The NFL will stage its first outdoor, cold-weather Super Bowl next year when the game travels to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of the New York Giants and Jets.
That probably won't affect the players, who are used to cold-weather games late in the season. But there are worries that the league won't be able to put on a halftime spectacle comparable to Beyonce's performance this year in the cold weather.
"It's not only the acts and the singers but [also] the crews that have to put the stage together," a source involved with the planning of Super Bowl Xlviii tells the New York Post. "You know, the assembly has to be done a certain way. It's choreographed and rehearsed so it can be assembled and disassembled as fast as possible. And you just can't assemble the stage and break it down fast enough in the cold."

Alicia Keys is getting glowing reviews for her rendition of the national anthem at this weekend's Super Bowl. However, she is also getting criticized for not standing during the performance, during which she was seated behind a grand piano. Some have assumed this is why the NFL is blocking the video of Alicia singing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
"It was disrespectful," one morning show producer told The Huffington Post. "They had enough time and manpower to think of this before the performance. They could have had her stand at her piano keyboard and sing. To me and a lot of my friends, she sounded great but the visual was wrong."
Alicia isn't the first person to appear on live TV and be criticized for not standing during the song. In September 2012, Wolf Blitzer and Piers Morgan both remained seated for at least half of the national anthem at the Republican National Convention,...

The Super Bowl got off to a touching start on Sunday as the Sandy Hook Elementary School Choir and Jennifer Hudson joined forces to sing "America the Beautiful."
The stirring rendition started off with just the children, who swayed in beat with the simple song. Eventually, Hudson took the stage and helped the young ones finish the song. Judging by the reaction of a number of football players on the field, those in the stadium were certainly affected by the performance.
The AP has more on the planning of the performance:
NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday that the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer would join the Sandy Hook chorus. It features 26 children from the school in Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders and six adults were killed in a Dec. 14 shooting rampage.
The performance will be part of CBS's pre-game show before the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens,...

Emotions will be high on Super Bowl Sunday far before the game even begins, when Jennifer Hudson joins the courageous children of the Sandy Hook Elementary School choir to perform a heart-wrenching rendition of ‘America the Beautiful.’
All eyes will be on the 50 yard-line of the Superdome in New Orleans as 26 astonishingly brave children from Sandy Hook Elementary School take the field with singer Jennifer Hudson. It promises to be a performance that makes the entire nation tear up.
CBS will broadcast the performance as a part of their Super Bowl pre-game festivities, according to NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy.
The Sandy Hook Performance Will Inspire Millions
The tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook — where 20 children and six teachers were gunned down — will no doubt be in our minds throughout, but the rendition will also inspire pride and unmatched strength in the millions who watch.

St. Louis — The mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater rattled the nerves of some other moviegoers with opening weekend tickets for the new Batman film and led some cinema chains to add more guards. Experts say it's unlikely, though, that venues will implement even stricter security measures because it would significantly alter the experience of going to a film, concert or game.
The early Friday rampage in Aurora, Colo., at a midnight screening of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," left 12 people dead and dozens wounded. Authorities say the gunman apparently slipped out through an emergency exit to arm himself, then re-entered that way and opened fire on the startled audience.
The attack had a chilling effect on some ticketholders who had been eagerly awaiting what had been billed as the summer's hottest movie.

M.I.A. is 'sorry,' according to a close source -- so why won't she apologize herself? Did Madonna even perform during the Super Bowl halftime show? We can't remember, because all anyone cares about how is that M.I.A. whipped out her middle finger during "Give Me All Your Luvin'." Though the rapper has yet to release an official statement about the incident, the UK's Daily Mail credits a member of M.I.A.'s team as saying it was just "a case of adrenaline and nerves. She wasn't thinking. It wasn't any kind of statement. She was caught in the moment and she's incredibly sorry." Meanwhile, both NBC and the NFL has already profusely apologized for the incident -- simultaneously blaming each other for the slip. "There was a failure in NBC's delay system," says NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy. "The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate,...

