What’s that? You don’t get enough of my writing about comics from Panel Discussion with Mark? You don’t? Thank goodness, you’re in luck. I’ve been sent a handful of books and I’m going to tell you what I thought about them using my written communication skills! Buckle up.
Solid State Tank Girl #1, Alan C. Martin, Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Titan Comics
Tank Girl, eh? I’ve never read anything with her name on it, but I’ve been aware and amused by her existence for some time. I’m a fan of creator Jamie Hewlett’s art but he isn’t actually attached to this book. Instead, we’ve got some satisfyingly scatty artwork from Warwick Johnson-Cadwell which looks totally boss and is a refreshing change from the super-stylish look of many books.
Alan C Martin’s story is a pastiche of Fantastic Voyage in which...

While you savored your colorful eggs, Marshmallow Peeps, and chocolate bunnies this past holiday weekend, many ventured out to their local theaters to cheer on the Joes in G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Paramount Pictures’ Easter basket was overflowing as the action-figure fueled movie took in over $132 million across the globe. Here in the U.S. the Jon M. Chu sequel totaled in the $51 million range.
This isn’t the first cartoon franchise to hit the big screen and won’t be the last. When TV was king, Frankenstein, Jr. and The Impossibles, Pirates of Dark Water, Valley of the Dinosaurs teleported us to another place and the animation studio Hanna-Barbera reigned supreme in every kid’s universe.
Filmgoers have seen their beloved Saturday morning shows and comic book heroes transfer from the small screen to wildly, gigantic movie heroes. Whether you grew up with them as a kid planted in front...

Amanda Dyar: Tank Girl is a series that has been around for many years and reached its height in fame during the mid 90s. How did you first get introduced to the series, and how did you get involved with Everybody Loves Tank Girl?
Jim Mahfood: I first discovered Tank Girl around 1993, my freshman year of college. It completely blew my mind. I had never seen or read anything else like it. Discovering Jamie Hewlett's artwork was a game changer for me.
I got involved with Everybody Loves Tank Girl when Alan Martin and I became friends on Facebook. We...

With both teams looking for their first wins of the season, it was West Brom who took the three points after an early strike from Peter Odemwingie was enough to ensure victory. The Nigerian later missed a penalty, but it didn’t matter for the Baggies as they returned to the Midlands with a vital result.
Norwich City welcomed West Brom to Carrow Road ahead of their Premier League clash. The last time the two sides met in the top flight Norwich ran out 3-2 victors and with the game televised on sky, neutrals and supporters alike would be hoping for another extraordinary fixture.
It was bound to be a tight game, with the hosts picking up just two points in their opening three games, and the Baggies yet to put a single point on the board. For those who’ve watched the two teams in action though this is...

Norwich City battled well but were on the end of a 3-1 loss to Chelsea this afternoon, a result that flattered the Blues. Goals from Jose Bosingwa, a penalty from Frank Lampard and a debut strike from Juan Mata condemned the Canaries to defeat at Stamford Bridge. Grant Holt had pulled one back for the visitors, but by conceding a third penalty in successive games and receiving a sending off for ‘keeper John Ruddy, Norwich ultimately sealed their own fate.
The Canaries were hoping to bounce back after a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Milton Keyes Dons on Tuesday in the League Cup, but were up against it as they travelled to Stamford Bridge to take on Andre Villas-Boas’ multimillionaire side. Surprisingly, out of 8 Premier League games between the two, the Canaries had won four compared to the Blues’ 3. This made the Norfolk side one of only three teams who have...

When patients enter a hospital with a broken leg and emerge with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, something is not right. This is the problem Michael Murphy, a 30-year-old student at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, addressed in his design for Butaro Hospital in Rwanda. His solution, conceived in partnership with the Clinton Foundation and Partners in Health, incorporates local climate, culture, and economic conditions. It eliminates the hallways where patients would gather -- "actually incubating disease," he says -- and encourages them to use the landscaped grounds instead. Inside, a ventilation system moves air from high- to low-pressure areas, industrial fans improve air circulation, and Uv lights help kill tuberculosis particulates. "It's not...
