- In hear early years, attended the Central School of Art and Design where she took saxophone lessons. She then worked as a go-go dancer with the Radio One Roadshow, toured Italy with a West Indian soul band, and played saxophone for Bob Flag's Balloon and Banana Band and for an all-girl cabaret trio, the Sensations. She also joined the band the Diversions, a funk group that put out three singles and an album on Polydor Records, without success, and shortly afterwards wrote the lyrics to Marc Cerrone euro disco single "Supernature".

- Longstanding animal advocate and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) ambassador. In 1986, she released "Don't Kill the Animals", a single with Nina Hagen. In 1989 for the promotion of her album-- March, all three of her tours culminated with benefit concerts for PETA.
- Her hit single-- "New Toy" was written by Thomas Dolby. Dolby penned the song specifically for Lovich, after seeing her perform live. (1981)
- Contributed saxophone on Tom Verlaine's "Days on the Mountain", a track off his 1982 album-- 'Words from the Front'. (1982)
- Co-wrote with Les Chappell and Chris Judge Smith and performed Mata Hari, a play/musical at the Lyric Hammersmith, London, October/November 1982. (1982)
- Andy Scott (of the band The Sweet) co-wrote the lyrics to "Wonderland", the initial single off Lovich's 1989 album-- 'March'.
