Parks And Recreation star Adam Scott will make his directorial debut with revenge thriller Double Booked. Here’s what we know so far…
Previously best known for his acting work, Adam Scott has long been a regular fixture on the small screen, perhaps most notably playing Ben Wyatt in Parks And Recreation. He also won a Golden Globe for his performance in Severance, which is currently on its second series at Apple TV+.
Scott is now making his feature directorial debut with revenge thriller Double Booked, in which he will also star. The synopsis reads as follows:
Double Booked follows a successful self-help writer (Scott) and his heavily pregnant wife (Zazie Beetz) who organize a weekend away at a secluded lodge, only to encounter another couple (Sterling K Brown and Alexandra Daddario) at their cabin when they arrive. With a blizzard moving in they are forced to spend the night together,...

Actor Adam Scott, who was recently seen by some movie-goers in Madame Web, has chosen the project he wants to make his feature directorial debut with – and while Scott is probably best known for his performances in comedy projects like Knocked Up, Step Brothers, Parks and Recreation, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Ghosted, and Party Down, he’s not going to be directing a comedy. Instead, his first directorial effort is a revenge thriller called Double Booked, which he’ll also be starring in… and Deadline reports that he has chosen a great supporting cast to surround himself with. His co-stars in this one are Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), and Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus).

Super Bowl Sunday always has a little something for everyone, but this year's big game in Las Vegas went above and beyond in the razzle-dazzle department.
We were, of course, prepared for a celebrity-crammed spectacle due to the luxury booth presence of Travis Kelce's substantially famous girlfriend, but this gridiron rematch between last year's combatants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, brought out more than just arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. The only pop star in that aforementioned argument, Beyoncé, was there with her hip-hop god husband Jay-Z! The world's greatest basketball player, LeBron James, flew in from Los Angeles for the contest! And Paul freakin' Rudd, sporting a bushy freakin' mustache that would've driven Avery Schreiber into a jealous rage, prowled the sidelines pre-game in support of his hometown Chiefs!
But if we're talking true, earth-shaking, knock-you-on-your-keister fame, let there be...

It's not an uncommon practice for actors to create backstories for their characters. Viola Davis, for instance, has said she always writes a biography after reading the script. Before filming "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," director Alfonso Cuarón had Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint write essays about their characters -- with Grint ignoring the assignment, because he figured that's what Ron Weasley would have done. Being an old pro in the business, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that Jeff Goldblum takes a similar approach when creating a character.
Not every character is going to have a detailed history when it comes to the script, after all. And unlike the "Potter" actors, you're not always going to have thousands of pages of books to comb through to help you along the way. This is particularly true of a movie like "Independence Day," which wasn't...

Bill Pullman, star of the 1996 film “Independence Day,” put out a public service announcement urging people to wear their “freedom masks” this 4th of July.
“Hello, America. I may not be your president right now but I’ve got to tell you, the 4th of July is still my favorite holiday and it always will be,” Pullman said in a video posted to YouTube Saturday.
“This Independence Day, I’m going to be celebrating my freedom in a really important way,” he continued. “I’m gonna be wearing my freedom mask every time I go into public places. That’s right, freedom masks. Because if everybody in America agreed to wear one of these going into public places, we’d be a little closer to being free to safely go back to places like bars and restaurants and schools and most importantly movie theaters.”

What would happen if you crossed Demon Seed, Burnt Offerings, and The Legacy? You’d end up with a pretty confusing six hour horror movie I’d imagine, so scratch that. But what would happen if you took those same elements, made it a TV movie, and threw in The Hardy Boys’ Parker Stevenson for good measure? Well, then you’d be watching This House Possessed (1981), a supremely goofy, sublimely entertaining movie of the week that’s low on scares but high on smiles.
Broadcast on Friday, February 6th, 1981 as part of The ABC Friday Night Movie, This House Possessed was up against the CBS juggernaut The Dukes of Hazzard/Dallas, and NBC offered up…oh never mind. We were all watching the Dukes and the Ewings, okay? Is that what you want to hear? Fine. But I suppose there had to be some people who were repulsed at the...

