"This is insane! It really was the Bronx Zoo!" Another look back documentary heading to streaming soon. Peacock has revealed an official trailer for a documentary series titled Bronx Zoo '90: Crime, Chaos & Baseball, which is a real mouthful title for this sports history mini-series. It's about the 1990 New York Yankees, which not only was one of the worst years in Yankees history, but one of the most controversial with all kinds of problems with players, management, and beyond. Now that title makes sense! Based on a series of articles from New York Post columnist Joel Sherman, this docu series covers team owner George Steinbrenner’s removal from baseball for trying to buy info on Dave Winfield, and every other mishap and incident. Series interviews include Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Dave Lapoint, Kevin Maas, Jim Leyritz, Jesse Barfield, former Yankees manager Buck Showalter, Yankees' announcer Michael Kay, Brian Cashman,...

It’s a zoo out there. In 1990, the New York Yankees were a disaster; these were not the Derek Jeter years.
With a 67-95 record, 1990 was the first time in 24 years the Bronx Bombers finished in last place in the division, a whopping 21 games behind the rival the Boston Red Sox. It was the team’s worst record since 1912, two years before Babe Ruth even entered Major League Baseball (and eight years before he joined the Yankees). How bad were the 1990 Yankees? They threw a no-hitter and lost.
A new docuseries coming soon to Peacock, “Bronx Zoo ’90: Crime, Chaos, and Baseball,” gives the abysmal season a “The Last Dance” spin, covering both the drama on the field and off. Like what? Well, there was the time when Yankee owner George Steinbrenner paid a notorious gambler to dig up dirt on superstar player Dave Winfield. That gambler is interviewed in...

It doesn’t get any more delightful than the surprising, warm documentary about beloved baseball legend Yogi Berra, It Ain’T Over. Surprising? Yes, as this well-made bio documentary looks back at Yogi’s outstanding baseball career as player, something overshadowed and even forgotten by fans, as he became best known as a lovable pop culture icon and for his “Yogi-isms,” quotable phrases like “it’s deja vu all over again,” “when you come to a fork in the road, take it” and “it ain’t over until it’s over.” Yet Yogi Berra was a baseball player whose record put him among the greats of the game, As actor and baseball fan Billy Crystal put it, Yogi was “the most overlooked superstar in the history of baseball.”
The numbers are impressive, jaw-dropping even, considering what we might think we know about Yogi Berra.

"He was the most overlooked superstar in the history of baseball." "He's just a gentle, kind soul..." Sony Pictures Classics has revealed an official trailer for It Ain't Over, a documentary about the baseball legend Yogi Berra. After initially premiering at the 2022 Nantucket Film Festival last year, it stopped by the Santa Barbara Film Festival earlier this year and will open in May in limited theaters. The documentary film gives "Yogi" Berra his due recapping the illustrious life of a "bad-ball hitting" catcher (for the Yankees), who was also a D-Day veteran, loving husband and father and, yes, product endorser and originator (mostly) of his own brand of proverbs that are now ingrained into everyday life. This features interviews with Billy Crystal, Bob Costas, Vin Scully, Derek Jeter, Joe Torre, Mariano Rivera, Joe Girardi, Ron Guidry, Willie Randolph, Don Mattingly, Tony Kubek, Bobby Richardson, Suzyn Waldman, and Lindsay Berra. It looks good,...

I’m a Red Sox fan of three-plus decades.
The context feels necessary before I admit that Sean Mullin’s documentary It Ain’t Over, focusing on Yankee great Lawrence “Yogi” Berra, actually made me a little bit teary by the end of its 98-minute running time.
Does the doc, premiering to what will presumably be an affectionate hometown audience at the Tribeca Film Festival, have flaws of structure and focus? Heavens yes.
But does it play convincingly, even to a specifically Yankees-hostile critic? Indeed, it does.
Mullin’s central thesis is that Yogi Berra has gone from one of the most adored and acclaimed athletes of his generation to a figure whose actual on-field prowess has maybe been lost to time — usurped in part by the pilfering animated bear who shares much of his name, his baseball achievements obscured by his famous...

With a new decade approaching, Topps unveiled grand plans for an ambitious and unconventional series of baseball cards called Topps Project 2020, a one-of-a-kind trading card event that combined contemporary art and iconic baseball cards.
The concept was simple enough: 20 artists are reimagining 20 iconic baseball rookie cards—Griffey, Mays, Robinson, Koufax, and Clemente, to name only a few—for a complete set of 400 cards to be released over the course of 2020. Each artist brings a unique flavor to the mix. Ben Baller added bling to the Ichiro 2001. King Saladeen was inspired by New York street art when he crafted his 1992 Derek Jeter card. Fucci is going faceless. And JK5 has Mike Trout shooting lasers out of his eyes, in case you had any doubt that the Angels outfielder wasn’t Superman.

