Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal as the club look to replace Lukasz Fabianski, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Fabianski, who started Arsenal’s Fa Cup final win over Hull City, is set to leave the club on a free in the summer after rejecting a contract extension.
It leaves Arsene Wenger in need of a new back-up goalkeeper, with Cardiff’s Marshall reportedly viewed as the ideal man to to provide cover for Wojciech Szczesny.
Marshall enjoyed a brilliant season with Cardiff, earning plaudits for his performances despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The Scottish international only signed a new deal with Cardiff in February, tying him to the Bluebirds until 2018.
That long-term contract means Cardiff have set an asking-price of £15 million, an amount Wenger may be uncomfortable paying for a number two goalkeeper.

Robin van Persie scored on his comeback from injury to ensure Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first return to Old Trafford as an opposing manager ended in defeat.
Ashley Young struck a second after half time to end the Bluebird’s resistance and Antonio Valencia nearly added a third late on as he saw his effort hit the post.

Solskjaer, who played for United during an 11 year spell, received a warm welcome from the home crowd as he took his place in the dugout ahead of kick-off.
But the biggest cheer of the night was for van Persie, named in David Moyes’s side for the first time this year.
And the striker made an instant impact upon his return, instinctively nodding past Bluebirds keeper David Marshall after Valencia’s header bounced off the bar after 6 minutes.

Jack Colback’s deflected effort at the death rescued an unlikely point for basement club Sunderland at managerless Cardiff City. Goals from Fraizer Campbell and Jordon Mutch looked to have won a relegation six-pointer for the hosts. Steven Fletcher came off the bench to score the first of two late strikes for the Black Cats, however.
Referee Chris Foy booked Mutch in the first minute for a dive in the area when Sunderland centre back Valentin Roberge pulled out of a tackle. Mutch then headed over from Craig Noone’s centre as Cardiff started strongly.
With five minutes played the hosts went ahead. Campbell set Mutch away and his 20-yard shot deflected past Vito Mannone off Modibo Diakite. The Black Cats keeper then had to claw over from Korean midfielder Kim.
Mannone was almost caught out on 25 minutes when Peter Whittingham curled a free kick to the near post.

Sunderland have won on their last two visits to Cardiff City, but face the Bluebirds for the first time since they left Ninian Park. The Black Cats will start in the Welsh capital bottom of the Premier League despite a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
Gus Poyet’s side followed up two goalless draws and knocking Chelsea out of the Capital One Cup with a win over ten-man Everton on Boxing Day. If two teams from fellow strugglers Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham win earlier on Saturday, managerless Cardiff could also kickoff in the relegation zone.
Malky Mackay was offered the festive olive branch of keeping his job as Bluebirds boss for “the foreseeable future”, but club owner Vincent Tan snapped it on Friday after heavy defeats at Liverpool and home to Southampton either side of Christmas.

Aston Villa’s poor run has stemmed from the dip in form of their front trio Gabriel Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann, and Christian Benteke. They will be without Agbonlahor and Weimann for the Cardiff clash, which means a new look attacking pairing again for Lambert’s men. Left-back continues to be a problem area for the Midlands side, with Antonion Luna and Joe Bennett both ruled out with injury – leaving Lambert to stick with a makeshift left-side with Leandro Bacuna set to deputise.
Cardiff City are playing with confidence, but have had unwanted distractions from the club’s owner Vincent Tan. Nevertheless, they will still be on cloud nine following the Swansea victory and will regard this weekend’s match as winnable considering Aston Villa poor home form – with just one win at Villa Park this season.

Cardiff City beat bitter South Wales rivals Swansea in the two sides’ first top flight meeting. Steven Caulker headed home a corner to settle it.
Who impressed us in the WhatCulture office? Here are out player ratings.
Cardiff
David Marshall: Saved from Michu and an offside Bony. Not a great deal to do, but what the Scottish stopper did was decent enough. 6/10.
Kevin Theophile-Catherine: Crosses blocked time and again. A baffling summer signing, but physical enough to limit little Routledge from getting forward. 5/10.
Steven Caulker: Good set piece threat from the former Spurs and Swansea man. Got on the end of Bellamy corner to score. Great defending to deny Bony thereafter. A towering presence in both areas. Our man of the match. 7/10.
Ben Turner: A good partner for Caulker. Forced Michu and Bony to go deep in search of the ball. Overshadowed by his fellow centre half though.

Former Swansea loan player Steven Caulker settled the South Wales derby in Cardiff City’s favour as the capital club pulled themselves four points clear of relegation danger.
Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay picked Craig Bellamy and faithful retainer Don Cowie in his XI as Korean player Kim and forward Fraizer Campbell dropped out. Otherwise this was the same team that started the goalless draw at Norwich.
Swans manager Michael Laudrup meanwhile had Jonjo Shelvey back in place of Alvaro Vazquez in the only alteration to his side from the home draw with West Ham.
Michu snatched at a shot when a Shelvey centre found him inside five minutes for the visitors and fired wide. Swansea took the game to their hosts in customary passing fashion. Michu worked David Marshall with Shelvey again the source of supply though this time in the centre.

Newcastle United striker Loic Remy scored a first-half double to see the North-East side to victory against newly-promoted Cardiff City.
United took the lead after half an hour through Remy. The France international picked up the ball from distance, and cut inside to hit a fierce drive into the bottom corner.
Just eight minutes later, the same man was at it again for the Toon Army. After Papiss Cisse’s initial shot was saved by Cardiff ‘keeper David Marshall, Remy was on hand to coolly finish the rebound from the edge of the box.
After the break, it was Cardiff who were looking the most likely to pull a goal back, and it took them until the hour mark to make it 2-1. Peter Odemwingie finished inside the area after midfielder Jordan Mutch put him through on goal to threaten a City comeback.

