Tested for the role of "Scarlett O'Hara" in Gone with the Wind (1939), but ended up with the supporting role of Cathleen Calvert. She filmed screen tests for the role of Scarlett on October 17 and December 21, 1938, and again on January 11, 1939.
Her father was a State Senator.
Before retiring in the 50s, she acted at the Shreveport Little Theater and in plays by Tennessee Williams.
Held a degree in dramatics from the University of Illinois, where she was active in the debate club.
