Asian Pacific American Heritage Month may have ended, but the Los Angeles-based theatre organization East West Players (Ewp) continues to celebrate Asian and Asian American by announcing their 54th season which they have dubbed “We Are the Ones We Are Waiting For.” Ewp’s 2019/2020 season takes place from Summer 2019 through Spring 2020 and consists of four productions, including a Los Angeles Premiere, a West Coast Premiere, and co-productions with The Fountain Theatre and Pasadena Playhouse. The forthcoming season includes The Great Leap written by award-winning playwright Lauren Yee and directed by Emmy-nominated Bd Wong as well as Hannah and the Dread Gazebo, written by Jiehae Park, directed by Jennifer Chang.
Ewp is the longest-running professional theatre of color and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work. Coming off of its successful run of Mamma Mia! for the 53rd season, is ready to bring more inclusive, Asian-centered stories.

hollywoodnews.com: Today Film Independent, the non-profit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced its 2010 Los Angeles Film Festival award winners at a brunch at Chaya Downtown. Audience award winners will be announced tomorrow afternoon at the Closing Night film, Despicable Me. The Los Angeles Film Festival, presented by The Los Angeles Times, with its central hub at L.A. Live, began Thursday, June 17 and will end on Sunday, June 27.
“There were thousands of movie fans at the festival this year, discovering new stories from our talented filmmakers,” said Film Independent Executive Director Dawn Hudson. “We are delighted to have the support of the Los Angeles film-going community for these films and their creators”
The two top juried awards of the Los Angeles Film Festival are the Narrative Award and Documentary Award, each carrying an unrestricted $50,000 cash prize, funded by Film Independent, for the winning film’s director.

Rainstorm Entertainment and helmer Steve Anderson are teaming on the feature-length project Fuck, an examination of the four-letter word. According to the filmmakers, Robert Altman, Paul Mazursky, Sandra Tsing Loh and First Amendment attorney Robert Corn-Revere will be interviewed for the film. "This film will be an honest look at the word and will make room for all opinions to be heard," said Anderson, who is producing for his Mudflap Films banner. The film is being executive produced by Gregg Daniel and Richard Katz of Rainstorm Entertainment and co-produced by Bruce Leiserowitz in association with North by Northwest Entertainment.