When your sequel doesn’t hit until the same year as the 20th Anniversary Blu-Ray release, you either have a great idea for exploring characters and themes that takes advantage of that delay, or you figure you can suck more money out of something people have had time to forget.
Independence Day: Resurgence is the worst sort of effort toward a grab at money, and is so far on the lazy side of the spectrum that it becomes embarrassing self-parody.
Twenty years after the events that nearly destroyed the world, we find ourselves in hot water again, as the aliens are knocking on our door again. The ships are bigger, merely to emphasize the fact that despite taking advantage of alien technology, we still have no chance of winning, the stakes are higher (well… they’re the same, I guess), and all the dramatic entanglements are powered by the countdown we’re constantly watching.

What do you say about Independence Day 20 years later? That it kicked off the Michael Bay-ification of blockbuster movies by making explosions the real stars of the film (even though Michael Bay had little to do with it)? That it cemented Will Smith as a star and went on to gross over $300 million domestically? You could just say that it's a really solid action sci-fi film. Much of that credit goes to Will Smith (Captain Steve Hiller), whose charisma and chemistry with his various costars elevated Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich's dialogue (depending on which version of the screenplay you read,...

Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion reboot has landed with more cliches than you can throw Shangai at
What must it be like on the inside of Roland Emmerich’s head? Coping with the constant pressure to dream up new and unprecedented catastrophes; negotiating that precarious tipping point at which the cataclysmic loss of human life and infrastructure would effectively rule out a sequel. We probably won’t be seeing the UK in any future Independence Day films: one of the most arresting moments of CGI mayhem involves an alien spaceship scooping up all of what appears to be Shanghai and dumping it on top of London. “Why do they always go for the landmarks?” muses David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum, one of several alumni from the original picture).

Somehow – despite Roland Emmerich’s obsessive focus on Earth’s destruction – Independence Day found a way to bottle raw human fortitude in a way that its sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, clumsily fumbles. In the most generic, fan-servicing, sequelitis-stricken way, this sci-fi doomsday franchise charges back into theaters like a bull in an intergalactic China shop. The entire films is basically one big “Here we go again!” moment on repeat, as Emmerich prays that nostalgia is enough to distract from the nothingness that’s occurring on screen. Look! There’s a heroic poster of Will Smith! Or over there! It’s that crazy doctor who totally should be dead! And Jeff Goldblum! You guys still love him, right?!
Yes, Mr. Emmerich, we do still love Jeff Goldblum – but not when he’s reduced to making silly faces like a rejected Tim & Eric sketch. Granted, I’d pay good money for a...

In the summer of 1996, Roland Emmerich’s “Independence Day” reinvented the alien invasion genre for the blockbuster era, using newfangled digital technology to make a B-movie big enough to bring the whole world together. Its reputation may be overinflated by millennials who subsist on a steady diet of their own petrified kitsch, but Emmerich’s war of the worlds has nevertheless come to represent a type of full-bodied studio spectacle for which we all ought to be nostalgic. In fact, the self-described “master of disaster” seems really pissed at the people who aren’t. His lazy insult of a sequel — threatened since the day the first movie first cast its long shadow over America’s multiplexes — is ultimately nothing more than a giant middle finger to...

20th Century Fox is getting extremely weird with their Independence Day: Resurgence marketing. Their latest effort involves actor Jeff Goldbum morphing into your favorite internet memes. Ok, I say weird but honestly I've been loving what they're doing so far. Especially considering the actual trailers don't have me too excited. First (and probably still best) we had Goldblum having a conversation with his in-film doppelgänger David Levinson. And we can probably count him giving away his workout routine on The Tonight Show too. But now he's been memed. Eleven times over. Take a look at Golbum morphed into some of the most famous internet memes and then head over to MemeResurgence.com to produce and share your own (we've kept their stock dialogue intact for our gallery).

I've always liked Jeff Goldblum, but the marketing campaign for Independence Day: Resurgence is making me absolutely love the guy. His jazz performance is a hell of an entertaining way to spend an hour, this morning Mick wrote about a video in which he attempts to hypnotize you, and now there's this, a showcase for peak Goldblum antics in which the actor appears opposite his ID:r character David Levinson to "prove" they're not the same person.

