PETA has branded Lady Gaga and Rihanna as "freaks" after the two pop megastars were spotted wearing clothing and accessories made from animal products.
Rihanna was criticized by the animal rights organization after she took to the streets of London on Thursday wearing a pair of thigh-high snakeskin boots, according to the Daily Express.
"Rihanna may not have a clue that snakes killed for boots are often nailed to a tree and skinned alive. Of course, they can't go on Oprah to cry about it," said a PETA spokesperson, referring to the singer's recent appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talk show.
"Wearing reptile skin is creepy and callous, and it makes her look even more out of touch. She and Lady Gaga seem so desperate to be freaks instead of recognized for their talents that you have to wonder if they realize that they are being laughed at."

Lady GaGa has responded to animal rights group PETA after recent criticism over her use of fur. The group issued a statement earlier this month blasting the pop singer for wearing fur garments, including a wolf stole in a poster image for Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Machete Kills. GaGa was criticised by PETA senior vice president Dan Matthews, who stated: "By wearing those dumb furs in a heat wave, you're making yourself a target just like the mindless Kim Kardashian." The 'Born This Way' singer initially responded via her Twitter account with the comment: "For those press and such who are writing about whether or not my fur is actually real, please don't forget to credit the designer Hermes. Thank you!" TMZ reports that Lady GaGa has now issued a longer statement on the controversy and her (more)...

Is Lady Gaga about to meet the fate of Kim Kardashian and get humiliatingly flour-bombed on a red carpet by animal rights activists for wearing fur? It would appear so, unless Gaga’s many gay fans are successful in a campaign launched in recent days to get the performer to explain a series of recent occasions on which she appears to be donning fur coats.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is imploring Gaga’s Lgbt fans to pressure the performer, who has said in the past, "I hate fur and I don't wear fur." Dan Matthews of PETA, who is gay himself, wrote an open letter to Gaga which appeared on the widely-read gay blog Towleroad on Monday, warning her of the consequences if she didn't offer an explanation, and then spoke out further on Tuesday, again warning Gaga directly that a flour-bombing is in her future.

Kanye West has been condemned by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) over lyrics in his newly-released track 'Theraflu'. The song includes a direct reference to PETA in one verse, where West raps: "Someone tell PETA my mink [coat] is draggin' on the floor." PETA senior vice president Dan Matthews has now responded to West's new track by accusing the musician of condoning cruelty to animals. "What's draggin' on the floor is Kanye's reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings. He's a great musician but doesn't seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes," Matthews said. "We keep hoping that one day he'll find his heart and join evolved style icons - including Russell (more)...

Selena Gomez has reacted to Pink's criticism about horses being painted pink for her music video. Through her representative, the Disney darling released a statement, insisting that they made sure they used a safe material to paint the horse for the shooting of the "Love You Like a Love Song" clip.
"It was important to the Production Company, Record Label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken," her rep told People Magazine. "A non toxic, vegetable based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from the Humane Society was on set supervising."
PETA, however, pointed out that despite the precautions, the horses were still in danger. Spokesman Dan Matthews told E! Online, "There are no safe ways to paint a live horse or any animal. They can have painful allergic reactions to chemicals and there's no way...

In a blog on his website, the rapper responded to recent comments by PETA vice-president Dan Matthews, who described him as "pathetic" and an "idiot" for wearing fur.
