British character actress of stage and screen. Educated at Maidstone High School and London University. First job as an advertising copy writer. Theatrical debut with the Brixton Theatre in 'A Bill of Divorcement' (1937). Much active on the West End stage, regional and London fringe theatres, including the Mercury, Embassy and Lyric Hammersmith. Acclaimed for her performance in 'Heartbreak House' (1950) at the Arts Theatre off Leicester Square.
