The Emmys paid their final respects tonight to dozens of industry notables who died over the past year, including 10-time Emmy-winning writer-producer Steven Bochco, who employed half the town on such shows as Hill Street Blues, La Law and NYPD Blue; five-time Emmy-winner Anthony Bourdain, whose suicide shocked his friends and fans; and three-time winning actress and humanitarian Nanette Fabray. Sen. John McCain also was honored, as was Neil Simon and Aretha Franklin, whose moving rendition of “Amazing Grace” was played throughout.
Presented by Tina Fey, the In Memoriam portion of the show also paid tribute to dozens of actors including Burt Reynolds, Rose Marie, Jim Nabors, Della Reese, Jerry Van Dyke, Charlotte Rae, Bill Daily and David Cassidy. Bruce Margolis, a longtime 20th Century Fox Television production executive and television producer, died on February 16 after a battle with cancer. Fox studio executive and TV producer Bruce Margolis (“Star”) died last month following a battle with cancer. He was 64. Margolis passed away on Feb. 16 at Citrus Valley Hospice in West Covina, California. Over the course of his impressive career, Margolis oversaw “Bones,” “24” and “Prison Break” for Fox among other series. Twentieth Century Fox Television has signed Bruce Margolis to a multiyear overall deal as a producer. His first project under the contract will be to co-executive produce Lee Daniels’ “Empire” follow-up, “Star.” Slated for midseason, the drama begins production in Atlanta this summer.
