Glen Powell has become a household name thanks to his standout roles in movies like Top Gun: Maverick and the upcoming disaster flick Twisters. But did you know he was almost part of another blockbuster? In a recent interview with GQ UK, Powell opened up about nearly landing a significant role in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film Oppenheimer. Close but No Cigar for Oppenheimer Role According to Powell, he was very close to playing Ernest Lawrence, a Nobel-winning nuclear physicist, in Oppenheimer. Glen Powell is arguably one of the most bankable young actors in Hollywood right now, who isn’t looking to slow down anytime soon. Since rising to stardom after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell has continued to spread his acting chops across various genres, which includes the rom-com Anyone but You, which became a smash hit.
Recently, the actor also joined forces with a former commanding officer of The Blue Angels to make a documentary following his love for aviation. But despite his career’s immense growth in the last few years, Powell is no stranger to setbacks, as after starring in one of the biggest movies of 2022, the actor missed out on one of the biggest hits of 2023.

The trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller Trap has arrived, giving a glimpse into Josh Hartnett’s performance as an unexpected serial killer. Watch the full clip below.
In Trap, Harnett plays a father who takes his teen daughter to a concert performed by pop star Lady Raven. The film interweaves the story with Lady Raven’s performance, taking place in near-real time.
Beginning as a wholesome family experience, the trailer drastically shifts in tone when Hartnett’s character discovers the police have set up a trap (get it?) at the concert to capture a notorious serial killer called The Butcher. Seemingly giving away the film’s big twist, Harnett is revealed to be The Butcher.
Written and directed by Shyamalan, Trap also stars Ariel Donoghue, Hayley Mills, and Allison Pill. It’s set to arrive in theaters on August 9th.

Josh Hartnett’s role as Ernest Lawrence in “Oppenheimer” earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award when the film took the night’s top prize of Ensemble in a Motion Picture. But the actor is already looking ahead to his next role in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming thriller “Trap,” which could afford him the opportunity to showcase a very different set of acting chops.
When Hartnett caught up with IndieWire on the red carpet of the SAG Awards on Saturday night, he shared his excitement about the movie and teased that it could be a very different performance than what fans have come to expect from him.
“It’s a pivot,” Hartnett said of the role. “But I try to make all of my roles pivots. If you’re playing the same thing again and again, it gets boring to the audience. Working with M. Night was one of...

While Josh Hartnett witnessed a notable spike in his career in the 2000s after starring in Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, he kind of disappeared from the Hollywood limelight in the 2010s. And it appears the actor has no intentions of slowing things down, as for his next outing, he will be appearing in Avatar: The Last Airbender director’s upcoming new horror, Trap.

Since Marvel Studios officially announced the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot movie that’ll introduce Marvel’s first family into the MCU, so much stuff has happened, but we are still pretty much in the fog. The movie was announced in December 2020, and in those almost three years, the only official pieces of information we have about the movie are its director and the release date.
While many rumors about the cast have circulated the internet over the past few months, there’s still no official cast announcement, and now we know it won’t even be made for a while, given the circumstances with strikes in Hollywood. The ‘WandaVision’ director, Matt Shakman, took over the project after the initially announced director, Jon Watts, walked out of the project, and Josh Friedman worked on the script before the entire project, as well as its casting process, was put on hold.

At 180 minutes, it’s not improbable to think there are no deleted scenes for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Sometimes, fans look forward to home release materials getting packed with extras, but Cillian Murphy is here to burst the bubble, saying what you see is what you get when it comes to Nolan’s latest opus.
Speaking with Collider, Murphy said there’s a meticulous method to Nolan’s madness, leaving no opportunity for scenes to fall onto the cutting room floor. “There’s no deleted scenes in Chris Nolan movies,” Murphy commented. “That’s why there are no DVD extras on his movies because the script is the movie. He knows exactly what’s going to end up – he’s not fiddling around with it trying to change the story. That is the movie.”
Murphy’s well-versed in Nolan’s ways after teaming up with the acclaimed director on multiple feature-length projects.

In a recent, now-viral interview, Matt Damon talked about how he told his wife that he would cut down on the amount of work he does and give her more time than before, but he would make an exception if Chris Nolan called. Damon, a Hollywood A-lister who first worked with Nolan on Interstellar (2015), where he had a very impactful cameo, has always been a vocal admirer of the director. He would probably take on any role if it was a Nolan project. Because a role in a Christopher Nolan film is sacred—at least, that’s how so many people in the business perceive it. And it makes sense, too, considering how Nolan uses his actors.