M.I.A. has gotten herself into quite a mess. HollywoodLife.com reached out to Madonna's rep following M.I.A.'s shocking display at the Super Bowl on Feb. 5 and it sounds like the Material Girl was just as surprised as NBC, the NFL, and families at home were with M.I.A's behavior. "It was not rehearsed or planned," says Madonna's rep. "No comment from Madonna." Additionally, Spokesman Brian McCarthy said M.I.A. did not do anything similar during rehearsals. It's being reported that M.I.A. may have to pay whatever fine the FCC [Federal Communications Commission] decides to slap on NBC for the incident and a top entertainment attorney tells HollywoodLife.

For all the finger pointing over M.I.A.'s obscene gesture during the Super Bowl halftime show, it may have happened so quickly that many viewers didn't notice or think much of it if they did.
The gesture was the talk of Twitter for hours Sunday night and still was to some extent Monday. Still, the digital video recorder maker Tivo said there wasn't an appreciable bump in viewers who played back the moment where M.I.A. extended her middle finger during Madonna's performance of "Give Me All Your Luvin'" on Sunday night's show.
Tivo has 2 million customers in the U.S. Spokeswoman Tara Maitra said the company would check to see if more people play back the moment.
The NFL and NBC both apologized for the incident.

Call it a finger malfunction? Madonna was supposed to be the center of attention during the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday, but the Queen of Pop was upstaged by her collaborator M.I.A., who flipped off the camera at one point during the performance, prompting swift apologies from the NFL and NBC. "The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing and we apologize to our fans," said Brian McCarthy, spokesman for the NFL, according to the Associated Press. The action eluded the NBC censors by less than a second, as viewers at home clearly saw M.

That’s it. They’re probably going to have hymns or something at the next Super Bowl. While Madonna guaranteed no Janet Jackson-esque nipple slips at her show during halftime, she probably didn’t feel the need to add any more clauses to her promise. Like “My guests and I won’t flip the bird on national television” for instance. M.I.A, as you probably saw last night and as evidenced from the photograph above, decided to point her middle finger directly at the cameras during her performance with Queen Madge for ”Give Me All Your Luvin’.”
While we’re having a giggle about it, we’d still like to pose a question to you. Did she cross the line here? Considering most families in the country were united in watching the show, did her conscious effort to be — what’s the word for it? — “rebellious” really turn you off?...

For all the pomp and excess of Madonna's Super Bowl halftime extravaganza a single extended middle finger by guest singer M.I.A. is likely to be the most remembered piece of the show.
The gesture, accompanied by a barely disguised expletive, came during a performance of Madonna's new single, "Give Me All Your Luvin.'" At the end of her lines, M.I.A. appeared to sing "I don't give a (expletive)," although it was hard to hear clearly.
The incident was reminiscent of Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" eight years ago -- a surprise risque moment in front of tens of millions of unsuspecting viewers. The brief exposure of Jackson's nipple during the 2004 halftime show raised a storm of controversy and put CBS in hot water with the Federal Communications Commission.
The Super Bowl, shown on NBC this year, is routinely viewed by more than 100 million people, the biggest TV event of the year.

The fallout from Janet Jackson's Super Bowl stunt continues for Jackson and singer Justin Timberlake, who tore at Jackson's costume while in a duet with Jackson during the halftime show. Jackson and Timberlake had been slated to appear on CBS' Sunday telecast of the Grammy Awards. Jackson has taken full responsibility for the incident, saying that CBS and other officials had no idea she intended to have Timberlake tear off part of her costume at the close of the song. With top CBS and Viacom brass still angry over the incident, sources close to the situation said the network and Recording Academy officials have decided to rescind Jackson's invitation to present an award at the Grammys if the singer does not voluntarily withdraw from the appearance. There was talk of disinviting Timberlake from his scheduled performance on the show, but sources said no final decision has been made. Meanwhile, the NFL has replaced singer J.C. Chasez as a halftime performer in Sunday's Pro Bowl, an NFL spokesman said Tuesday. The new halftime plan is for a Hawaiian extravaganza featuring hula dancers, drummers, conch shell blowers and local singers. The move is a reaction to the Super Bowl incident, said Brian McCarthy, a spokesman for the NFL's annual all-star game, which will be televised live on ESPN.