To play the role of Jack Pearson, Milo Ventimiglia has had to put himself on a serious facial hair regimen. Most men are allowed to let their scruff come and go as they see fit, growing it out in honor of Movember or through sheer laziness and then shaving it off whenever and wherever the mood strikes them. But as an actor that has now become synonymous with his mustache, Milo doesn’t quite have that luxury. The Garbage Pail Kids trading cards from Topps were a far cry from the company’s offering of sports cards. Instead of displaying the likes of baseball’s George Brett or Don Mattingly, the Gpk cards showcased characters like the skin-shedding Peeled Paul and the snot-spewing Leaky Lindsay. Now Fright Rags has teamed up with Gpk artist Brent Engstrom to create new limited edition shirts that feature an all-new Gpk character composed of popular horror movie villains.
Available for pre-order on http://www.fright-rags.com/ beginning Friday, May 23rd at 10:00am Est through 10:00am Est on Friday, May 30th, these three limited edition Gpk shirts feature a character that’s equal parts Pinhead, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees, and even the bladed ball from Phantasm. Brent Engstrom captures details from these cinematic killers and gives them the trademark Gpk twist. Prices range from $27 to $37 depending on the shirt,...

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks got into an all-out brawl after trading multiple beanings from the mound. Dodgers coach Don Mattingly and Diamondbacks coach Turner Ward even jumped into the scrum, which ended with several players, coaches and personnel ejected.
The Los Angeles Times reports Dodgers darling Yasiel Puig was hit directly in the nose with a pitch by Ian Kennedy in the sixth inning. The Dodgers returned the volley when Zach Greinke took the mound and pelted D-backs catcher Miguel Montero on the back. Both benches emptied at that point, but order was restored and the umpires warned both teams.
When Greinke came up to bat in the seventh, Kennedy pegged him in the shoulder with a pitch and pure chaos ensued. Juan Uribe, Ronald Belisario and Luis Cruz reportedly led the Dodgers bench into a scrum in front of the Diamondbacks' dugout. As several La players scuffled with Coach Ward,...

While we don’t condone violence in sports (save Mma and boxing), yesterday’s bench clearing brawl at the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks contest brought back spirited memories of yesteryear. In particular, Jaleco’s Nintendo title Bases Loaded came to mind.
After Ian Kennedy plunked Zack Greinke in the bottom of the seventh inning, both sides met for a nice scrum in the foul area between home plate and first base.
But batters get hit by pitches all the time, right? They do, but Kennedy’s pegging of Greinke happened after he hit Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig. That was only the second hit in this chain of events; Greinke accidentally hit Cody Ross in the Fifth.
The shot in the seventh was the final straw and led to a cast of old-timers also getting in the mix. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was ejected after throwing a coach to...

The Skippers Tommy Lasorda and Don Mattingly Known as "Donnie Baseball" during his days as the New York Yankees' first baseman in the 1980s and '90s, Mattingly has endured his share of pressure-filled situations on the field, not to mention scrutiny in a town known for critical sports media. The Aug. 17 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine has four split-run covers, featuring former manager Tommy Lasorda and manager Don Mattingly; outfielders Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier; owners Peter Guber and Magic Johnson; and pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Peter Guber didn't want to buy the Dodgers. He had considered it once before, and it didn't work out. Guber had been approached in the early 2000s and declined to join Boston businessman Frank McCourt in his effort to purchase the team from News Corp. Watchmen—Director’S Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday...

MTV Movies Blog Michael Copon Ben Barnes Or Others? Who Are Your Dream Twilight Series Stars?nbspSometimes trading is cool like when I collected baseball cards as a kid and conned my friend into giving me a Don Mattingly rookie card for Dave Sax. Other times it can be pretty annoying like in movie sequels where theyve swapped Keanu Reeves for Jason Patric Michael Keaton for Val Kilmer or Jim Carrey for Jamie Kennedy Steve Carell or anybody else. Nowadays a lot of trading swapping and shuffling is going on in the Twilight universe starting with the director of the hit films. And with the attention now turning to the actors wholl appear in front of Chris Weitzs camera weve just published a new report on two hot young stars who might be headlining New Moon.Would Michael Copon be a moreappropriatelooking Jacob Black than Taylor Lautner? Perhaps. But weve...
