Big Finish is finally entering current Doctor Who continuity with the Unit Extinction adventures, but what does that mean?
During Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary celebrations, everybody had their own favourite moments. Maybe yours was seeing Matt Smith and David Tennant sparring with each other. Maybe it was the “all thirteen!” moment on Gallifrey, seeing Tom Baker turn up at the end to say “Hi! I’m Tom Baker! How cool is that?”, or watching Peter Davison and Colin Baker try and break into the BBC. There was no shortage of punch-the-air moments for fans. But as someone who spent nearly every moment of the anniversary bouncing up and down and literally clapping my hands with glee, the highpoint came towards the end of Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor short, The Night of the Doctor. Just before he regenerates, he utters the words “Charlie, C'rizz, Lucy, Tamsin, Molly, friends, companions I've known,...

James Wan has created some of the best horror movies of the last 10 years. The first full trailer for Demonic was released today, and it leans pretty heavy on Wan's name as writer and producer. This is the second film from director Will Canon, who is not mentioned in the trailer. The synopsis is pretty simple: "A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts." With a "story by" credit from Wan, odds are it's going to be a well-plotted script. The movie has a bit of a found footage vibe without relying on it to tell the story. My favorite part of the trailer - aside from the floating blood - is the infrared camera.

“There are a lot of theories about how to open these gates between our world and the underworld. The trick is finding them. Everybody join hands.” Ghost hunters want to hear from the dead, but what if a haunted house responded very violently? Previously known as House of Horror, we’ve been tracking the James Wan-produced Demonic since early 2011, and now the movie about ghost-seeking gone wrong has received its first trailer.
From James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge. The script was written by Max La Bella and is based on an original idea from Wan:

The last we heard of Demonic - based on a story created by James Wan – came back in July of last year, when a release date for the horror flick was pencilled in for December 2014. In case you hadn’t noticed, December came and went with no sign of the paranormal caper. Were Dimension Films worried it would go unnoticed amid the wave of awards contenders cluttering up the festive season? It hardly seems like a concern for a genre effort like this, but whatever the reason, its first trailer has been unveiled in anticipation of a new release date.

James Wan, who scared audiences with "The Conjuring," "Insidious" and "Saw" franchises, is getting "Demonic." Wan is producing the film starring Maria Bello ("A History of Violence," "Third Person") and Frank Grillo ("The Purge: Anarchy"). Dimension Films will release it this winter. Will Canon ("Brotherhood") will direct, with Lee Clay ("Beautiful Boy") co-producing. "Demonic" follows Detective Mark Lewis (Grillo) and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein (Bello) as they interview a survivor of a mysterious massacre where several amateur ghost-hunters died. What really happened? "James Wan is the new master of terror and we are thrilled to be releasing his film this December," said Dimension Films' Erik Lomis in a press release. Wan recently wrapped on the beleaguered "Fast and Furious 7," which will hit screens in 2015. "Demonic" will be in theaters December 12.

This December is going to be so jam-packed with awards contenders that us critics will probably have trouble finding breathing room. Luckily, there are still a few titles outside of the Oscar crowd that are aiming a little lower. One such flick appears to be Demonic, the horror title that Dimension Films has just slotted for release on December 12th.
There’s been little to no advance buzz about this frightener, and that’s surprising when one considers the talent involved. Based on an original idea by James Wan, the horror helmer behind Saw and Insidious, Demonic stars two-time Golden Globe nominee Maria Bello and The Purge: Anarchy lead Frank Grillo (pictured above). Will Canon (Brotherhood) is sitting behind the camera.

