- Ali Akbar Khan was born on April 14, 1922 in Shibpur, Comilla, Bengal Presidency, British India [now Bangladesh]. He was a composer, known for The Darjeeling Limited (2007), Taking Woodstock (2009) and Jhinder Bandi (1961). He was married to Mary Khan. He died on June 18, 2009 in San Anselmo, California, USA.

- He was the first Indian musician to receive the MacArthur Foundation "genius grant" in 1991.
