Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally returning to the action genre four years after his last film. "Breakout," a prison escape thriller from director Scott Waugh, is currently set to begin shooting later this year, according to Deadline. The film will end up marking the first time Schwarzenegger has appeared on the big screen since 2019, when he starred in the legacy sequel "Terminator: Dark Fate." Although the former action superstar and ex-governor of California has a number of additional projects in the works, "Breakout" seems to be the most classically Schwarzenegger-ian action movie on his docket and places the actor in the lead role.
Schwarzenegger famously stepped away from the limelight to pursue his political career for several years, prior to returning to acting. He made a small cameo in 2010's "The Expendables," which released near the end of his governorship, before becoming part of the main cast in the next two sequels.

Showtime has secured the right to Surge, a documentary that will play on the premium cabler’s newly established a co-branded multiplex channel SHOxBET on September 8. Co-directed by Hannah Rosenzweig and Wendy Sachs, the film details the historic 2018 midterm elections where a record number of first-time female candidates ran and won. From executive producers Alyssa Milano, Regina K. Scully, Dara, Jedd Canty, and Tanya Selvarantnam as well as advisor Katie Couric, the film sets to expose the double standards, biases and brutal realities women face running for Congress, some without the support of their own party. The doc centers on three congressional candidates in Texas, Indiana, and Illinois, who were each looking to flip their deep red districts to blue, including Lauren Underwood, the youngest Black woman ever to be elected to Congress. A registered nurse and public health expert, Underwood is now on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic...

When Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy's war-set thriller Act of Valor came out in 2012, it wasn't sold on big names or big budget action sequences, but instead the fact that it employed active Navy SEALs to play the lead roles. The film was ultimately dismissed by critics, but it's hard to argue that the strategy didn't work considering the $12 million project wound up pulling in over $80 million worldwide. It's possible that this success ended up having some kind of influence on Clint Eastwood, because The Wrap is now reporting that the veteran filmmaker has enlisted a few to star in his upcoming project American Sniper. Unlike Act of Valor, however, Eastwood's film will at least have some star-power to it. Bradley Cooper became attached to both star in and produce the movie all the way back in 2012. The Academy Award-nominee is set to be joined in the film by...

Scott Waugh, the stuntman-turned-helmer who made his directorial debut with Act of Valor (alongside co-director Mike McCoy), has lined up a new project with DreamWorks. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Waugh has signed on to direct an untitled project written by Con Air scribe Scott Rosenberg. Details on the film's plot are few, but the trade notes that the story will follow a man forced into an unlikely teaming with his brother in order to pull off an intricate heist. Waugh will next release (also through DreamWorks) the video game adaptation Need for Speed . Starring Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots, Dominic Cooper and Michael Keaton, the action film hits theaters on March 14, 2014.

Apparently that was good enough for the studio, because it's now moving forward with a sequel, which will focus on an elite Swat officers. Scott Wiper (The Condemned) is attached to write and direct, while McCoy and Waugh are on board to produce. Relativity Media is also currently developing a TV series based on "Act of Valor."...

Mike McCoy, one of the two Bandito Brothers, is in talks to direct the action thriller "Line of Sight" says Heat Vision.
The story follows an elite commando squad transporting cargo while dealing with a global threat. The film will be shot almost entirely in the first person, giving the viewer a point of view akin to the many Fps games on various consoles like the PS3 and the Xbox 360.
F. Scott Frazier wrote the initial spec script which then was polished by "Halo: Reach" writer Peter O'Brien. Ben Affleck was at one point attached to direct.
McCoy and his partner Scott Waugh helmed the real Seal-team thriller "Act of Valor", one of the big reasons they were hired as they could deliver both polish and realism on a modest budget. Joel Silver and Andrew Rona will produce.

"Act of Valor," the action film from Bandito Brothers directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh, was an interesting aberration, a movie that used actual U.S. Navy SEALs instead of actors to portray a fictionalized account of a real operation and was made with full military approval. It didn't go over well with critics, but it grossed more than $70 million worldwide at the box office -- impressive for a film that not only didn't have stars but also had to keep the names of its active-duty castmembers anonymous. And now Relativity Media and Bandito Brothers are looking to recreate that magic on the small screen by developing a TV series adaptation of "Act of Valor" that they're going to be shopping to both broadcast and cable networks. While the initial announcement doesn't specify whether an "Act of Valor" television show also would use real SEALs, it seems likely given that...

After initially finding life as a training film for Navy Seals, the action film “Act of Valor” nevertheless was fashioned into something of a blind success, hitting $80 million worldwide when it was released this past February. Naturally, interest in military projects has grown again since the film's opening, and now a major cable network looks to bring the film's creative team in for a small-screen endeavor. TNT has announced development on a new military series, entitled “React,” for their channel, and also brought on Barry Josephson (“Bones”) to produce with former “Suits” showrunner Sean Jablonksi penning the script. Director Scott Waugh, half of the Bandito Brothers team who guided “Act of Valor” through its production and editing stages (the other being Mike McCoy), will do the same for the series should it move forward. Whereas 'Valor' centered on a special mission by Navy Seals to recover a...

