Garnered fame in the UK in 1958 when he took over the role of Captain Queeg from Hollywood star Paul Douglas in a live TV broadcast of 'The Caine Mutiny Court Martial'. Douglas had come to London especially to repeat his stage success in the role, but was taken ill (heart disease would claim his life the following year). Linder had been hired by the BBC as his understudy in the role, and did the live performance on less than 24 hours' notice. He won rave reviews, and subsequently enjoyed large roles in British TV for many years.
