Dirty Grandpa, starring Robert De Niro & Zac Efron, started life as a Black List script. Er, it's not ended its life as a Black List script
Wow, who knew that the much maligned trailer for Dirty Grandpa might just turn out to be the very best of the year? Trailers can hide what a film really is, or mislead you about what to expect, but functionally, they're meant to briefly encapsulate the movie they're advertising, and rarely has a film's corpulence been so perfectly distilled, with such repellent efficiency, as this.
In case you missed the trailer and might otherwise wander into a cinema with any other expectations, the title character is Dick Kelly (Robert De Niro), a septugenarian whose wife has recently passed after a long battle with cancer. He's not on good terms with his son (Dermot Mulroney), but his buttoned-down grandson Jason (Zac Efron...

If you're lamenting the final season of "Parks & Recreation" beginning this week, don't worry, because Aubrey Plaza has lined up a new role for the big screen. Deadline has word that the actress who plays the dreary, April Ludgate on the aforementioned NBC comedy series is taking a role in Lionsgate's road trip comedy Dirty Grandpa. For those who don't remember, the film follows Robert De Niro as a perverted former Army general who thinks his grandson is about to marry the wrong woman, so he tricks him into driving down to Florida for spring break in order to get him to cut loose amongst the flood of sexuality. Last we heard, the film may also be called Driving Dick Kelly, but it sounds like Dirty Grandpa may have stuck. In addition, there seems to be some discrepancies with the plot description as the latest report that adds Plaza to...

Following news that Robert De Niro and Zac Efron would team on the comedy Dirty Grandpa, Lionsgate has just revealed that they'll release the comedy (which may end up being called Driving Dick Kelly) on December 25th, 2015 for some counter-programming alongside Mission: Impossible 5. The film directed by Dan Mazer (I Give It a Year) follows an uptight guy (Efron) who, right before his wedding, is tricked into driving his foul-mouthed grandfather (De Niro), a former Army general, to Florida for spring break. There's the potential for fun here, but De Niro's comedies are more miss than hit. And there's more! The studio also announced that they will release Now You See Me 2 in theaters on June 10th, 2016. It's not clear if the film will have a different title, but Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine will all return in the...

Robert De Niro and Zac Efron are set to form one of the more unlikely big-screen pairings of recent years, with the duo in talks to star in comedy Driving Dick Kelly. According to THR, De Niro is currently in talks to play a former army general convinced that his grandson (Efron) is on the brink of marrying the wrong woman. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, De Niro plans a road trip to Florida to coincide with spring break, in the hope that Efron will decide he’s not ready to give up the single life just yet. ...

We can never have too many wacky road trip comedies, but they need to involve particular formula to make things extra off-the-wall. Here’s one version: take a no-nonsense youngster — extra points if he’s a millennial completely dependent on technology who doesn’t appreciate how good things are nowadays (a mile uphill in the snow to school, etc., etc.) — and pair him with a zany sex-obsessed octogenarian who just wants to party. And party hard! Where we going? Vegas? Why? Who cares? Such an adventure is set to star Zac Efron and Robert De Niro with a script by John Phillips and direction by frequent Sacha Baron Cohen collaborator Dan Mazer (he’s a writer on Borat, Bruno and The Dictator). The project is going through a bit of an identity crisis at this point — it’s either called Dirty Grandpa or Driving Dick Kelly, depending on which outlet you consult. But...

In news that must surprise fans of either actor, two-time Academy Award winner Robert De Niro is hitting the road with “High School Musical” heartthrob Zac Efron in “Driving Dick Kelly.” Formerly “Dirty Grandpa,” “Driving Dick Kelly” is a buddy movie depicting a prurient senior citizen and his grandson, who he dupes into taking him to Florida for Spring Break. Jeff Bridges and Michael Douglas had both earlier been rumored to be circling the lusty grandfather role. De Niro, whose “Last Vegas” opened last year, also flexed his comedy muscles in the “Fockers” series, among others, while Efron just successfully reinvented himself in the comedy world with "Neighbors." Dan Mazer ("I Give It A Year") is slated to direct; John Phillips wrote the screenplay. [The Wrap] Guy Pearce has been incredibly busy of late, and he’s not showing any signs of slowing down. The actor has just been cast along with Anthony Lapaglia and Kerry Fox,...

It's really odd to my why it has taken so long for producers and studios to get behind the old Twilight Zone episodes. Richard Kelly did it with The Box and now Summit is about to get rolling on Countdown, with scribe Michael Brandt set to direct. Read on for the massive article.

Late last night writer-director Richard Kelly updated his MySpace blog with a few Nasa goodies and a response to the various plot synopses that are floating around on the web for his adaptation of The Box. "I wanted to post a link to a great behind-the-scenes segment produced by our friends at Nasa on location at Langley, profiling our last week of filming," he writes. "In the footage you will see brief glimpses of some of the (very large) sets constructed for the film in the large-scale wind tunnel, which has never been used in a motion-picture... until now!"
