- William Karel was born in Tunisia, studied in Paris before emigrating to Israel, where he lived for 10 years in a kibbutz. In 1981 he returned to France working for over 10 years as a photographer before concentrating on writing and directing. In 1995, he received an Emmy Award for his documentary J.F. Kennedy.
