Feeling provoked, Jones went back to resume batting post lunch and hit 210 before before being dismissed and had to be carried back to the pavilion on a stretcher. The test ended in a tie, only the second such finish in test history till date and Jones received a momentous applause from the spectators in the stadium for his outstanding innings apart from being jointly awarded Man-of-the-Match alongside Indian captain Kapil Dev.
- One of key contributors to Australia's 1987 World Cup triumph, Jones scored 314 runs through the tournament averaging nearly 45 and was instrumental in accelerating the scoring rate due to his quick running between the wickets.
