It used to be, movies surprised us when we took our seats. We didn’t have so many sources for news and trailers a decade or so back. On Tuesdays, Warner Bros screened new films after hours and one night, the DC Comics crew filed in to see an animated feature called The Iron Giant. We didn’t know much about it or Brad Bird, the man behind it.
We were utterly charmed. None of us knew Ted Hughes’ The Iron Man book it was based on but found the 1950s setting perfect, and the old style animation well-done. Best, it had heart and soul and humor and a robot who wants to be Superman. What’s not to love?
Warner moved the release date so late in the process that tie-ins missed the opening and the marketing wasn’t what it should have been. As a result, this modern day classic withered and vanished.

If you blinked, you would have missed the return of Brad Bird’s The Iron Giant to theaters last year with its Signature Edition that included additional scenes. Now, the remastered version of the film will be coming to Blu-ray on September 6th, along with Ultimate Collector’s Edition.
Within the Signature Edition Blu-ray will be copies of both the Signature Edition and an hi-def version of the original theatrical cut. In addition to director’s commentary on the theatrical cut, an alternate opening, and other bonus content, a documentary titled “The Giant’s Dream” chronicles the making of The Iron Giant.
“The Giant’s Dream” is the dramatic story about a rare moment in movie history that allowed a first-time director to make one of the world’s greatest animated films, “The Iron Giant.” Using stylized animatics, archival footage, original concept art, and revealing interviews, The Giant...

Exclusive: Todd Hoffman, who at ICM Partners built a strong business repping writers as well as intellectual property storehouses like The New York Times, 60 Minutes and New York magazine, has launched the management/production company Storied Media Group. Hoffman, who left ICM over the summer after a long run there, brings with him a stable of writer clients that include Emmy-winning Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, Nebraska co-writer Bob Nelson, Moneyball‘s Stan Chervin, playwright-writer-director Stephen Belber (Management), Girl In Progress scribe Hiram Martinez and Ad Jeffrey Lynch. He also brings with him the above-mentioned publications as well as 60 Minutes Sports, Public Radio International, The McClatchy Company and Say Media. The idea behind the latter is to make outlets like Nyt, 60 Minutes and New York magazine’s partners in option deals that are made for content originated by the publications. I’ve always found Hoffman to be one of the smarter guys in this niche.

DreamWorks Animation has announced that Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, Alec Baldwin and Isla Fisher will voice the 2012 DreamWorks Animation 3D film Rise of the Guardians. We've known about the Dreamworks Animation adaptation of William Joyce's book series The Guardians of Childhood for some time [1]. The book series, called "a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytale characters" involves the world's five unlikeliest heroes - Jack Frost, North (aka Santa), Bunnymund (the Easter Bunny), Tooth (the Tooth Fairy), and Sandy (the Sandman) - who must band together to stop an ancient spirit called Pitch (the Boogeyman) from plunging the world into eternal darkness. Of course, the characters have been "somewhat renamed and massively re-imagined". Joyce's work inspired Disney's Meet The Robinsons. Variety [2] reports that Law will play Pitch (the Boogeyman), Pine will voice Jack Frosty, Jackman is Bunnymund (the Easter Bunny), Baldwin is North (Santa Claus) and Fisher plays...