In the late 19th century, the legendary chemist and inventor Alfred Nobel discovered the destructive potential of nitroglycerin and invented dynamite, an explosive that, along with its other subsidiaries, not only changed the course of human civilization but also made global warfare even more destructive. For his invention, Alfred Nobel was called an ‘Emissary of Death’, a title he regretted so much that he wished to leave a legacy that could absolve him of the sin of creating a means of mass destruction. To do that, he left the majority of his fortune to create the prestigious Nobel Prize, which has since awarded excellence in various streams of science, but most importantly in peace.

Director Christopher Nolan said he once considered a couple of his Oppenheimer cast members for a very different role – Batman.
Josh Hartnett was one, but didn’t end up screen-testing for the role.
“It never got that far,” Nolan said on Thursday’s episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast. The role eventually went to Christian Bale for 2005’s Batman Begins.
Still, Nolan was impressed with Hartnett. He recalled him being “a young actor whose work I was very interested in, and I had an initial conversation with him.”
Hartnett was focused on something Nolan’s brother, Jonathan, was working on as a co-screenwriter.
“He had read my brother’s script for The Prestige at the time, and was more interested in getting involved with that,” Nolan said of the 2006 thriller.

Josh Hartnett revealed to Playboy magazine in 2015 that he talked with Christopher Nolan about taking on the role of the Caped Crusader in the director’s “Batman Begins,” which launched Warner Bros.’ billion-dollar grossing “Dark Knight” trilogy. How far did those talks go before Nolan settled on Christian Bale instead? In a new interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Nolan confirmed talks with Hartnett took place, but his casting never got too serious.
“No, it never got that far,” Nolan said when asked if he screen-tested Hartnett for the role of Batman.

Christopher Nolan is clarifying just how close Josh Hartnett was to playing Bruce Wayne.
The “Batman Begins” director recalled during the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he did meet with Harnett for the role of Batman; however, the actor never screen-tested for the role.

Hartnett stars in Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” with Nolan admitting working with the actor has been years in the making.
“I think over the last few years he’s done some really interesting things and really looked to stretch himself,” Nolan said.

In true Christopher Nolan fashion, Oppenheimer is a lot of movie. As usual, the often brilliant and sometimes equally frustrating auteur has set out to make the ultimate of whatever genre he’s working in, whether it’s the superhero movie with The Dark Knight, the techno-thriller with Inception, or the mind-bending space travel epic with Interstellar.
In this case, he’s made the final word on biopics about controversial 20th century scientists: an exhaustive and exhausting look at the rise and fall of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist widely credited as “the father of the atomic bomb.” Oppenheimer is the man who oversaw the American scientific effort, known as the Manhattan Project, to introduce nuclear weapons to humanity. The results were terrifying.
But Oppenheimer is about more than just the man, a haunted, hard-to-know figure played with impressive backbone and clarity by Cillian Murphy in a career-defining performance.

Though Oppenheimer shares visual and thematic touchstones with Christopher Nolan’s other films, its most obvious point of comparison may be Miyazaki Hayao’s The Wind Rises. Both films are about technical wizards for whom science and engineering are effectively akin to artistic practice. And both are ultimately about the ways in which their subjects’ work is inextricably tied to legacies of real-world harm and devastation.
Nolan indulges his fondness for nonlinear plot structures in the film, but the story of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) particularly benefits from this approach. Dispensing with the plodding routines of the average biopic, the filmmaker eschews a slow, steady march toward Oppenheimer’s development of the atomic bomb as part of the Manhattan Project during World War II, opting instead to orbit the two most prominent touchstones of the scientist’s life: the creation of the bomb itself and the security...

There is a distinctly quiet moment in writer-director Christopher Nolan’s operatic and intimidatingly vast “Oppenheimer,” a brainy, brassy yet, on the whole, majestic historical biopic-thriller about the father of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer. The moment is part of a sequence that recounts a first in the history of humankind: the detonation of the world’s earliest nuclear weapon during the Trinity test explosion, that some of the universe’s top scientific brains carried out as part of the “Manhattan Project.”

