Seven years after making history as America's first double hand transplant recipient, Jeff Kepner still doesn't have functionality in either extremity, he told Time. Kepner, 64, would like to have the non-functional hands removed, as they've made him largely immobile - much more so than his initial prosthetics, which he began using after losing his real hands to sepsis after getting strep throat in 1999. Unfortunately, it's not that easy. "From day one I have never been able to use my hands," he said. "I can do absolutely nothing. I sit in my chair all day and wear my TV out." The...

Gordon Fleming's asbestos removal crew were infected by it in 2001's Session 9, Lance Preston and his ghost investigation team faced it in 2011's Grave Encounters, and soon a group of teenagers will also become immersed in the creepy, haunting, and ultimately mind-bending atmosphere of an abandoned asylum in Marcus Nispel's Exeter (formerly known as Backmask). Featured in our latest round-up, the next film from the director of the Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes has been acquired for U.S. distribution and given a release date. Also included in this go-around is the poster for The Diabolical, a new horror film starring Ali Larter, as well as a look at Super7 and Secret Base's Green Slime Alien soft vinyl figure, going on sale this Friday.

As always, there are biases at play here; my greatest interests are symphonic music, choral music, and piano music, so that's what comes my way most often. There are some paired reviews; the ranking of the second of each pair might not be the true, exact ranking, but it works better from a writing standpoint this way.
1. Brahms: Symphonies Nos. 1-4; Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 Tragic Overture, Op. 81; Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56a; 3 Hungarian Dances; 9 Liebeslieder Waltzes; Intermezzi, Op. 116 No. 4 & Op. 117 No. 1 Gewandhausorchester/Riccardo Chailly (Decca)
It is not easy, at this point in recording history, to match the giants of the baton in a Brahms cycle, but Chailly has done it (this is my fiftieth Brahms cycle, and I have more than another fifty Brahms Firsts, and upwards of thirty each of the other symphonies outside those cycles, so I've got some basis for comparison...

The Saratov Approach is a dramatic thriller about a 1998 kidnapping of two Mormon missionaries in Russia. It entered a limited release on October 9, 2013, in Utah and The Standard-Examiner called it “one of the best in the Mormon film genre”. Yes, it’s a Latter Day Saints themed thriller, but this new trailer has me very curious. The movie documents the 1998 kidnapping of Andrew Lee Propst and Travis Robert Tuttle, two missionaries who were held for ransom from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Saratov Approach is set to be released on January 10th. Watch the trailer below.

It’s hard not to watch this trailer for Vampyre Nation and not get the sense that the makers of the movie watched Daybreakers and wished the film had more to do with characters hunting down those mutant vampire man-bats. And I would agree with them 100% on that point.
Vampyre Nation may not be an Asylum mockbuster of Daybreakers but it sure does sound like it could be.
Bucharest, Romania. The not-too-distant future, but an entirely different city. The human population is dwindling. The vampire population, meanwhile, is exploding. Having emerged from the shadows a decade earlier, vampires now walk openly amongst the human population, as a precarious peace exists between the two. A peace made possible by the introduction of a synthetic blood substitute, dispensed by the Romanian government, making traditional vampire feeding, and preying on humans, no longer necessary. But even so, it's not a peace that everyone is entirely comfortable with.

A music video to support Honor Society's single "Over You" has hit the web. In the footage, Michael Bruno, Jason Rosen, Andrew Lee, and Alexander Noyes are seen rocking to the song in the dining car of a train. The video also shows lead singer Michael being attracted to a blonde beauty.
"Over You" music video was directed by Shane Drake, who previously worked on Paramore's "Decode" and "crushcrushcrush" videos. The song itself is the first single off Honor Society's debut studio album "Fashionably Late", which was made available in U.S. stores on September 15.
In related news, Honor Society are currently embarking on "Fashionably Late Tour" to promote their latest studio album. The tour was kicked off at D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA on September 13 and will be wrapped up at Hershey Park in Hershey, Pa on December 31.