One of the most profitable movies of the year thus far is the Navy Seals actioner Act of Valor. Made for just over $10 million, the film has already brought in over $80 million, which has led filmmakers behind the feature, Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, to get their pick of the proverbial Hollywood litter. While many jokingly called their debut film Call of Duty: The Movie, their follow-ups are certainly continuing in that path.
Waugh has already confirmed his next film to be an adaptation of the videogame Need for Speed and now he’s added another similar property to his queue. At Comic-Con this week, the director has signed on to bring the videogame Hawken to the big screen for Warner Bros.

When he was sent packing to Las Vegas last month,Adam Lind didn’t whimper or whine. He took the demotion like a man, saying that he was hoping to get back to his 2009 form, the year he won a Silver Slugger. And that’s just what he did.

Directors Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh recently directed "Act of Valor" and are now set to team with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the "Unknown Soldier" action film. Meanwhile, their production company has been working on a sci-fi movie, called "The Prototype," for which the trailer just leaked online. The film has been in the works under the radar, so not much is known about it, except that it revolves around a half-man, half-machine on the run from the government. It's directed by Andrew Will, and stars Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger), Joseph Mawle (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Anna Anissimova. "The Prototype" is expected to be released sometime next year. Check out the trailer below. Trailer:...

What is “The Prototype”? From the looks of it, it’s a badass, balls-to-the-wall sci-fi action movie due out in 2013. The film was apparently produced, shot under the radar, and beyond the reach of the Hollywood studios, similar to how Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh (re: The Bandito Brothers) did their Navy SEALs movie “Act of Valor”. That film wasn’t shown until it was completed and the creative team put it out to the various studios to bid on. It appears writer/director Andrew Will and his producing partner Shawn Wallace are approaching “The Prototype” in similar faction. And in fact, the Bandito Brothers are co-producers. As far as I can tell, the film is about a new military weapons design of some sort that takes over its inventor. Or he takes it over. Well, one of those. I don’t know who the lead is, and in fact,...

Chicago – “Act of Valor” is a woeful miscalculation on every conceivable level. To call it a movie would be inaccurate. You know those slickly photographed, stupendously smug army recruitment videos that often appear in pre-show movie theater ads? Imagine one of those videos stretched to two hours and passed off as entertainment. It’s like a Michael Bay knockoff without the aliens.

It’s right to pay homage to the men and women who fight for our country every day, and Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh’s Act of Valor does that expertly with some stunts and firefights mapped out according to the experiences of actual Navy SEALs. Unfortunately, to make that happen they followed a string of logic that Hollywood has proven wrong many times before: if you want something to look authentic, it has to be authentic. With that in mind, they insisted on actual Navy SEALs to play the part of the film’s commandos and in so doing they benefitted from the use of some of the military’s great big toys but they left the task of acting to people who were woefully ill-equipped. Act of Valor gives us lots of bang for our buck, but the Navy cooperation came with a price that has left the...

Act Of Valour co-director Scott Waugh clearly loves speed and vehicles - which is perhaps not all that shocking for a stunt man-turned-megaphone-wielder. Valour was full of jeeps, choppers and people moving fast; he already has a Fast & Furious-style project called High Speed gunning its engine in the development garage, and now DreamWorks has offered him the keys to the Need For Speed adaptation. The company dipped into its freshly acquired funds last month to buy the rights to EA’s long running game franchise and has set Real Steel writer John Gatins the task of turning it into a movie alongside co-writer / brother George.Little is known about the plot, though given that the most recent edition of the game, The Run, features actual characters involved in a cross-country race, chances are that’ll have some impact.Right now it’s still just at the offer stage; Waugh is a busy man,...

Seeing as Act of Valor was constantly, condescendingly referred to as Call of Duty: The Movie, there’s something — dare I say it? — oddly poetic about this next piece of news. Variety informs us that Scott Waugh, co-director of this year’s surprise action hit, has entered talks to helm DreamWorks’ video game adaptation Need for Speed.
First: There’s no confirmation on a plot, but Real Steel scribe John Gatins and his brother, George, developed an idea that was to the studio’s liking, and the latter sibling is now working on a screenplay. What’s more, the tentative, big picture — to the shock of no one who’s read something about modern Hollywood — calls for a franchise in the vein of The Fast and the Furious. (Need 5.)

