The New York Times features interviews every day. In its news report, in its podcasts like The Daily, in The New York Times Magazine.
But there was, to hear deputy managing editor Sam Dolnick explain, something missing.
“We didn’t have the really big flagship audio show that interviewed the biggest names in culture, and a place like The New York Times should,” Dolnick says.
On April 27, the Times will remedy that problem, launching what it is calling The Interview, a new franchise that will include an audio podcast, and a print version that will run in The New York Times Magazine. The Interview will be led by Talk columnist David Marchese, as well as Times audio host Lulu Garcia-Navarro.

After ruling Britain for 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II is now being mourned by the world.
The queen died at age 96 after some months of health complications. Her eldest son, Prince Charles of Wales, is now king, with Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, next in line for the throne.
The queen died after being placed under medical supervision and a rescheduled Privy Council meeting. The monarch passed away at her Scottish Highlands estate, Balmoral.
Queen Elizabeth II, a direct descendent of Queen Victoria, was born in 1926 and became queen after the death of her father King George VI in 1952. The queen wed Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1947 and had four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward. Philip died in April 2021 after retiring from royal duties in 2017. Queen Elizabeth II is the second-longest reigning monarch in world history.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the official Buckingham Palace Twitter page wrote.

The incentive is underpinned by Israel’s ministries of finance, culture and sports, economy and industry, foreign affairs and tourism.
Bannered the “Fund for the Promotion of Foreign Productions” the incentive will offer a rebate of up 30 to incoming films and TV shows up to a cap of 4.8 (16.6m shekels).
The ministries are also offering a further 10 on top for post-production and animation.
The measure lasts two years with the submission process opening from August 22.
“Israel has joined a prestigious club of countries that provide incentives to international productions to encourage them to come and film on their territory,” said Foreign Affairs Ministry Director General Alon Oshfiz.
“In recent years, Israel’s status as a television and film content power has risen and the Israeli story has generated global interest and curiosity.

An Al Jazeera reporter was shot and killed while on assignment during an Israeli raid in the West Bank Wednesday, the Quatar-based broadcaster said.
According to Al Jazeera, Shireen Abu Akleh — who was also an American citizen — was wearing a standard-issue protective press vest when she was shot in the back of the head while reporting in the town of Jenin. Her producer was also shot during the incident but survived, the Associated Press reported. While Israeli officials said Abu Akleh’s fatal injuries were possibly caused “by Palestinian armed gunfire,...

After 12 years of leadership by Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s parliament installed a coalition government Sunday led by Naftali Bennett, the Orthodox head of a small ultranationalist party.
Netanyahu is the longest-serving prime minister in the history of Israel, but he has struggled in recent years with controversy. He is currently on trial for corruption, including bribery and fraud, and he has been unable to secure a majority in parliament and set up a successful government, despite Israel holding four elections in the last two years. He will now serve as the opposition leader.

"We are on the map. And we will stay on the map! Not only in sports, but in everything!" That was the iconic line spoken by Israeli basketball player Tal Brody after his team won the European Championship in 1977. On the Map is a documentary that profiles the successful victory of the Israeli basketball team in the 1970s, an amazing feat that actually did help put Israel "on the map" - at least in sports history. This looks like it has glorious old school footage from the matches, as well as some great interviews with many of the players who are still alive today. Israeli figures from outside the sports world, including former ambassador Michael Oren, politician Yair Lapid and former refusenik Natan Sharansky, all recall what TV commentator Alex Giladi calls "the end of Israeli sport losing with honor." If you're into sports docs, check this out below. Here's...

Pro-boycott campaigners believe they will benefit from SodaStream controversy despite actor cutting ties with Oxfam
The movement to boycott Israeli goods linked to settlements has been boosted by "Scarlett syndrome", say activists, after the high-profile controversy over the film star Scarlett Johansson's endorsement of SodaStream.
Pro-boycott campaigners believe they will benefit from the celebrity furore, even though Johansson – faced with the incompatibility of sponsorship of SodaStream, which has a factory in an illegal settlement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, and her role as a goodwill ambassador for Oxfam – broke links with the charity.
The row follows mounting pressure, especially from Europe, where NGOs, trade unions, churches and others are forcing their governments to take action.
The number of European corporations who have severed or reviewed links with Israeli companies which operate in settlements is accelerating; the European Union is taking an increasingly tougher line; and the boycott movement is...
