PARIS -- CanalSatellite, the digital satellite platform owned by French pay TV group Canal Plus and publishing group Lagardere, kicked off France's back-to-school season Thursday by unveiling 14 new channels with content ranging from science fiction to sex. The new channels, which will increase the platform's lineup to 290, include localized French-language versions of the Sci Fi Channel, the Discovery Real Time channel, Fox Life, Nickelodeon and Playboy TV. CanalSatellite chief executive Guy Lafarge said Thursday that the platform would rechristen itself Canalsat to acknowledge that its offer extended to new technologies, including television via ADSL and 3G mobiles.

PARIS -- French pay TV group Canal Plus on Wednesday announced top management changes, with Isabelle Parize, chief executive of the group's digital flagship channel CanalSatellite, appointed executive vp in charge of the company's international activities and diversification. Guy Lafarge has been appointed chief executive of CanalSatellite. Lafarge, who was head of marketing at France Telecom, also has been named executive vp at Canal Plus. He will be responsible for distribution at CanalSatellite.
