Sean Diddy Combs was once used as partial inspiration for the 2009 film Notorious, which was based on Biggie Smalls’ rise in rap. The feature would see a few of Biggie Smalls’ loved ones and associates on the big screen. One of them was Lil’ Kim, who had a pretty negative opinion of her portrayal in the film.
Lil’ Kim has always hated ‘Notorious’ Lil Kim | Aaron J. Thornton/FilmMagic
Lil’ Kim has been very candid about her feelings towards the feature Notorious. When the film first came out back in 2009, the rapper was critical about the way her character was written.
“The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a ‘character’ to create a more interesting story line instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work,” she said in a statement according to CBS News.

In director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s new biopic Back to Black, British costume designer PC Williams took on the monumental task of dressing Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse, as well as the rest of the cast. Named for Winehouse’s second and final studio album released in 2006, the film spans eight years in the life of the iconic singer, who passed away in 2011 at just 27 years old.
Winehouse left a tall fashion legacy with her unique mix of retro va-va-voom styles and sportswear. Caricature-like proportions were another signature — from a giant beehive, bold gold jewelry and teetering peep-toe pumps to diminutive halter dresses and ultra-skinny jeans. In 2010, the singer even collaborated with one of her favorite British labels, Fred Perry, on a 17-piece capsule line. The brand, featured heavily in the film, continues an ongoing collection to benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation. A 2021 Julien’s Auctions sale of some of the...

Brittany Banks’ new appearance has her fans and critics baffled.
Since appearing on Season 2 of 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way, Brittany has lived a completely different life.
When we were introduced to the Miami native, she was in a long-distance relationship with Yazan Abu Harirah.
While visiting Yazan in his native Jordan, Brittany had to be cautious about her fashion choices and dress modestly to adhere to Muslim culture.
Now Brittany isn’t afraid to take fashion risks and show off her physique.
Brittany did that in her most recent Instagram post, unveiling a totally different look.

The 31-year-old marketing manager posed for bathroom selfies, clad in a white sports bra and purple leggings, looking nothing like the Brittany we were introduced to on TLC.
Brittany’s attire showcased her curvy physique as she promoted her cookbook in the caption.

Ever since the raids on Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ homes in California and Florida a name that’s been coming up a lot is Jay-Z. Part of that has to do with fellow rapper 50 Cent who has been trolling both men on social media following the news.
In one Instagram post, 50 put up an image of Jay’s face on the side of a milk carton with the word “Missing” written above the photo and captioned it: “Anybody seen Jay Lol” with several laughing emojis and “Puff said … ain’t answering his phone. Lol.” Then in another post, the “In da Club” artist shared a pic of the “99 Problems” rapper waving to a camera and wrote: “Here is Jay-Z last reported seen waving at Puffy jet” with an airplane emoji.
While there have been several lawsuits brought against Diddy recently alleging sexual assault and abuse spanning over three decades, Jay-Z has not been accused in those.

While living with Sean “Diddy” Combs, R&b pop star Usher said that he “went there to see the lifestyle — and I saw it.”
After raids on Combs’ homes earlier this month, an interview from 2016 with Usher and Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show has resurfaced.
In the interview, Usher speaks on the year that he spent living with Combs. He was 13 years old at the time.
Combs was the founder of Bad Boys Records and there have been claims of “very curious things” had happened at his L.A. and Miami residences over the years.
On March 25, law enforcement including Homeland Security and federal agents raided his homes after two lawsuits against him made sex-trafficking allegations.
In 2016, Usher commented on his time with Diddy saying it was “pretty crazy” and that he didn’t, “know if I could indulge and understand what I was even looking at. It was pretty wild.

Before “Rain on Me” by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande and “Kiss Me More” by Doja Cat and Sza became Grammy-winning female collabs, there was a combo of women that managed to snag a big win in the pop field: Christina Aguilera’s “Lady Marmalade” featuring Pink, Lil Kim, and Mýa. The star-studded collaboration, a cover of the number-one hit made famous by the group Labelle, solidified all four artists as pop mainstays, and made history at the Grammys as a diverse, all-female win.
The 2001 “Lady Marmalade” was released in April of that year as part of the soundtrack for “Moulin Rouge,” the Oscar-winning Baz Luhrmann film. The track was quite unusual, on paper. Pink, Lil Kim, Mýa, and Aguilera made very different music, ranging from pop to hip-hop to R&b. On top of that, the track was produced by the iconic Missy Elliott, giving it yet more star cred.

Bowen Yang played U.S. Representative George Santos, who found himself at the center of an investigation into his campaign donation spending, during the “Saturday Night Live” Weekend Update.
Santos was found by a House Ethics Committee report to have spent tens of thousands of campaign dollars on designer clothes and shoes, Botox, OnlyFans, personal trips and casino roulette tables. More than $40,000 from his campaign’s bank account was found to have not been reported to the Federal Election Commision and used for personal expenses.
As Santos, Yang joined Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost to discuss the illegal spending. “George, this is serious. They’re calling for your expulsion,” Jost said. “Well then, girl, ‘expul’ me!” Yang’s Santos replied.
“Isn’t Congress kind of like OnlyFans anyway? People paying you to do nasty things on a sad, bad livestream?” he said, attempting to defend himself.

