Exclusive: Alfred Molina has been set to make his feature directorial debut on Lilian, an adaptation of the Jill Gascoine novel. Amy Lowe Starbin (Kelly and Cal) is writing the script. The indie film is being backed by Cannonball Productions.
The plan is to begin production in Los Angeles in the fall, with Sean Hanish and Paul Jaconi-Biery producing through their Cannonball Productions banner. It will be executive produced by Kelly Kahl, Molina and Derek Beamer.
The film focuses on Jessica, who survives a battle with cancer, leaves her husband and grown children in England to visit a friend in the United States, in hopes of rediscovering the joy of life. Once there, she unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with another woman.

Aimee Garcia, the lead in CBS’ upcoming adaptation of “Rush Hour,” is joining Jacki Weaver and Alfred Molina in the indie drama, “Sister Cities,” TheWrap has learned. The film, which is based on the play by Colette Freedman, follows four estranged sisters who reunite after their mother’s alleged suicide. Garcia will play Sarah, the lesbian girlfriend of one of the sisters, named Austin (Jess Wexler). Weaver stars as the mother. Co-stars include Amy Smart, Troian Belissario, Tom Everett Scott and Kathy Baker. Sean Hanish is directing and producing for Cannonball Productions. Paul Jaconi-Biery and Eleonore Dailly are producing, while Molina and CBS.

The Los Angeles Film Festival has announced the world premiere of Richard Linklater's Bernie as the opening night film for the 2011 festival.
The film will kick off the festival on June 16 at Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 at L.A. Live. It is written by Skip Hollandsworth and director Linklater and stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey.
The film follows a beloved mortician (Black) from a small Texas town, even winning over the town's richest, meanest widow (MacLaine). Even after Bernie commits a horrible crime, people still will not utter a bad word against him.
