“Que nos canten otra” — “Let’s have them sing us another” — chuckled a middle-aged señora, heels in hand, as she made her way out of the L.A. Memorial Coliseum Thursday night, Aug. 18. The clock was nearing midnight, and legendary Mexican band Los Bukis had just walked — or in the case of one member, rolled — off stage following a 33-song set filled with their romantic ballads and danceable cumbias.

Featuring footage of Gray’s playfully practical works, this layered and interesting study of the architect and designer stands up well
Although this is screening at select venues as a companion piece to director Mary McGuckian’s drippy biopic The Price of Desire, Marco Antonio Orsini’s documentary represents a far more interesting and densely layered exploration of the life and legacy of architect and furniture designer Eileen Gray. For a start, it covers all the same basic biographical stuff: Gray’s bisexuality, her long romantic relationship and design collaboration with Jean Badovici, which itself evolved into a sort of fraught, creative menage a trois with the architect Le Corbusier, and then the withdrawal from public life that cloaked her reputation in obscurity until scholars rediscovered her work later. But what makes this even more compelling is the supporting art-historical input from its numerous interviewees (I developed a particular soft...

Mexican beauty queen, Maria Susana Flores Gamez, 20, was killed in a shootout between an alleged drug trafficking gang and Mexican military patrolmen.
According to a report by the AP, Gamez was traveling with the drug gang when the gun battle took place.
"She was with the gang of criminals, but we cannot say whether she participated in the shootout," says state prosecutor Marco Antonio Higuera. "That's what we're going to have to investigate."
An assault rifle was found nearby Gamez' body.
This is reportedly the third incident linking beauty pageant contestants in Mexico to violent drug gangs. A critically acclaimed 2011 film, "Miss Bala," centered on the surprising connection. The fictional movie won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
A non-fiction book related to the same theme was published in 2009 called "Miss Narco." The author, Javier Valdez, says Gamez' tragic end is "a recurrent story."

We’ve just learned that both properties in Brookville, NY are in Marc’s name — does that mean J.Lo better start packing?
Is Jenny movin’ down the block? J.Lo and Marc Anthony are splitting after seven years of marriage and this divorce will be anything but simple. HollywoodLife.com has obtained copies of both deeds of J.Lo and Marc’s adjacent homes in Brookville, Long Island New York — and they’re worth a combined $5.75 million!
We can tell you that both homes are in Marc’s name — actually his birth name: Marco Antonio Muniz. The first home was bought for $3.7 million in 2000 before he and Jennifer were married in 2004. Then four years later, Marc and Jennifer splurged and bought the 2.24-acre property next door for $2.05 million. That too is in Marc’s name.
The second home which is pictured above, is a five bedroom, 4 and a half bath Colonial.

When NBC's Trauma series was first announced, more than a few TV viewers were reminded of the 1970s Emergency! TV show. Trauma Executive Producer Dario Scardapane says that's not a coincidence.
Emergency! revolves around a Los Angeles team of devoted paramedics, doctors, nurses, and firemen who are quick to respond when there's an accident or disaster. The cast includes Robert Fuller, Julie London, Bobby Troup, Randolph Mantooth, Kevin Tighe, Tim Donnelly, Mike Stoker, Marco Lopez, Michael Norell, and Ron Pinkard.
The series ran for six seasons on NBC, from 1972 until 1977. It was cancelled after 122 installments but members of the cast returned in five made-for-tv movies between 1978 and 1979.
In two of the TV movies, some of the characters visit San Francisco and one of the movies involves two airplanes crashing over a residential neighborhood. Up until...

Dwell, the design magazine, announces winners of its open competition to redesign a hanger, ironing board, and coffee mug.
Recently, Dwell held Innovate It!, a competition challenging all comers to redesign three everyday objects that you'd think couldn't really be improved upon: The clothes hanger, the coffee mug and the ironing board. The entrants didn't disappoint, and the overall winners were just announced. Here are the winning designs.
The Memory Hook by Marco Antonio Guardarrama Favela and Andres Felipe Carreño solves the pesky problem of how to hang pants without them sliding off the hanger, or getting a deep crease from those thick wooden and wire pants fasteners. Made of injection molded polypropylene--a strong, light and cheap plastic--the hanger has a slit for pants:

Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore in Blindness
Photo: Miramax Blindness is a film about the human spirit and it has never looked so ugly. Seriously, Blindness presents a second coming of the concentration camp and it isn't pretty. A mysterious rash of blindness is infecting people and they are rounded up and quarantined so as not to infect others. Food is dropped off and the members of these closed off camps are forced to fend for themselves. Make due and if you die we don't care seems to be the motto as armed guards stand watch and will fire at their own discretion. The situation escalates and a happy ending is nowhere in sight and to say the film ever reaches any real sense of happiness (or sense of justice) is a serious stretch in the definition of the word. The film is shot from the perspective of the infected...