Andrew talks us through the best of the Eighth Doctor Audio Adventures from Big Finish. No particular reason...
Contains spoilers for The Night of the Doctor and several Big Finish plays.
Now is a very good time to start investigating the Eighth Doctor stories from Big Finish audio productions. If you don't know why, you should probably look here immediately, and maybe have some coffee.
Mentioned in The Night of the Doctor are the names of the Eighth Doctor's audio companions: Charley Pollard, C'rizz, Lucie Miller, Tamsin Drew and Molly O'Sullivan. The reason this is a big deal is that the Eighth Doctor had previously only appeared in one television story (1996's Doctor Who TV movie), and as a result multiple continuities had opened up across novels, comics and audioplays. The audioplays are still ongoing, and have now been tentatively slotted into the TV continuity.

In my humble opinion, I think James Wan is the master of horror when it comes to movies. They guy knows how to make them right and just scare the shit out of audiences. We’ve been talking about James Wan’s House of Horror since early 2011, but the movie has finished filming and is now titled Demonic. Produced by James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge earlier this year. It’s been a few years since Mario Bello did a true horror movie – and yes, we’re including Grown Ups – but it appears she’s ready to dive into some supernatural chills once more. She’s signed on to a new, James Wan-produced thriller alongside The Grey’s Frank Grillo. The film – which was called House Of Horror, but is currently making its way through pre-production without a final title – will see a psychologist (Bello, we assume, since she’s credited as Dr Elizabeth Klein) and a cop (Grillo) interrogate the lone survivor of a ghost hunting expedition that went horribly wrong. While the normal result of such trips is a bunch of overly dramatic people getting scared by “ghostly” noises on a tape recorder or flickering dials on a temperature gauge, this one ended with five people dead and a real mystery to solve.Wan, who is...

Straight-to-series pickups have been popular with cable nets and the new online content producers such as Netflix, but now the broadcast networks increasingly are using the strategy—which could be a boon for working actors. NBC alone has ordered five projects straight to series in the last year, while CBS has ordered “Under the Dome” and ABC has ordered “Mistresses” straight to series. The growing number of these broadcast network projects going straight to series will expand opportunities for performers. “It’s a great deal for an actor because you know that you don’t have to go through the process of shooting a pilot and waiting months to find out if it gets picked up,” Beth Klein, senior vice president, talent and casting, Universal Television, told Backstage in a recent interview. ”You get to jump into story telling that isn’t just a one-shot deal. And it’s also...

Maria Bello has been cast as the female lead in James Wan's new untitled thriller that's set up over at Dimension Films. Wan, who started the Saw franchise and directed Insidious is producing the film, and Will Canon is set to direct it. Canon has made a handful of short films and a feature length film called Brotherhood which I've never seen.
The story centers on a "detective and a police psychologist (Bello) who are investigating the massacre of five college kids in a decrepit home and must deal with a suspect, a survivor of the killing, who explains the group [were] amateur ghost-hunters and that it was the house that is to blame."
It's not specified in the report at THR, but I believe this is Wan's film House of Horrors, which was announced last year. Canon is the third director to be attached to the project. It sounds like a cool horror movie,...

The film will be presented and produced by Wan whilst director Will Canon is expected to helm. Canon will begin shooting in January 2013 in La from a script written by Max La Bella which was based on an original idea by Wan himself. Bello (below) will play psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein....

We’ve been periodically posting updates on James Wan’s House of Horror since early 2011, but it looks like the project is ready to move forward (possibly with a new title). It was revealed that Maria Bello was circling the lead role in the film this April, but Dimension Films has just announced that she has officially been cast. We also have confirmation on the director, a shooting date, and an updated synopsis:

