This colorful gangland drama was made by a studio in transition, in the middle of a crippling musician’s strike. Robert Taylor and Cyd Charisse were MGM’s last contract stars; her costumes and dance numbers are wildly anachronistic for the period setting and she refused to take direction from Nicholas Ray, whose career was coming apart at the seams. Yet the maverick director must have done something right, as the show has remained a favorite of audiences and critics. Co-starring Lee J. Cobb, John Ireland and Corey Allen. The Wac’S remastered Blu-ray is a beauty.

“…because you have a penis”
The Young Women’s Christian Association of New Zealand has launched a campaign to demand equal pay for women.
To resolve the reality that women in New Zealand are paid 10% less for doing the same job as men, men are charged 10% more than women in an ad created by Ddb Auckland.
The campaign, which centres around the website demandequalpay.org.nz, hopes to get 10,000 signatures from women and men to pressure the government into making salaries fairer.
Monica Briggs, CEO of Ywca Auckland said: “It is the belief of the Ywca Auckland that by raising public awareness around this issue and giving some education around the facts, that people will debate the issue and just as importantly, pledge their support at demandequalpay.org.nz – so that government can be urged to adopt the Pay Equality Bill, drafted by Dr Judy McGregor, the out-going Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner.

It's often said that politics is a combat sport. But they've taken it to a new level in Massachusetts.
During a debate Tuesday (Oct. 4) among Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate, Elizabeth Warren took a shot at the person she's angling to replace, onetime nude model and Republican Senator Scott Brown.
When asked, "To help pay for his law school education, Scott Brown posed for Cosmo. How did you pay for your college education?" Warren replied, "I kept my clothes on."
Brown soon fired back. During a radio interview on Thursday (Oct. 6), he was asked what he thought of Warren's comments about keeping her clothes on. Brown simply said "Thank God."
If that wasn't bad enough, the state party representatives joined the fray.
Claire Kelly, the executive director of the state's Democratic party responded, "Sen. Brown's comments are the kind of thing you would expect to hear in a frat house,...