Aliens invade once again in Independence Day: Resurgence. Ryan reviews another explosive close encounter...
When eager movie-goers queued up around the block for Independence Day in 1996, quite a number of critics were baffled. Here was a film widely criticised for its hackneyed plot and wooden dialogue, which didn’t even pretend to take itself seriously, and yet still the alien invasion-disaster hybrid was breaking attendance records.
"Judging from the summer's record-breaking box-office grosses," one writer moaned, "audiences no longer care - or, more depressing, are incapable of detecting - that the plots of movies don't track."
In many ways, Independence Day set the template for 21st century summer movies. Its event status was trumpeted by a marketing campaign almost as huge as the megalithic alien ships that descended on Earth’s quaking cities. Its multi-strand plot, ensemble cast and panavision destruction made it the unwitting grandfather of such explosive movies as Transformers,...

X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters, and brings with it a predictable level of -- in film -- catastrophic events. The demolishment of iconic monuments has become so old hat that Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson quips, "they like to get the landmarks," in the Independence Day: Resurgence trailer. The unfortunate result of the overuse of grand-scale destruction in film is that both we, the audience, and seemingly the filmmakers themselves have become numb to the intended impact. So much so that director Bryan Singer demonstrated just how tone-deaf both he and the studio had become when they featured Magneto destroying the remains of the Auschwitz concentration camps in X-Men: Apocalypse. It's one thing to drown London bridge for the umpteenth time in a film, but there are certain places that stand sacred. We preserve and honor them because they hold within them the memories that are meant to teach us to be and do better.

One thing is for sure, the aliens of Independence Day have done their research on the famous landmarks of the world, and they have come back to finish the job in the sequel. They already destroyed a bunch of them in the first film, and now they are coming back to destroy even more. These aliens hate the world's landmarks, and they won't stop until they are gone. That's the real overall plot of the Independence Day franchise!
Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson even jokes about it in the trailer saying, "they like to get the landmarks," and in this new series of international posters we see the villainous aliens going after the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and the Marina Bay Sands towers in Singapore. I also included some high resolution photos from the film as well.

Two decades ago, the aliens that populated Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day found themselves on the wrong side of history, during a time when Jeff Goldblum and his cigar-chomping co-pilot Will Smith sent the extra-terrestrials packing in epic fashion. Now, they’re ready to enact their revenge in Independence Day: Resurgence.

Nipping at the heels of today’s epic, five-minute trailer – which essentially presented a roadmap of the sequel’s plot and all of its sci-fi glory – these new stills place a laser focus on the reinvigorated alien threat, who descend on Earth a full two decades after the War of ’96 to enact their revenge.
Indeed, it’s an ancient alien ship that acts as the catalyst to Roland Emmerich’s barnstorming showdown, beaming a distress signal into the far reaches of space and essentially rallying the extra-terrestrial reinforcements. If you’re wanting to get a fairly sizeable taste of the CG-laden carnage that awaits, that aforementioned extended trailer offers up all the story details you’ll need before the sequel graces theaters in little over a month’s time.

But for all of their bravado, complacency creeps through the bleeding-edge defenses when Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson stumbles upon an alien ship – one that just so happens to be transmitting a distress signal to the stars.
What follows is a deluge of cinematic destruction that hews closely to Emmerich’s M.O. in that the world’s monuments are literally torn asunder and, in the spirit of the ’96 original, the fate...

They'll be joined by LIam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, and Sela Ward. Picking up the torch from Paul Feig and his band of Ghostbusters, it is Roland Emmerich’s long-in-development sequel Independence Day: Resurgence that adorns the latest issue of Empire Magazine.
Welcoming the return of Jeff Goldblum’s David Levinson, who now presides over the newfound Earth Space Defense force by the time Resurgence rolls around, the one-sheet also features one of the invading aliens ensnaring Goldblum’s lead with those iconic tentacles. Could the image be teeing up a scene involving Goldblum, the locust-like extra-terrestrial and some good old-fashioned telepathy? We’ll find out soon enough.
That’s because Independence Day: Resurgence is set to loom over Earth’s atmosphere in little over a month’s time, thrusting humanity into another battle against extinction. Even armed with alien tech leftover from the War of 1996, the Esd are facing a tall order to overcome the alien Resurgence – lest they go quietly...

Twenty years ago, when the skies cleared and the governments of the world pulled together to rebuild those famous monuments from the ashes, humanity set aside civil conflicts in the face of a common – and frankly terrifying – enemy.
United by the rousing words of Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore, The War of 1996 left a profound mark on the history books, and in anticipation of this year’s long-in-development sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, a new viral clip documents that global conflict and its devastating fallout.
Spurred by the United Global Defense Unit, by the time Idr rolls around humanity is equipped with advanced weaponry made possible by the alien tech leftover from the failed invasion of ’96. But as the synopsis reads, “we always knew they were coming back.” Only this time, they’ve brought the intergalactic cavalry.