“I’m home!” Lauryn Hill bellowed to the packed crowd at Newark’s Prudential Center. Her DJ, who performs as DJ Reborn, had properly set the tone for the night with an extended-minute medley of Nineties hits — though they didn’t need much of a primer. The crowd was predominantly filled with spectators who looked like they were in Hill and the Fugees’ age bracket and had experienced the wonder of 1998’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in real-time.

On Saturday, reality show star Kim Kardashian, 42, and retired NFL player Tom Brady, 46, got into a bidding war at the inaugural Reform Alliance Casino Event.
Hosted by Jay-Z, Michael Rubin and Meek Mill, the event took place at the Ocean Casino Resort, located in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Kardashian and Brady reportedly went head-to-head as they each tried to acquire a pricy art piece.
The two playfully exchanged blows, but ultimately, Kardashian and Tom finally agreed to give $2 million each and work it out in private.
The artwork was painted by George Condo, 65, an American artist who specializes in artificial realism, an art form that emphasizes the creation of a greater image, regardless of their representation of reality. Condo says he is inspired to mix styles of cubism, expressionism and classicism by artists such as Picasso and Arcimboldo. His fresh take on modern art has catapulted him to success.

The magazine says its limited-edition cover ‘is meant to salute and pay tribute to Black icons.’
Lil Kim is putting Ebony on blast for the heavily retouched photo the magazine used of her for its limited-edition cover, but the outlet says it is proud of the cover.
The beef started Tuesday after the magazine unveiled the cover featuring the legendary rapper, which is one of five special covers celebrating 50 years of hip-hop. Ebony shared the cover on its Instagram page and it drew praise from some fans. But a large sector of Lil Kim’s fan base called out the magazine for heavily retouching the photo.
Things only got worse from there. After a fan commented on the post asking, “Who photographed this?” the magazine’s photography director shot back with the reply, “Man, she wanted to be in control of the retouching, so this is what we got.”

The 2023 VMAs will be broadcast live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center Tuesday night and TheWrap will be posting the arrival photos as the stars hit the red carpet.
Musicians are always the biggest red carpet risk-takers; Who can forget Lil Kim’s purple pastie or Lady Gaga’s meat dress? And for the men, Lil Nas X has been turning looks the last few years.
Take a trip down memory lane as we highlight the most outrageous fashions from MTV VMAs past, and see 2023’s looks here.

There’s “no doubt” Gwen Stefani has great style, but this look was too much, from her blue fur bikini, matching hair and platform flip-flops. She’d likely be accused of cultural appropriation for her face jewels and henna tattoos today.

On the last night of Rolling Loud Miami, a coalition of hip-hop's latest and greatest female rappers paid homage to the Queen. Not Queen Bey. Or Lil' Kim. But Trina. When the DJ dropped "Look Back at Me," a classic song from "Still Da Baddest," all of today's hip-hop queens were feeling it: Latto, TiaCorine, FloMilli, KaMillion, Kari Faux, Maiya the Don.
For those born and raised in the Southern United States, Trina was among the first wave of rappers to represent not only for the South but for women overall, and her impact is felt everywhere - from the rap game to modern television. Three years after André 3000 and Big Boi of Outkast said "The South got something to say" at the 1995 Source Awards, a swift and fierce rebuke of the bicoastal elites who thought the South should have no say in hip-hop, Trina made her debut on "Nann N***a,...

Author Raquel Cepeda once said, "The role of hip-hop journalists is to document hip-hop with integrity." Fifty years ago, that esteemed role did not yet exist, for the culture was too young and too niche to find its way into literary archives and journalistic coverage. But seeing how far hip-hop has come, times have changed, and so have the rules for those documenting it - namely, us women.
The role of women hip-hop journalists, unfortunately by today's standards, is not just to report on the culture earnestly. Thanks to sexism, patriarchy, and misogyny, we don't get that luxury. Our skills and knowledge are always under a microscope in this "boys' club," as we've oftentimes been seen as the ill-informed who stumbled our way into this space and not as the revered who helped build, refine, and make it better; as those who've made it safer to tell ours and others' stories.

