Joanna Lumley, the star of Absolutely Fabulous and Paddington 2, is among a number of British actors to join the cast of ITV’s black comedy Finding Alice.
Made by Happy Valley producer Red Production Company, the six-part season was co-created by Line Of Duty star Keeley Hawes, who has previously been announced in the lead role.
Lumley will play the mother of Hawes’ character Alice, whose husband suddenly dies after falling down the stairs of their new dream home. Alice’s father will be played by Nigel Havers.
Other cast include Gemma Jones (Gentleman Jack), Kenneth Cranham (Hatton Garden), Isabella Pappas (Paranoid) and Sharon Rooney (The Capture).
Hawes created Finding Alice with Roger Goldby and Simon Nye, who have written the show. Red founder Nicola Shindler is the executive producer alongside Hawes, Goldby and Nye. Goldby is directing the first three episodes, while Juliet May also directs.

Keeley Hawes will take the title role in “Finding Alice,” a drama series for ITV about a woman who loses her husband in a freak accident only to find he has left her to unravel a trail of secrets, debt and criminality.
Hawes, who is hot off her star turn in Emmy-nominated “Bodyguard,” created the project, which will trace Alice’s darkly comic journey, with writer-director Roger Goldby and Simon Nye, one of the U.K.’s top TV scribes.
The six-parter picks up events after Alice’s partner of 20 years, Harry, falls down the stairs and dies soon after the couple move into the dream home he designed. Alice discovers that some men, including her late ex, hide stuff that they don’t want to deal with, and that Harry was worse than most.
ITV’s head of drama, Polly Hill, commissioned the series. Production will start early next year.

'Hollywood blockbuster' was never made and instead of a $20m budget only £5,000 of footage was ever shot, court hears
Five fraudsters who pretended to be making a Hollywood blockbuster as part of a £2.8m Vat and film tax credits scam have been jailed.
Tax inspectors were told that A-listers from Hollywood were starring in a £19.6m production that would be shot in the UK.
But the film, Landscape of Lies, was never made and the only footage shot was seven minutes of "completely unusable quality" filmed in a flat and costing just £5,000.
Bashar al-Issa, 34, a former Iraqi national who is now British, of Maida Vale, London, was described as the orchestrator of the fraud. He was jailed for six and a half years by Judge Juliet May, sitting at Southwark crown court in London.
Aoife Madden, 31, an actor of British and Irish nationality from west London, was sentenced to four years and eight months.

Monday’s performance finale of The Voice marked the first live show of Season 2 that didn’t feature backstage correspondent Christina Milian yammering about which contestants were trending on Twitter. Unfortunately, that might’ve been because the show’s main social-media heat probably centered around terms like “Xtina’s side cleavage,” “Adam Levine’s t-shirt,” “Xtina texting,” and “99 Problems lyrics.”
Indeed, a tense vibe percolating through the entire two-hour telecast — and Cee Lo’s “No Problems” t-shirt — seemed to suggest that there might’ve been at least some truth to reports of an ugly Xtina-Adam imbroglio earlier in the day.

Just a housekeeping note: Today in the United States it is President’s Day. We’re going to be giving you new content today, but on a slightly reduced schedule.
The gleeful reporting on many blogs that Anonymous was going to take on the Westboro Baptist Church could have done with some fact checking. Not only did it inspire Wbc themselves to gloat, it wasn’t even real. As Anonymous says, they have bigger fish to fry.
It’s not quite our normal news beat around here, but I feel it would be remiss not to acknowledge the protests in Libya, Bahrain, Yemen, and yes, Wisconsin. I hope that I’m not reading about more violent deaths in the future.
Unknown edged out the much more heavily promoted I Am Number Four for the weekend box office, but once the four day weekend is accounted for, Gnomeo & Juliet may come out on top,...

Poor Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell). As if falling into the Swan hatch and exploding the bomb wasn't enough of a sendoff at the close of Lost's Season 5, she died in the final season opener in Sawyer's arms — after a final kiss and a mysterious message. While fans are still mourning the loss of Dr. Burke, TVGuide.com jumped on the phone with Mitchell, who's shooting ABC's alien-invasion drama V in Vancouver.
