Fabien Riggall believes his company can boost arthouse film distribution in the UK.
Curzon Artificial Eye’s release of The Handmaiden brought in £548,000 at the UK box office over the four-day Easter weekend. Of that total, nearly a third came through Secret Cinema, which reported £159,295 for six preview screenings of Park Chan-Wook’s period mystery.
Secret Cinema founder Fabien Riggall says his company plans to do more preview events.
“We want to do three or four preview runs a year. Festivals are a key part of a release strategy and we also have a lot to offer. We can get people to engage with films that are increasingly hard to release such as foreign-language titles such as Victoria and The Handmaiden.”
Secret Cinema launched in 2007. Secret Cinema X is the strand of the company that previews an upcoming release with participatory evenings where the audience come in costume and interact with actors impersonating their on-screen counterparts on a set...

DC reader Steve Lewis dropped us a line via Twitter alerting us that a fellow Godzilla fan who runs the Astounding Beyond Belief blog made an incredible discovery.
We decided to take a look at it for ourselves, and yes, it does appear that the infamous Shobijan may be present and accounted for during a scene around the 30-second mark in the trailer. We've grabbed multiple screenshots from the scene in question and have them for you below.

I love the art of animation, and it's amazing to see how far things have come and advanced over the years. The industry is changing in terms of technology, but what it all really comes down to is telling good stories. There's been a lot of great animated movies this year, and many of them are up for several awards at the 40th Annual Annie Awards.
Some of the movies nomainated include Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, and Wreck-It Ralph. Out of those films my favorite is a toss up between Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman, those were two pretty incredible films. I think ParaNorman has the edge though.
Some of the other animated properties nominated are Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1, Disney Tron: Uprising, Justice League: Doom, Robot Chicken ‘DC Comics Special', South Park ‘Raising the Bar’, and several others.

Sony says that fire crews are still at its wrecked DVD and CD factory in Enfield, north London. Smoke levels are preventing surveyors from getting in and assessing damage. Rioters broke in to the Sony Dadc Distribution Centre on Monday night and set it ablaze. The studio, which handles physical DVD distribution for indie UK distributors and record companies, says that 25 million discs have been lost in the arson attack. Disney Games titles as well as Sony’s own discs have been hit by the blaze. Sony is remanufacturing 1.5 million discs that need to be shipped urgently from its manufacturing sites elsewhere in the UK and Austria. It is sending out more discs out direct from its UK manufacturing site to reduce shipping delays. And other home-entertainment distributors have also pitched in offering to help. When did Silicon Valley become so obsessed with building cities? Last month it was Cisco’s Svp of strategy Inder Sidhu describing the company’s smart city play as the $36 billion company’s “biggest opportunity.” Then, at the inaugural Techonomy conference a few weeks ago, an all-star roster of techies, VCs, and scientists pondered “cities as solutions.”
Physicist and former Sante Fe Institute president Geoffrey West practically stole the show with his talk on urban metabolisms. Cities are like organisms, he explained, except they grow much faster and much bigger than anything living – in fact, there appears to be no upper limit to their size or propensity for innovation… or disaster. “Urbanization is the problem,” he said, “and it can also be the solution.”
These being Silicon Valley types, it was clear what that solution should be. “Copying 20th century cities in Dubai and Shanghai is crazy,” said former Sony...
