There’s a rumor floating about a sequel to Steven Spielberg’s iconic 1980s science fiction movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in the works. Is it true? Did anyone ask for this?!
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial may not be as fresh in the public’s consciousness as it was in decades past, but the friendly alien and his short adventure on Earth still hold up today. It spawned one of Universal’s longest-standing rides, loads of merchandise, and some instantly recognizable iconography: you’ll never look at the moon without imagining Elliot flying across it!
So, why wasn’t there a sequel? In 1985, William Kotzwinkle wrote a follow-up story based on Spielberg’s film. Finding people who remember this book is a chore and even more of a pain finding a copy. That’s about as close as we got to E.T. 2 until now.

The "Star Wars" universe is full of thousands of colorful, distinct creatures and characters, with plenty of aliens and other beings that make the galaxy feel bigger and lived-in. Likewise, many of the creatures serve as cool references, like the Zillo Beast being a big homage to Godzilla, or arguably the best reference in the franchise — E.T.
Yes, E.T. the titular extra-terrestrial from "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." The lovable naked alien has a little role in "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" as a senator seen in the Senate scene when Padmé moves for a vote of no confidence on Chancellor Finis Valorum — an unfortunate moment that allowed Sheev Palpatine to become chancellor and eventually emperor.
It's a short and sweet reference, one that doesn't imply a larger role and certainly not a tragic fate for the character (officially named Grebleips -- more on that later) ... or does it?...

Thirty is a tricky birthday for anyone - your twenties are in the rear-view mirror, and your forties start to sneak up (can you tell this writer is getting closer to the magic 3-0?...). But it's also the point at which you can reach a certain respectability, start to push towards (whisper it) adulthood, and make it clear that you're here to stay. All of which is a long-winded and possibly over-sharing way of saying that thirty years ago today, on June 11, 1982, "E.T: The Extra Terrestrial" was released in theaters.
Despite Steven Spielberg's track record, it wasn't necessarily expected to be a major blockbuster -- one major studio had already turned it down. But a major blockbuster is exactly what it turned out to be -- it was the biggest of all time, in fact, holding the worldwide position until "Jurassic Park" in 1993, and the domestic crown until...

It's been reported today that the director of Hop, Tim Hill, is in talks to direct Walter The Farting Dog. The movie is going to be produced by Mary Parent and the Farrelly Brothers. The Farrelly’s were originally set to direct the film when it was at Fox, but now that the plans have changed now that the film is over at Paramount.
Here is what THR had to say about this film:
Walter is based on a series of children's books written by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray, and illustrated by Audrey Colman, about a family living with an exceedingly flatulent dog. Toy Story co-writers Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow have written the screenplay adaptation.
I have never heard of this book series, I'm not even a big fan farting dogs, but it sounds like something any kid would like to watch. Let us know what you think.

It pains me to say this, but apparently Tim Hill, the director of Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop, is apparently is high demand. Just yesterday it was reported that the filmmaker has been hired by Dimension Films to helm a remake of Short Circuit and now he's landed yet another gig. THR has it that Hill has been selected and is currently in negotiations to helm Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. The Farrelly brothers, who were attached to direct while the project was still over at Fox, will now serve as producers along with Mary Parent, the former worldwide motion picture group chairman at MGM. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, who wrote the Garfield sequel that Hill also directed, wrote the script based on the books by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman. The series follows a family who own...

Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop director Tim Hill looks like he's lining up a busy schedule. Just yesterday it was announced that Hill would tackle the reboot of the Short Circuit franchise and, today, The Hollywood Reporter has word that he's been approached about helming Walter the Farting Dog . Based on a best-selling series of books by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray about a fat dog with severe flatulence, the film adaptation was first announced nearly three years ago when the property was at 20th Century Fox. There, it was being planned for the Farrelly Brothers to direct and the Jonas Brothers to star. With a script by Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, the property is now in development at Paramount and is likely open to be recast.

In preparation for a lengthy piece entitled The Frighteningly Profeminist Trilogy: Stuart Gordon’s Portrayal of 1980s Women and Capitalism in Re-Animator, From Beyond, and Dolls, James Morgart sat down with the filmmaker for a one-on-one interview.
Fangoria is pleased to present that conversation for you below.
Fangoria: I’ve heard that while a student at the University of Wisconsin you formed Screw Theatre and performed a Peter Pan production that gained recognition and landed you in jail, I was wondering if you could elaborate on that a little bit?
Stuart Gordon (Sg): Yes, it was 1968 and the same year as the Democratic convention in Chicago where the riots broke out and the police beat up and tear-gassed the protesters outside the convention. My wife, Carolyn, and I were in the middle of that, and we got tear gassed and arrested. So following the incident, I decided that maybe...

New Line Cinema has optioned the best-selling children's book "Walter the Farting Dog" and has tapped Eric Champnella to adapt the picture book into a live-action feature. The book, written by William Kotzwinkle and Glenn Murray and illustrated by Audrey Colman, tells the tale of perpetually gas-passing pooch Walter, who gets adopted from the pound by a family. The family's father eventually has enough and says the canine is pound-bound. But that night, two crooks break into the home, and Walter unleashes a hideous cloud, saving the day. The book made its way to the top of the New York Times best-seller list (children's picture category) and spawned a sequel, "Walter the Farting Dog: Trouble at the Yard Sale." A third book is in the planning stages. Champnella, a former stand-up comic, co-wrote the upcoming Disney film "Mr. 3000", starring Bernie Mac, and was one of the writers of "Eddie", starring Whoopi Goldberg. He is repped by UTA, Paul Nelson at Mosaic Media and attorney David Feldman.
