- Son of Burt Lancaster and Norma Anderson.
- Wrote a draft of the screenplay for Firestarter (1984) when John Carpenter was going to direct the film. Both were replaced when The Thing (1982), a film on which they both collaborated, did poorly at the box office.
- Contracted polio, but despite having to wear braces on his legs, he played baseball at WLA field (now called the Bad News Bears Field) at Ohio Ave and Sepulveda Blvd Los Angeles Ca, in 1961. He played First Base because of his limited mobility.
- Married the second daughter of Ernie Kovacs first in Tijuana, Mexico on June 18, 1965, then remarried on December 11, 1965 in Los Angeles, California, because both sets of parents weren't sure a Tijuana marriage was legal.
They had one daughter, Keigh. - Father of only grandchild of comedian Ernie Kovacs and Bette Wilcox.
- Only daughter, Keigh Kristen Lancaster, died suddenly on 20 August 2017 at age 51.

- Bill Lancaster's screenplay for "The Bad News Bears" was based on his experiences with his father, Burt Lancaster. Buttermaker was based on Burt, who was known for his grumpiness and the character of Amanda was based on himself. Burt Lancaster would later be cast as an aged version of early 20th Century ballplayer, Archibald "Moonlight" Graham in Field of Dreams (1989).