I participated in a Dreamago panel moderated by WGA-West VP and USC film writing prof and an artistic director at the Sundance Institute Wrting Labs, Howard Rodman.
Other panelists included Vince Fischer who, having been educated and working in Paris, Montreal, New York in business and advertising, event production, and creating the endorsement agency GlamCom which initiates deals between celebrities and products, such as he did with George Clooney and Nespresso, has gone on to create Artistic Alliance Eci which represents screenwriters, directors and actors with offices in Beijing, L.a. and Paris, to match people and projects abroad. Daniel Hsia, the writer/ director of Shanghai Calling, (Isa: Aldamisa) a U.S. - China co-production distributed in China by China Film Group and in So. Korea by Sookie and due to be released in Norht America in 2013 works with Janet Yang and is eager to do more co-productions in China though he admits to difficulties with censors, etc. You can see the trailer of Shanghai Calling here.
Neil Landau who wrote Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, the 3D animated feature Tad: The Lost Explores from Paramount which is the highest grossing animated film in Spain's history and the #1 Spanish box ofice movie of the year, is now working on its sequel and another animated feature by the same director. His latest screenplay is being produced by Cary Brokaw for Avenue Pictures (The Player, Closer, Angels in America). He is curretnly developing an original miniseries for HBO for the Russian Market and a crime drama for Sreda in Moscow.
Paula Manzanedo-Schmitt is VP of Film Finances Inc. the world leader in completion guarantees. She has been involved in more than 1,000 films and TV programs internationally and in U.S. She spoke of the various cross-cultural requisites in film production abroad.
The discussion centered around whether filmmakers could make a film without the notorioius interference of studios (they should all be so lucky as to have this problem). In other words, the panelists discussed their experiences making films with Russians and Chinese. All agreed that working abroad, and especially with international sales agents who also produce allows for greater freedom of vision (although in China the reward is writng so that China censorship does not interfere because one has written to their specifications). All agreed also that there is a certain cross-cultural divide one must discover in order to work effectively.
My suggestions for finding a way to create without corporate interferences are listed below:
** Coproduce with Canada who has the most coproduction treaties in the world, or go directly to producers or sales agents who do not rely on treaties.
** Work with international sales agents who produce international coproductions which include U.S., or with the producers of those films who now have established track records.

Or because they want to meet Snoop Dogg or have a close encounter with Pamela Anderson? Maybe. But the real reason is – immigrants go to the U.S. to chase the American dream. Immigrants is the story of Vladislav (a Russian), and Joska (a Hungarian). Both are immigrants and best friends, living and chasing the American dream together. (Warning: Extremely significant spoilers follow! Please Do Not read further if you do not want a major plot element spoiled!)
Well, how’s that for a spoiler warning, eh? Trust me, it’s necessary, and even with that warning, I still won’t get around to discussing the main spoiler until we’re some distance into this, just to keep people from accidentally learning something important.
This boxed set is quite a thing. It features the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy), Raine Creevey (Beth Chalmers), in her first appearance since the Season 27 Lost Stories arc, a brief cameo by Ace (Sophie Aldred), Elizabeth Klein (Tracey Childs), someone simply known as the Other Doctor (Alexander Macqueen), about whom I shall talk more later, and has all of them working to stop a set of incursions from another dimension, which take the form of things like giant floating baby heads and giant lava-spewing spiders.

The (d)evil made him do it! Good old blame somebody else thing. Never mind, I think that House Of Horror is definitely worth your full attention, so I’m here to share the first photo from the whole thing. As you’re going to see – this looks really spooky. But hey, the movie plot includes a horrific massacre, amateur ghost-hunters & usual paranormal stuff, so it’s quite logical.
Just in case you’re not so familiar with this horror thriller, I will first inform you that it has an awesome team on board. Which basically means – Insidious helmer James Wan is on board to produce it, the script comes from Max La Bella, and Will Canon is directing the movie which centers around a gruesome crime scene.
Unfortunately, at this moment the only thing we know is that the movie is currently in pre-production, there’s still nothing about...

After the release of Insidious, we were excited to see what James Wan would produce under his deal with Icon Entertainment. Announced last year, the plan is for Wan to produce 8 genre films over the next four years. The first project is titled House of Horror and it looks like a new director is set to take over the film.
Javier Gutierrez was originally planned to direct and then it was announced that Xavier Gens (Hitman, The Divide) was brought in. As reported earlier, House of Horror is based on an original story from James Wan about a house that may be a gateway to hell:
