Up until a few years ago, there was a shady little pub here in Brno, Czech Republic, that only had one desirable feature: A six-foot statue of the lovable Rockbiter creature from "The NeverEnding Story." I would even take people there to suffer bad beer just so we could marvel at that unexpected monument to Wolfgang Petersen's dark fantasy adventure. It wasn't the only legacy of the film's enduring popularity around here; Limahl's title song, which was a hit single across Europe, is still played on regular rotation on the local radio station. It is one of the many benefits of living in the Czech Republic.
"The NeverEnding Story," based on the first half of Michael Ende's epic fantasy novel, was Petersen's next project after spending three years making his tense U-boat drama, "Das Boot." The German director received an Oscar nomination for his troubles but wanted...

Forget conquering hills, Kate Bush's 1985 song "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)" has been climbing the charts since it turned up as Max's favorite song in "Stranger Things" season four - and now, it's breaking records. "Stranger Things" has been utilizing classic '80s songs since the series began, but "Running Up That Hill" has resonated with fans on a whole new level that even the famously private Bush can't ignore.
But it wasn't easy to get the song on the show. A group of Warner Music executives spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about how they landed the "Running Up That Hill" deal in an Aug. 22 interview. "It's not like advertising where we get a very quick 'Can we use this song?' and we have to work out if we can and if they can afford it," said Tim Miles, senior VP sync for the UK...

Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” has been given “a whole new lease of life” with its starring role in a crucial scene of season four of Netflix’s Stranger Things, the music star said in June. Soon after, the song topped charts in multiple countries, setting records in the process.
The success of the integration has put a renewed spotlight on sync (or synchronization) deals, which place music into TV series, films, video games or other content, and which have been energized by, among other things, the growth of streaming video services. (In 2021, sync royalties for licensing songs in media including TV shows and movies totaled 302.9 million, up 14 percent from 265.2 million a year earlier.)

This article contains Stranger Things spoilers.
Look, we know Eddie Munson, the Stranger Things character played wonderfully by actor Joseph Quinn, already sports the magnificent hair of an ‘80s guitar player, so his bat-distracting guitar solo in the season 4 finale is completely believable on its own. However, it turns out that hints about his shredding ability were only able to be dropped into earlier episodes because of production delays relating to Covid-19 according to co-showrunner Matt Duffer, making Eddie’s Metallica homage that much more epic.
As with any television show, the pace of production is normally quite grueling, and details that show up later in the season can’t always be hinted at early on. “On a typical Stranger Things season, we’re writing the scripts while the show is also in production, which is highly stressful,” says Duffer. “It’s good in a way because it feels as...

Netflix’s Stranger Things is helping revive a blast from the past on the heels of the show’s Season 4 premiere on Friday. Kate Bush’s 1985 single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is currently No. 1 on the iTunes chart.
The song first appears in the premiere episode and plays a significant role in Max’s (Sadie Sink) story.
“Running Up That Hill” was the first single off Bush’s album Hounds of Love that would go on and become her biggest hit of the era. The track was originally titled “A Deal With God” but was changed by her label for fear that it would be blacklisted in religious countries like Italy, France, and Australia.
This isn’t the first time Stranger Things helped revive a song, following its use of the theme song to the hit fantasy film The NeverEnding Story by Limahl last season. YouTube...

Just a few days after the trophy for best original song was given out at the Oscars comes news of the first significant new original song of this movie year. The end-titles theme for the upcoming Pixar film “Onward” has been recorded and co-written by multiple Grammy winner Brandi Carlile, Disney announced Wednesday.
The song will be released simultaneously with the full soundtrack, out digitally Feb. 28 in advance of the film’s bow in theaters March 6.
Carlile’s announcement of the new song on her social media got responses from some famous friends. “Hello Oscar,” wrote Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello. “Come and join the club!” responded Bernie Taupin, who won the Academy Award three nights earlier for co-writing Elton John’s “I’m Gonna Love Me Again.”

Spoilers for Stranger Things season three lurking ahead, Fyi.
Stranger Things season three gives us a lot to love: the nonstop bickering between Steve and Robin, Erica's one-liners, Hopper and Joyce's sexual tension, exploding rats . . . the list goes on. But at the top of my own personal list of favorite moments from the third outing of Netflix's sci-fi hit is the duet at the very end of the season between Dustin and his new, totally real girlfriend, Suzie.
We hear all about the girlfriend Dustin met while attending his sleep-away science camp, Camp Know Where, pretty much as soon as he returns home. According to Dustin, she's crazy smart, hotter than '80s icon Phoebe Cates, and doesn't mind that his teeth haven't fully grown in yet. The only catch is that she lives in Utah with a very strict Mormon family who would never approve of their relationship,...

I’m a little nostalgic this week because The Neverending Story was on television. Those of you who have seen it know that it’s rarely on cable so when you catch it, it’s a precious moment in your life. And you can’t tell me you’re head’s not bopping when Limahls’ Neverending Story track starts playing. But there’s something very sad about all of this. When you actually see the video for this song, you’re going to be extremely disappointed. Before I saw this video, I could swear the person singing the theme song to The Neverending Story was a woman. The

Helen Flanagan has been given sleeping pills to help her cope on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'. The former 'Coronation Street' actress - who had to do seven Bushtucker Trials in a row last week - has been struggling to deal with the Australian jungle, according to her ex-campmate Limahl, who believes the blonde beauty was ''ill-equipped'' to manage the experience. The Kajagoogoo singer told the Daily Star newspaper: ''One night she whispered that she was given sleeping tablets as she was that stressed out. She is in crisis. ''Poor Helen told me she was cracking up in...

Limahl found taking part in 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' ''a test''. The Kajagoogoo singer became the second person to leave the Australian camp last night (22.11.12) after finding himself in the bottom two alongside Hugo Taylor, and admitted the experience was among the toughest things he had ever done. Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec, he said: ''It really is a test. Being away from home comforts, so far away from loved ones. It's a test of other personalities. That was the biggest test really.'' The 'Too Shy' hitmaker - who entered the camp several days after the...

Limahl has become the second contestant to be voted off I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! The 53-year-old '80s singer, real name Christopher Hamill, is most well-known for being in pop group Kajagoogoo. Asked by presenters Ant & Dec how he felt after being voted out of the competition, Limahl quipped: "Well it's a complete surprise. Where was the gay vote? What happened?" Limahl, along with chef Rosemary Shrager, joined the show late. He joked: "Well I came in late to Kajagoogoo and they fired me from that!" Dec then joked that it was "history repeating itself". The Kajagoogoo singer - who was known for his mullet back in the 1980s - is said to comb his hair up to 100 times a day, according to his boyfriend Steve Evans. He alternates them every other week. "I've been noticing his hair has been changing in the jungle. (more)...

Limahl was ''really, really surprised'' to be voted off 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!'. The Kajagoogoo singer was convinced the public would keep him on the ITV1 reality show because he only arrived on day five and was having fun, so he found it ''quite a shock'' when he became the second person to leave the Australian jungle-based programme yesterday (22.11.12). Hugo Taylor has admitted to nerves ahead of his first bushtucker trial on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!. The former Made in Chelsea cast member told his campmates that he will try and put aside his desire for cleanliness and "embrace the disgusting" during the 'Savage Sewer' challenge. "He was panicking, because there was one spider on him," said fellow competitor Linda Robson. "So he's a bit shaken up [by that], and then to be up for the trial, you could see he was getting really nervous." Limahl added that Taylor has "got to face his own demons" during the challenge. "I can tell it's going to be absolutely downright dirty filthy, and [I'll have to] abandon my priority for cleanliness," said Taylor. "You've got to embrace the (more)...

In the 'Rodent Run' trial, Flanagan demanded to leave almost instantly, leaving her camp without food once again. After the former Coronation Street star returned to the camp, she told her irritable campmates: "I couldn't do it. I just completely froze." Aware of some tension, Flanagan asked the camp: "Is anyone p***ed off with me, and wants to talk about anything? I just want everyone to understand because I did get some looks." Of the many messages people tried to impart to kids in the 80s, one was put across in such an extraordinary way that it couldn’t fail to make an impact. More important than learning not to suffocate in abandoned fridges or avoid climbing electricity pylons to collect some kid’s kite, was the lesson of 1984’s The Neverending Story. That message? Do what you dream.
It’s a bit suspect as advice goes. Taken literally, doing what you dream not only seems ill-advised, but would require incredible financial resources. People are bound to feel uncomfortable about all those naked public transport journeys, too. The whole thing just seems impractical.

The veteran German film writer and producer died earlier this week aged 61. We look back over his career in clips
The sudden death of Bernd Eichinger has left German cinema reeling, as arguably its most powerful and influential figure is no longer around. Eichinger started writing and directing in the early 70s New German Cinema ferment, but really made his mark as a producer – his first serious credit was on the 1975 movie The Wrong Movement, directed by Ngc wunderkind Wim Wenders. The Wrong Movement is one of those odd Wim Wenders road movies featuring Rüdiger Vogler, made in between Alice in the Cities and Kings of the Road, that were so bafflingly influential at the time. (Try watching Chris Petit's Radio On, you'll see what I mean.)
But Eichinger's production career didn't take proper wing until the New German Cinema wave was all but over. In 1978 he bought an established distribution company,...

i09 are reporting an interview with producer Producer Frank Marshall that suggests we may well see a new version of 80s kids classic The Neverending Story in the not-especially-near future. The phrase that makes us particularly optimistic is "we love the book". Although the rights are still tied up, it seems that Marshall has in mind a more faithful adaptation of Michael Endes' novel than Wolfgang Petersen's original, which only covered half the book. Structurally, the novel does actually lend itself to adapting as more than one movie, but the original sequels went their own way.The original also dropped some major characters, presumably largely due to FX restrictions that would be easily surmountable today. So it's some way off, and may never happen at all, but it's an intriguing prospect nonetheless. Although if it doesn't feature the Limahl song, we're not interested.*Marshall also stated that Jurassic Park 4 is now unlikely.

Remember "The Neverending Story?" I honestly remember Limahl's pop song from the film more than the movie :happy
But I heard that the film will get the reboot treatment from "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" folks (the Kennedy/Marshall Co.) and Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way production.
Right now, both parties are in talks with Warner Bros. which acquired the rights to the franchise.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new film "will examine the more nuanced details of the book that were glossed over in the first pic." Ooooh, nuanced, I'm so there!
I almost forgot that Wolfgang Petersen directed the original 1984 film after he made the fantastic "Das Boot."
Oh and did you know that the source material of the film is a German book written by Michael Ende called "Die Unendliche Geschichte?"
So why didn't they ask the "99 Luftballons" singer Nena to sing the original song?...

On the same day, it was revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that The NeverEnding Story and Totall Recall would both be remade. The Total Recall update is from producer Neal Moritz and Columbia, while Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way - which has a jones for remakes all of a sudden - is eyeing NeverEnding.
First of all, how can a story that has no end spawn sequels? There was more than one NeverEnding Story back in the day, and I never understood that logic. Secondly, does the remake mean we'll get another bitchin' theme song from Limahl? You remember, the lead singer from Kajagoogoo?