Cillian Murphy, the star of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer, has shared some details about the filming process and how he prepared for the role of the American physicist who led the development of the atomic bomb.
In an interview on Marc Maron’s Wtf podcast, Murphy revealed that the film was shot in a record time of 57 days, despite being a huge production with massive sets and a large ensemble cast. He said that Nolan’s approach was very fast and efficient, with minimal crew and equipment.
“The pace of that was insane. The sets are huge, but it feels like being on an independent movie. There’s just Chris and the cameraman. One camera always, unless there’s some huge, huge set piece, and the boom op and that’s it. There’s no video village, there’s no monitors, nothing. He’s a very analog filmmaker.

Step aside, Barbie, it’s Oppenheimer’s turn in London’s Leicester Square tonight — and Christopher Nolan’s biographical drama is finally ready to detonate.
While buzz was near-radioactive at the U.K. premiere of Nolan’s twelfth feature film on Thursday evening, the possibility of SAG-AFTRA’s actors strike loomed over the red carpet at the Odeon Luxe cinema. The event was moved up an hour only the night before in case a strike action commenced and forced the cast to stay home. Nolan himself, along with Florence Pugh, Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr., were selective with the press. Reporters were warned away from mentioning the impending SAG-AFTRA strike.
With the focus clearly on the film thanks to edict about the strike, Cillian Murphy led the way, admitting he relished the opportunity to impress as Nolan’s frontman after years of collaboration between the pair. “It’s a dream,...

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer detonates in cinemas in one week, marking the arrival of another epic from the director of Tenet, Inception, Memento, and more. Opening alongside Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the 3-hour opus explores the work of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the Father of the Atomic Bomb. Universal Pictures dropped an “Opening Look” at Oppenheimer on Thursday, teasing the nail-biting drama of the U.S. government’s race to build a weapon of mass destruction before the Nazis. The Oppenheimer Opening Look introduces a montage of scenes spanning the film, depicting the science, heartache, and paranoia of building a device that could destroy the world.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, this summer’s Oppenheimer is an IMAX®-shot epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it. Sounds pretty intense, yeah? Well according to Nolan himself in a new chat with Wired, it’s “kind of a horror movie.”
“Some people leave the movie absolutely devastated,” Nolan tells the outlet. “They can’t speak. I mean, there’s an element of fear that’s there in the history and there in the underpinnings. But the love of the characters, the love of the relationships, is as strong as I’ve ever done.”

“It is an intense experience, because it’s an intense story. I showed Oppenheimer to a filmmaker recently who said it’s kind of a horror movie. I don’t disagree.”
Oppenheimer opens in theaters nationwide July 21 from Universal Pictures.

This summer’s highly anticipated film, Oppenheimer, sports an impressive list of cast members. One name on that list that some may not have heard from in a while is Josh Hartnett. Harnett was a rising star in the late 90s and early 2000s, and his name was apt for the time as he was, in fact, a heartthrob that would grace the covers of many magazines. It was his growing fame that actually made the actor want to step back and take a breath. He had been in films like Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down and says he was given offers for action films on the strength of those movies.
One of the films Hartnett made at the peak of his fame was a poorly received action comedy, Hollywood Homicide, which paired him up with Harrison Ford. Ford is beloved but also known for acting like a grump from time to time,...

Universal’s three-minute “Shooting for IMAX” featurette focuses on the use of IMAX cameras to bring audiences the complete Oppenheimer experience. Very little new footage is revealed while writer/director Christopher Nolan, director of photography Hoyte Van Hoytema, and the film’s stars Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr discuss the advantages of filming in IMAX and how immersive the viewing experience becomes when IMAX cameras are used.
“Oppenheimer’s story is one of the biggest stories imaginable. Our film tries to take you into his experience, and IMAX for me is a portal into a level of immersion that you can’t get from other formats,” explained Christopher Nolan.
Oppenheimer mixes black & white scenes with color, and because 65 millimeter black & white didn’t exist, it had to be specially engineered for this production. “We were able to test large format black & white, put it up on a...

Christopher Nolan has been a champion for the most immersive experience that can be had at the cinema. This does not mean he would shoot a movie in 3D like James Cameron, though. Nor does this mean one of those 4Dx theaters where the chairs move with various elements being thrown at the audience during the movie. Nolan’s long-preferred method is the IMAX format. For those that do not know, the IMAX film (which was predominantly used for nature documentaries in the past) is the highest-quality image possible that can be printed, and the picture is expanded in size. Nolan would shoot in this format for his Dark Knight movies, Dunkirk and most recently, Tenet.
Universal Pictures has just released a featurette that shows how the crew shot his upcoming drama, Oppenheimer. The movie is about one of the most significant world-changing events and involves sequences of a grand scale.