In the age of endless movie biopics, it should be a crime how few of them are based on hip-hop's greatest artists. Yes, we have "Straight Outta Compton" about West Coast rap group N.W.A. and "Notorious" about The Notorious B.I.G., but as far as high-quality, true-to-life biopics go (50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" and Eminem's "8 Mile" take too many creative liberties to truly be considered biopics), that's pretty much where the list of hip-hop biopics begins and ends.
But with the 50th anniversary of hip-hop upon us in 2023, there's no better time to explore the great pioneers of hip-hop who deserve their moment on screen. After all, without the likes of The Sugarhill Gang, LL Cool J, and Snoop Dogg, there would be no Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, or Drake. Fifty years ago, the sisterhood of hip-hop did not yet exist. The genre was still an infant, and women were fighting to have their voices heard among the founding fathers, so competition between them was more encouraged than comradeship. Yet, five decades later, emerging artist Maiya the Don finds herself in the middle of rap's women renaissance with fellow femcees supporting her at every turn. Not every up-and-coming woman rapper can say that.
"Everybody that I've engaged with has been nothing but sweet and welcoming," the 21-year-old tells Popsugar of her newfound rap friendships.
Starting out as a beauty creator on TikTok, Maiya didn't get her first taste of fame until her big moment arrived last October. "Telfy," the Brooklynite's first hit single - a flip of Sisqo's 1999 classic "Thong Song" and dubbed the official Telfar handbag anthem - was inescapable on social media as her designer-inspired, braggadocious bars made the rounds.

There was a cipher going on outside the Hip-Hop 50 Live show at Yankee Stadium. One woman took the mic, intently closing her eyes while focusing on her next bar. As I walked away, she rhymed an improvisational derivative of recuperate, before spitting “that’s not even a word, I just be sayin’ shit.” The line set an apropos tone for the day. Hip-hop was bore out of rule-shirking and boundless imagination — and it made its way to “the house that Ruth built” to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Once upon a time, Lil' Kim gathered Missy Elliott, Da Brat, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Angie Martinez to record a sequel to her "Hardcore" offering "Not Tonight." Together, at the height of their careers, the seasoned rap stars and a "rookie on this all-star team" (Martinez) released their 1997 hit "Ladies Night Remix," one of the greatest female collaborations in hip-hop history. Not only did the iconic, femme-forward track dominate on radio, sweep up a 1998 Grammy nomination, and become an official girls-night-out staple, but its massive success set the tone for what future female rap collaborations would aspire to be, even to this day.
Kim's original "Not Tonight" is raunchier than its remixed anthem, as it sounds more like a sultry after-hours track where the rap star doesn't mince words about her demands for lip service - "I don't want d*ck tonight / Eat my p*ssy right." But the "Ladies Night Remix,...

Returning to hip-hop’s birthplace, classic rappers who pioneered the sound — as well as those who have proudly carried the rap torch — joined forces to honor the genre’s 50th birthday and celebrate its historic and global impact on pop culture.

Since hip-hop's inception, the culture has been a male-dominated space. Women have had to fight for their right to exist alongside their male peers, exercise autonomy over their bodies, and rap without restrictions. It's no secret that the culture of hip-hop is inherently fueled by misogyny and patriarchy; female rappers have been ostracized, while their male counterparts stand to gain. But in recent years, an influx of women rappers have emerged, ushering in a resurgence of sexually explicit lyrics that have jolted mainstream music, social media, and even politics. Yes, women in music have always talked about their sexual prowess; women rappers are simply continuing a long and strong tradition of Black women loudly reclaiming their own sexuality, most notably under the umbrella of "pussy rap."

Growing up in the Bay Area, Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, now known to fans as Saweetie, listened to 106.1 Kmel and Wild 949 on her drive to school with her dad every morning. And like clockwork, Turf Talk's "It's a Slumper," her dad's favorite song, could be heard blasting from the 808 speakers in the trunk as they made their way across the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. At home, the family computer was riddled with viruses, thanks to her LimeWire downloads of Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma's mixtapes. This was Saweetie's first introduction to hip-hop.

Women have always been a part of hip-hop history - from the culture's B-girl days to its birth in the Bronx, NY, to today's era that sees femcees putting rap on their backs. The culture doesn't move forward without the power, resilience, and fearlessness of women. And looking ahead, the future of hip-hop only looks brighter as today's talented women in rap usher in a new renaissance fueled by collaboration, support, hustle, and awe-inspiring ambition.
As Popsugar celebrates the last 50 years of women's excellence in hip-hop, we can't help but ask what the next half-century might look like, specifically for its music artists. In just five decades, women in rap have accomplished the unthinkable in a once male-dominated culture. They've redefined the boundaries of rap, created timeless music, changed beauty standards, led crucial conversations around social issues, created a daring subgenre for womanhood and sexual autonomy, and set sweeping digital trends.

Hip-hop found me before I even knew what it was. I was about 4 years old when I first heard Lauryn Hill spitting rhymes on The Fugees's "The Score" and "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill." Although I was too young then to understand the meaning behind her raps, I knew Hill's lyrics were unlike anything I'd ever heard from a woman. They were strong, confident, honest. My young, curious mind wanted to hear more.
In the following years, I discovered more femcees like Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott, and Queen Latifah, who rapped unapologetically about their power - whether they were embracing their sexual prowess through "pussy rap," bragging about being "super duper fly," or demanding respect and "U.N.I.T.Y." Their bold and brave efforts showed me all the ways women could take up space in hip-hop, even amid rampant sexism and misogyny. In my eyes, they were hip-hop queens who fought valiantly...
