Left the production of Are You Being Served? (1972) as he was simultaneously appearing in another hit comedy, Spring & Autumn (1972). When Spring & Autumn began it's third series, Martyn could no longer keep with the schedule of both shows and he had to leave Are You Being Served?.
A former member of the Parachute Regiment, he continued parachuting as a hobby after leaving the army.