"As you know, it has taken a huge effort to get a big military base on the moon..." 20th Century Fox has released a viral video for Independence Day: Resurgence that features some of the cast and lots of new footage. The video is designed like a news segment from the "United World News" channel, and first takes a look back at the devastating events of 1996, when the aliens first arrived. Then it jumps ahead to a segment with Jeff Goldblum playing David Levinson, now running "Esd" (Earth Space Defense), who discusses the technology they've borrowed to improve their defense systems. In addition, Jessie Usher as Dylan Hiller, Angelababy as Rain Lao, and Liam Hemsworth as Jake Morrison are also featured. This is pretty cool. There has been a Resurgence, have you felt it? Earlier today, 20th Century Fox blew the lid off Earth Day with the second barnstorming trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, Roland Emmerich’s long-awaited sequel that seemingly leaves the door open for future movies as Fox’s rejuvenated sci-fi franchise prepares to lay siege to the summer blockbuster window.
At least that’s according to Jeff Goldblum. Soon to reprise his role as MIT expert David Levinson, Goldblum touched base on the possibility of Independence Day spinning into a full-blown series in an interview with Fandango.
More News From The Web
Of course, early on in development, it was reported that Emmerich hatched plans for two movies – ID Forever Part 1 and Part 2 – though it would appear that, at least for now, the possibility of Resurgence teeing up new movies isn’t off the table.

It's no coincidence that our second look at Independence Day: Resurgence, a movie about the entire world being threatened by an(other) alien attack, comes on Earth Day. It's part of the marketing plan, as an accompanying PSA from Jeff Goldblum (in character as David Levinson) will show you. This time around, we get a lot of more dialogue and exposition than the first trailer gave us. It looks like America is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the planet not being wiped out by aliens, with President Sela Ward patting us all on the back for using the aliens' technology to make cool new stuff. But, oops! It looks like the aliens sent out a distress signal, and it's finally getting a response. Good-bye, London! ("They like to get the landmarks," Levinson comments as the Tower Bridge falls.) Our only hope is, once again, Levinson and now Liam Hemsworth, who is also,...

It might be more a more ironic cross-promotion, but in its defense, Independence Day: Resurgence is probably a movie about saving the Earth. Their latest trailer, released today, came with an email from the studio touting “Just in time for Earth Day!” That’s worth a good giggle. In addition to releasing the action-packed trailer you can watch below, Fox has also launched a promotion with the Google Play store. For a limited time, the original Independence Day will be available for $0.99, with all of Fox’s net proceeds being donated to the Earth Day Network. The promotion came with a new video from Earth Space Defense Director David Levinson: The trailer itself is a cornucopia of destruction porn, as one might expect from director Roland Emmerich. It shows off some of the massive digital set pieces in the long-gestating sequel, plus gives us some insight into who these characters are: Jessie Usher as the son...

It took twenty years, but it's time for payback. The new trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence reveals that, two decades after Earth defeated the alien invasion from Roland Emmerich's original sci-fi actioner, the aliens are back for a do-over — and this time, they're bringing bigger, badder technology. How big? Well, apparently the size of the Atlantic Ocean, and with ships that have their own gravity, if Jeff Goldblum's returning scientist David Levinson is correct. Amid scenes of mass destruction across the globe — "They like to get the landmarks," Goldblum notes as London is decimated —

"She has arrived." Two full decades after the War of 1996, Earth is under fire once more. Roland Emmerich is back at the helm for Independence Day: Resurgence and going by today’s hellish teaser image, the director hasn’t lost his aptitude for full-blown global destruction.
Arriving by way of Empire, the still is essentially a high-res screengrab from the sequel’s Super Bowl trailer, showcasing that alien technology has come an awful long way in twenty Earth years. Whereas Emmerich’s blockbuster original rained destruction down on the planet’s more prominent landmarks, Resurgence will literally blow entire cityscapes sky-high, and it looks as though the Dubai’s Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world – has been relocated to London.
Fending off the new invasion are Liam Hemsworth’s newcomer and Jessie Usher, with the latter on board to play the role of Will Smith’s stepson. Indeed, the actor’s...
