Synapse Films has already done some of the most impressive home media work of the 2010s with their stunning 4K restoration of Dario Argento's Suspiria, which was released on Blu-ray last year following its theatrical release. And they're not done yet, as they're releasing their 4K restoration of the film on 4K Ultra HD this November.
Exclusively announced by Rue Morgue, Suspiria will be released on 4K Ultra HD on November 19th. Here's what President of Synapse Films, Don May, Jr. told Rue Morgue's Michael Gingold about the latest version of their phenomenal restoration:
“Suspiria is the ultimate genre film to make the jump to Uhd. With the beautiful color palette and directional audio, there was no better candidate to set the standard for older catalog titles for this new 4K format. We went back to the original 4K files and basically started over, reconfiguring the theatrical Dci-P3 color...

Having been shaken to my core by the Goblin score while watching the 4K restoration of Suspiria at this year's Flashback Weekend in Chicago, I highly recommend you seek out the remastered screening if it plays anywhere near you (or several states away—it's that good). If you can't make it to one of the screenings, though, it's coming out on a collectible SteelBook Blu-ray from Synapse Films, and DiabolikDVD.com has revealed the official release date.

Sergio Martino was a journeyman Italian director who averaged around three films a year into the early nineties and who worked in many different genres including documentaries (Naked and Violent), spaghetti westerns (A Man Called Blade), poliziotteschi (The Violent Professionals), sex comedies (Sex with a Smile), and action films (The Great Alligator; Slave of the Cannibal God; 2019: After the Fall of New York). But this blue-collar filmmaker is arguably most famous for his early seventies gialli such as The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, The Case of the Scorpion’s Tail, All the Colors of the Dark, Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key, and Torso. Each of these gialli films are–rightly so–considered genuine classics of the genre and fans of these films each have their favorite Sergio Martino giallo. However, his final giallo of this period (he...

Sergio Martino’s The Suspicious Death Of A Minor (1975) will be available on Blu-ray September 26th from Arrow Video
In the wake of the success of Dario Argento’s ground-breaking giallo The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, numerous other directors stepped forward to try their hand at these lurid murder-mysteries. At the forefront was Sergio Martino (The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, Torso), whose sensual 70s thrillers starring Edwige Fenech and George Hilton are widely celebrated as some of the best the genre has to offer. The final of Martino’s six gialli, The Suspicious Death of a Minor combines conventional giallo trappings with elements of the then flourishing ‘poliziotteschi’ crime thrillers. Claudio Cassinelli (What Have They Done to Your Daughters?) stars as undercover cop Paolo Germi, on the trail of a Milanese criminal outfit following the brutal murder of an underage prostitute. But a killer-for-hire is also on the prowl,...

The Horror Legacy of Wes Craven Exhibit Details: “Wes Craven has been feeding our collective horror consciousness since 1972, when his first feature, “The Last House on the Left,” debuted. In his career, Wes has created some of the most memorable moments in horror cinema, from the torture scene in “The Serpent and the Rainbow,” to the Johnny Depp’s explosive scene in “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” to the first glimpse of Michael Berryman’s savagery in “The Hills Have Eyes.

Without a doubt, Suspiria is Dario Argento’s best film (some of you may not feel the same, but I stand behind my choice), and one of the most atmospheric and artistic films ever made in the horror genre. It is the first in Argento’s “The Three Mothers” trilogy, which also includes Inferno and The Mother Of Tears. Argento was at the top of his proverbial game when directing both Suspiria and Inferno as they defy everything you've come to expect from horror films. Not only are they brimming with suspense and incredibly stylized violence, they are absolutely beautifully filmed.
Suspiria defines the horror film as a work of visual art. Scenes are lit with bright reds, greens, and blues making them look more like moving paintings than film. It's a masterpiece of visual filmmaking. Suspiria also includes one of the most memorable soundtracks of all time. Goblin, who...

The House By The Cemetery
Stars: Catriona MacColl, Paolo Malco, Ania Pieroni, Giovanni Frezza, Giovanni De Nava | Written by Lucio Fulci, Giorgio Mariuzzo, Dardano Sacchetti | Directed by Lucio Fulci
Lucio Fulci sure had a way with films, especially his “Gates of Hell” trilogy. Arrow Video now complete their Blu-Ray release of the trilogy with The House by the Cemetery (the other two being City of the Living Dead and The Beyond) and what a release. With an excellent picture quality and a disk full of extras this could arguably be the best way to experience the film, other than on the big screen of course.
The House by the Cemetery starts off by throwing blood and gore at you then changes tone with a Shining style warning to a boy from a picture of a little girl at the window of the titular house not to enter it. In a...