After "Tenet" gave us the ultimate spy movie about guys being dudes, Christopher Nolan is once again diving into the world of war thrillers and international espionage (kind of) with "Oppenheimer."
"Oppenheimer," of course, is about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who spearheaded The Manhattan Project, which resulted in the creation of the first successful nuclear bomb. The real Oppenheimer ended up being responsible for shaping the world we live in, but he also ultimately regretted his work because of how it endangered the future of mankind.
Nolan has enhanced each of his films by pushing for practical effects whenever possible, and "Oppenheimer" is no exception. This is a movie that attempted to replicate nuclear detonations without CGI -- so far, there's been no actual confirmation that Nolan didn't just commission a nuclear bomb for the movie. Indeed, Nolan had such a desire to make this as realistic as possible...

The 2024 Oscars race received a jolt on Monday morning with the debut of a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”
In the best teaser yet for Nolan’s upcoming drama about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, title star Cillian Murphy and supporting player Matt Damon as Lt. General Leslie Groves Jr. are given the lion’s share of material. A particularly pithy exchange:
Groves: “Are we saying there’s a chance that when we push that button, we destroy the world?”
Oppenheimer: “The chances are near zero.”
Groves: “Near zero?”
Oppenheimer: “What do you want from theory alone?”
Groves: “Zero would be nice.”
Murphy has appeared in six Nolan films including “Oppenheimer,” but the upcoming Universal release is the first time the “Batman Begins” star has taken a lead role for the filmmaker. “You realize this is a huge responsibility. He was complicated and contradictory and so iconic,...

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer reveals more story details and characters from the biographical drama chronicling the development of the first atomic bomb.
The trailer — which was first shown at CinemaCon and then revealed in theaters before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — shows scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) teaming with General Leslie Groves Jr. (Matt Damon) to assemble a team of scientists during World War II as they try and beat the Nazis in harnessing the destructive power of nuclear energy.

The World War II-set biopic follows Oppenheimer, known as the “father of the atomic bomb,” during a moment in history when he knew that testing the atomic bomb might ignite the atmosphere and destroy the world, but hit the button anyway. “In learning about that story,...

How far should humanity go in the name of science? And how far is too far? These are questions that J. Robert Oppenheimer undoubtedly asked himself when he undertook the task of creating the world’s first atomic bomb, and they’ll undeniably be questions that Christopher Nolan explores in his upcoming film Oppenheimer (with Cillian Murphy in the title role). The man behind arguably the most destructive weapon in human history is the topic of Nolan’s newest project and and Oppenheimer‘s release date is set for this summer.

Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. The psychological thriller is considered by many to be not only one of Hitchcock’s finest movies, but one of the best of all time. The project does have some star power behind it, as Robert Downey Jr. is eyeing the leading role of the former police detective forced to retire after an incident in the line of duty causes him to develop acrophobia and vertigo.
The Vertigo remake is set to be scripted by Steven Knight, the Peaky Blinders creator who recently signed on to write the new Star Wars movie. For better or worse, 2022 has been the year of Florence Pugh.
“Don’t Worry Darling” reached a level of pop culture relevance that most arthouse films can only dream of, with film festival attendees and celebrity gossip addicts hanging on every detail of the rumored feud between Pugh and her director and co-star Olivia Wilde. But while the film’s reviews were mixed, nobody denied that Pugh gave a phenomenal performance in the lead role. Captivating industry observers while having the acting chops to justify the attention is the stuff that movie stars are made of.
Pugh won’t be leaving the limelight any time soon, as her upcoming film slate leaves her well positioned to capitalize on her current momentum. She’s currently working with directors ranging from Christopher Nolan to Denis Villeneuve, and will be seen everywhere from indie dramas to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Nope, “Barbie” isn’t the most anticipated film of 2023, according to writer-director Jordan Peele.
The “Get Out” and “Nope” auteur is counting down the days instead until Christopher Nolan’s nuclear biopic “Oppenheimer” debuts in theaters. During the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, host Josh Horowitz asked “Oppenheimer” cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema, who collaborated with Peele on “Nope,” about what to expect from the black-and-white IMAX film.
“The thing is, it is really hard for me to talk about this film because we simply haven’t really sort of all together agreed what we can say and what we want to say,” Van Hoytema said, “so I’m just going to shut up.”
Peele added, “I don’t work for the film, I don’t have a contract or anything. All I can say is, I am so envious I didn’t get to be on set for this production. The talent is incredible.