It was a piece of sheer class from in form Cardiff man Jordon Mutch that proved to be the difference between the sides at Craven Cottage on what proved to be a frustrating autumn afternoon for the Fulham faithful.
Mutch’s goal, struck deep in to added time at the end of the second half, stunned the cottage as Cardiff seized all three points to the delight of their travelling fans and the dismay of under fire Fulham boss Martin Jol.
As the boos echoed once more at the end of the ninety minutes at Craven Cottage, the Dutchman cut an isolated figure as he pondered his future, head in hands within the Fulham dugout.
The early encounters saw Fulham attempt to force Cardiff to play the predominant amount of their football in their own half but they were unable to provide any tangible assistance to strikers Darren Bent and...

I was 3/4 last weekend with only Chelsea letting me down. Manchester United and Arsenal were comfortable winners as predicted whilst Sunday’s tip of under 2.5 goals between Southampton and West Ham was more than safe at 0-0.
Premier League sides performed well in Europe midweek with 5 of the 6 teams winning. Manchester United (4-2), Manchester City (3-0), Swansea City (3-0) and Tottenham Hotspur (3-0) all won by at least 2 goals too. Chelsea were shocked at home, losing 2-1 to Swiss Super League side Fc Basel.
Returning to domestic action, Chelsea host Fulham in Saturday evening’s televised game with José Mourinho looking to break this two-game losing streak.
To start the weekend, Norwich City host Aston Villa kickoff the action with both sides recording only 1 win in their opening four games.
Returning from Marseille midweek, Arsenal host Stoke City looking to extend their 6-game winning streak in all competitions.

The new Premier League season will prove to be an interesting challenge to both of these sides. West Ham subverted all expectations last year and finished in an unprecedented 10th position which garnered praise and admiration for Sam Allardyce and the Irons. However, due to the demands of the West Ham faithful, this season will be a tough one for the Hammers as they will be expecting more than last season which could make it very difficult for “Big Sam” to hold on to the hotseat for this season.
As with Cardiff, Malky Mackay’s reputation is currently very respectable after guiding Cardiff who had become the “nearly men” of the Championship to the promised land of the Premiership and will be looking to secure the safety of the Welsh side and follow in the footsteps of bitter rivals Swansea.

Wayne Rooney is a surprise inclusion in the England squad for their clash with “The Auld Enemy” on Wednesday night.
The want-away United striker has played a mere 45 minutes in pre-season, and major questions will be asked whether a player with so little game time should have been included.
Aside from “Wazza”, it’s a vital preparation game for Roy Hodgson ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month. He’ll also have a chance to blood 31-year-old striker Rickie Lambert, the Southampton star who scored 15 Premier League goals last season is yet to be capped for England.
Scotland, under new manager Gordon Strachan, have been going well of late, winning 1-0 in Croatia courtesy of a Robert Snodgrass strike. It’ll be a chance for the former Liverpool manager to try out certain players, with international debuts expected for Brighton and Hove Albion’s defender Gordon Greer and Dundee...

Home Nations rivals Scotland and Wales will face-off tomorrow at Hampden Park, with both sides needing a win to keep any hope alive of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The two bottom sides in Group A met last October at the Millenium Stadium with Wales emerging victorious thanks to a Gareth Bale double. James Morrison had earlier scored for the Scots and Steven Fletcher had a goal disallowed but like much of Craig Levein’s tenure as Scotland manager luck was not on their side.
Chris Coleman also has not endured the best of times as a national team manager. However, he picked up his second win as Wales manager in February when Austria were beaten 2-1. This gives them some momentum going into this match. Scotland also have a new sense of optimism with former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan now at the helm and he will be...

In Batman Begins the Caped Crusader's cape is made of memory fiber, a fictional product of Wayne Enterprises' Applied Science Division. This fiber becomes rigid via an electrical current and allows Batman to glide much like a base-jumper. Four physic students have written a paper entitled 'Trajectory of a falling Batman' which studies the realism of the cape. Through their research they believe that gliding would be possible, but Batman would travel at dangerously high speeds. As he would land it'd be like being hit by a car traveling at 50 miles per hour. David Marshall, Tom Hands, Ian Griffiths and Gareth Douglas found that the wingspan of Batman's cape - at 4.7 metres - is around half that used by a hang glider. If Batman jumped from a building 150 metres high, he could glide a distance of around 350 metres - but the problem arises as Batman's velocity increases during...

The hero Gotham deserves, deserves a bigger cape.
That's what four University of Leicester students discovered when they measured the caped crusader's flying abilities and found that while Batman could fly - or rather, glide through the air - the impact from his landing would likely wreck his body unless he fought crime with a bigger cape.
Reuters reported that the students, in a paper titled, "The Trajectory of a Falling Batman," calculated that if Batman jumped from a building 492 ft. tall, then, with the wingspan of his cape at 15 ft., he could glide about 1,148 ft., growing up to a speed of about 68 miles per hour, before smashing to his projected doom at an estimated 50 miles per hour.
"If Batman wanted to survive the flight, he would definitely need a bigger cape," David Marshall told Reuters. Marshall is one of the students gaining a four-year Master of Physics degree to conduct this study.