It’s time for another update from our friends at Arrow Video, this time previewing their <ay 2012 releases which include the long-awaited Blu-ray release of the House By the Cemetary and the ArrowDrome release of The Exterminator.
The House by the Cemetery (Arrow Video) Limited Edition Blu-ray
You may have just mortgaged your life! Shock gore master Lucio Fulci’s The House by the Cemetery is one of the finest typically single-minded exercises in zombie terror. Its just a shame no-one told the Boyle family who move into a gothic style house (by a cemetery) with a bloody past and a guts spraying future, what is yet to come! You’d think they’d twig given the basement door is nailed shut that they should get the hell out. Instead they stay long enough to discover their zombified non rent-paying lodger, the cellar-dwelling, flesh-hungry Dr Freudstein and boy is he pissed!

If Rock and Shock 2011 doesn't get here soon Glenn Ciano is going to burst. Why is that, you ask? Because Glenn makes his feature film directorial debut with Inkubus, and the film will be having its world premiere this Saturday night at Rock and Shock 2011 in Worchester, Ma and he can't wait to unleash Inkubus on the unsuspecting world.
Headlining a film schedule that includes Chillerama at 5pm and I Am Nancy (introduced by Nancy herself, Heather Langenkamp) at 7pm Inkubus is slotted at the prime 9pm position and will be introduced by director Glenn Ciano and producer Chad A. Verdi.
"Inkubus is a hardcore old-school horror flick," Ciano said. "We want to get out there and deliver a movie to fans we feel they've been waiting 25 years for." And, following their Fans First philosophy (check out the logo for the concept below), The Lab (as Ciano's team calls themselves...

Rock and Shock 2011 may still be four months away, but the guest list is already taking shape quite nicely. As always, it's one hell of a delightful convention - especially for those of us in or around the Massachusetts area. About time we have something awesome happening in our neck of the woods.
This year the convention is happening from October 14 - 16 at the Dcu Center & The Palladium in Worcester, Ma. Guests include Robert Englund, Lance Henriksen, Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Sean Patrick Flanery (Saw 3D), Gary Busey, Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Bill Moseley (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2), Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead), Barbara Magnolfi (Suspiria), Camille Keaton (I Spit on Your Grave), Kane Hodder (Jason himself!), and Sarah French as well as horror author Joe Knetter.
Pretty stellar lineup in this horror fan's opinion. Watch this space for more to come,...

This past Memorial Day, members of The Night Crew podcast were invited to act as panelists and moderators for the annual horror media convention known as Crypticon Seattle.
Held in the SeaTac Hilton and lasting three days, this multi-media event has always delivered the goods as far as vendors, guests, and programming is concerned and this year was no exception. What follows is a day-by-day, hour-by-hour diary of sorts of the events… at least the ones I was involved in.
Friday:
The day is an atypically warm one in Seattle as I arrived at the convention with my crew. We check into the hotel and immediately head out to get our badges. Walking into the exhibition hall, there is already a line of ticket-holders waiting to get in, dressed in the usual horror convention attire of jeans, horror-themed tee-shirts, and costume. We get our badges and I meet up with my Night Crew compatriots,...

Nathan Hanneman, editor-in-chief of one of the premiere horror magazines on the shelf, Horrorhound, knows how to put together a convention.
Horrorhound Weekend (Hhw) is the magazine's twice a year convention. It is usually held alternately in Cincinnati - the magazine's base of operations - and Indianapolis, and has been gaining much notoriety since they kicked the first one off in July of 2007. He has really outdone himself this time. With the Cincinnati convention having just wrapped up last weekend there is no rest for the weary as it has been announced that none other than Horror icon and one of the genre's greatest directors, Dario Argento, will be appearing at the con in Indianapolis, March 25-27 2011.
As if that wasn't enough to make a horror fan drool all over their keyboard it has been further announced that it is now a full fledged Suspiria reunion with the additions of Barbara Magnolfi and Stefania Casini.
