime thriller, “Manhunt” on Apple TV+ ended with a one-episode courtroom drama that brought the story of the Lincoln assassination to a close. As with any adaptation of real history, “Manhunt” couldn’t include everything about the hunt for John Wilkes Booth, especially since reality is often stranger than any scripted story. There’s a lot that the “Manhunt” finale got right, some that was made up, and an entire universe of material that didn’t make it to the screen, so let’s take a look at how the Lincoln conspiracy really ended.
We’ll begin with a few final questions about John Wilkes Booth, whose surprise death in the penultimate episode of “Manhunt” had its antagonist exiting stage left before the final scene:
What were John Wilkes Booth’s last days really like?

Spoiler Alert: This article contains major spoilers for the finale of “Manhunt,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
The seven-episode historical miniseries “Manhunt” has come to a dramatic close. Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) brought several of John Wilkes Booth’s conspirators to trial over Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, resulting in numerous hangings. Legally, he wasn’t able to thread the needle to prove a grand conspiracy, leaving him somewhat unsatisfied in his efforts to find justice for Lincoln. Yet Stanton has his next fight almost immediately after the verdict, as incoming President Andrew Johnson aims to have him removed from his position — leading the secretary of war to barricade himself in his office in protest.
Reflecting on the series — and especially the trial that takes up the majority of the final episode — Menzies speaks to how his animated facial expressions guide the audience through the highs and lows of prosecuting Lincoln’s assassins.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Manhunt series finale.] The Manhunt series finale depicts one of war secretary Edwin Stanton’s most famous acts. The politician barricaded himself in his office for three months in protest of President Andrew Johnson’s attempt to remove him from office. Johnson became the first American president to be impeached because of this move; just one vote saved him from complete removal. The impeachment took place while Stanton was still a shut-in that office. Barricading himself in the room was the final scene Tobias Menzies filmed for the Apple TV+ limited series, which debuted its finale on Friday, April 19. The Emmy winner tells TV Insider that it was a perfect way to wrap this political dogfight of a tale that tells “such a strange bit of history.” “Those moments, for me, really transport you back to a different time because it feels so analog,” Menzies shares. And it’s a...

Jurors in Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz’s sentencing trial detailed the “tense” deliberations that resulted in a recommendation of life in prison — and not the death penalty — for the person responsible for killing 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
While Gov. Ron Disantis blamed “a single holdout” for the life imprisonment sentence, there were actually three jurors who voted against the death penalty, including one female juror who was a “hard ‘no,'” jury foreperson Benjamin Thomas later told Wfor.

When it comes to putting celebrities into political positions, the hosts of “The View” remain skeptical. But for Alyssa Farah Griffin, at this point, too many people are running for office just to gain celebrity status; she’d prefer a celebrity who actually wants to govern.
The discussion came on Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” as the hosts discussed the fact that Dwayne Johnson recently confirmed that he is no longer considering a run for president. In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Johnson said, “It’s off the table. Yes. It is off the table. I will say this ‘cause it requires a B-side to this. I love our country and everyone in it. I also love being a daddy. And that’s the most important thing to me is being a daddy, number one, especially during this time, this critical time in my daughters’ lives.”

The first of four episodes of “America’s Got Talent” dedicated to the judge cuts phase of the competition airs on July 17. Over the course of the previous six audition episode of “Agt,” the four judges — Mel B, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel — said yes to nearly 100 acts. Now they must cut these down to just three dozen who will get a chance to perform on the live shows that start on August 14.
Helping them make these tough decisions on July 17 is actor Ken Jeong. As with the regular panel, he also gets a Golden Buzzer that will send an act straight through to the quarter-finals. We have done a little digging and found out which 20 acts appear on the first episode in this round of the reality competition series.
Of these, only seven will survive and continue on in their quest to be crowned the season 13 winner.

Approximately four months ago, X-Files fans everywhere collectively freaked out as Fox announced its plan for a six-episode revival of the series, more than a decade after the show had ended. An actual UFO sighting could doubtfully cause such an effect from hardcore aficionados who have drooled over Mulder’s deadpan dark humor and Scully’s magnificent eye rolls for years. Then on July 7, Fox released a trailer for the re-airing of the series and called for an X-Files marathon challenge where participants watch an episode per day, as the revival was only 201 days away. Sound on Sight will be joining in the nostalgic fun, posting weekly articles on each season’s mythology, standalone titles, character development, and finally, a spotlight on a favorite episode.

Not much more than a group of actors sat round in a Romanian castle (the very same one owned by Charles Band that featured in Castle Freak no doubt) talking trash to each other, with the occasional appearance by a group of deformed “creatures”… that is the plot of Hideous! in a nutshell. Although the official synopsis goes something like this: “Dr. Lorca, an eccentric collector of biological oddities, has just acquired his greatest specimen; a horrible mutant born of noxious waste… but the creature’s rightful owner wants it back. The collector’s clash is cut short though, as the sickening specimen comes to life, re-animating an angry, oozing little army of ferocious freaks.”

Rest in peace, Prop Joe. Robert F. Chew, the actor and teacher best known as rueful gangster Proposition Joe on HBO’s The Wire, died in his sleep yesterday in his Northwest Baltimore home at the age of 52. He was a great character actor who portrayed one of TV drama’s most reliably memorable supporting characters — one modeled, however loosely, on reality. “Like Bubbles, Joe is based on an actual person of the same name, and the real Proposition Joe's preference for negotiation over violence could not keep him from getting gunned down in a Baltimore nightclub in 1984,” wrote critic Andrew Johnston in a 2006 article about the character’s “Br'er Rabbit tactics” and “belief in crime as an honorable profession.”Prop Joe was one of the few characters to appear regularly in all five seasons of David Simon’s urban drama. Chew was a mountain of a man with a...

Melissa failed to impress the judges when she took to the Bgt stage earlier this year and her guitar playing dog Laika, refused to do anything of the kind. She later revealed that judge Simon Cowell was so smitten by Laika, that she offered him ownership of the beloved pooch.
Today, The Sun is reporting that Melissa as been attending specialists because of autonomic dysfunction, which leaves her hands and face feeling frozen.
Melissa said:

Britain’s Got Talent star Andrew Johnston has been forced to stop singing, after his voice broke.
Andrew, now 15, wowed audiences and judges alike in series two of Bgt when he sang Pie Jesu from Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Requiem. Watch the video below.
The youngster did land a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco but has agreed with bosses that he will rest his voice until it matures into a tenor. We loved his audition and loved his crystal clear vocal performances. Let’s hope his voice matures sooner rather than later!