While David Ayer has become something of a cop drama / thriller specialist, he has worked in other genres, including writing the scripts for U-571 and The Fast And The Furious. Now he’s targeting the Drug Enforcement Agency with Ten, which Arnold Schwarzenegger is attached to star in. Ten finds an elite DEA strike team assembling to raid a drug cartel’s safe house. But while it appears above board, the action is actually the cover-up for the theft of millions in illegal merchandise. The team members (including, we assume, Schwarzenegger, unless he’s playing the big villain) think they’ve gotten away with it, but then they’re picked off one by one…Ayer isn’t actually writing this one – that job went to A-Team scribe Skip Woods. Second fact: at this year’s festival in Columbus, Ohio, the former bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-Governator-turned-actor revealed his upcoming slate of action movies, leading us to believe that the Arnold just does not stop. At a press conference, Schwarzenegger discussed his next film projects, which will begin with The Expendables 2, the Sylvester Stallone-penned sequel to 2010’s adrenaline-cased sausage fest, due out in August.

Billed as an “unprecedented blend of real-life heroism and original filmmaking”, in a somewhat unique cinematic venture, you won’t find the main actors involved in Act of Valor listed anywhere in the film’s credits. That’s because they don’t actually hail from that profession and instead are genuine living and breathing U.S. Navy SEALs and U.S. Navy Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen, drafted in by the makers to play the parts of seasoned combat veterans rather than having pampered actors do the job.
Portraying characters who are (presumably) close in temperament to themselves, an elite crew of globe-trotting soldiers named the Bandito Platoon embark on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent in the Mexican jungle. During their exploits, they uncover an intricate terrorist plot which is designed to flood Us soil with hard-to-trace devices which possess the potentially devastating means of unleashing mass destruction across the country.

Act Of Valour
Review by Dan Clark of Movie Revolt
Stars: Alex Veadov, Roselyn Sanchez, Nestor Serrano, Jeffrey Barnachea, Drea Castro | Written by Kurt Johnstad | Directed by Mike McCoy, Scott Waugh
The simple premise of Act of Valour has sparked some controversy. Some see a film made by the U.S. Military that casts real life Navy Seals as an opportunity to see a true reflection of the American spirit while others see it as nothing more than a propaganda piece. Personally I feel the idea of casting real life Navy Seals in a film has some potential. With their knowledge and background we could get a film that replicates the trial and tribulations they actual go through on a daily basis. Action that wipes away the cleanliness and polish we have come to expect, and injects a sense of realism to provide something new and different. However that wasn’t the case at all.

The Lorax's Blockbuster Surprise: Box Office. [Photo: Denzel Washington, Safe House.] At no. 2 in North America this weekend, March 2-4, the R-rated comedy Project X grossed a better-than-expected $20.77 million, including $1.15 million from Thursday midnight screenings, according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Most predictions had the sex comedy reaching the high teens on its first weekend. Produced by The Hangover's Todd Phillips and directed by feature-film first-timer Nima Nourizadeh, Project X features Thomas Mann, Oliver Cooper, and Jonathan Daniel Brown. Revolving around found video footage and a "wild party," Project X was made for a reported $12 million, though it's unclear how much distributor Warner Bros. spent marketing it. Either way, reviewers didn't find Nourizadeh's party wild enough, as the film's approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' top critics is a dismal 26%. At no. 3 was last weekend's no. 1 movie, Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh's Act of Valor. The flag-waving actioner brought in $13.7 million,...

After the action movie "Act of Valor" took in more than $24 million at the box office this past weekend, reports are pouring in that studios all over Hollywood are opening new divisions for soldiers and military advisers to pitch larger-than-life-adventures with an ultra-realistic edge.
Okay, that's not strictly true, but when a left-field contender comes in and triumphs at the box office, pundits and bean-counters are quick to examine why it did so well, and then how quickly and effectively that success can be re-created. The good thing about that kind of analysis is that we at NextMovie are geniuses, so we already know the five reasons it prevailed over more conventional or more commercially appealing material.

When a CIA agent named Lisa Morales (Roselyn Sanchez) is made by the smuggling kingpin she's been observing, she finds herself in the hands of a brutal, bloodthirsty gang of trained killers. Christo (Alex Veadov) is the man behind the cartel, and he's a dangerous fellow to be at odds with, if only because he seems to have global contacts and an effortless supply of thugs. Meanwhile, terrorists leader Abu Shamal (Jason Cottle) is looking for a way to improve his terrorism technology while getting his associates into the United States via Mexico.
If you're wondering if these two things are related, just ask the United States Navy's Sea Air and Land Teams, aka the Navy SEALs. After all, there's no team better equipped to take...

Channing Tatum, Rachel McAdams, The Vow Act Of Valor #1, Tyler Perry/Good Deeds So-So: Box Office Trailing Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh's Act of Valor and Tyler Perry's Good Deeds on Friday, at no. 3 the Rachel McAdams / Channing Tatum romantic drama The Vow added $3.25 million according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. The Vow's current total domestic gross is $96.25 million, which means it should be passing the $100 million milestone some time today — or at the very latest tomorrow afternoon. The Vow has a rotten 26% approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' top critics, but that certainly won't stop it from becoming Rachel McAdams' biggest personal box-office hit (not including the Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes movies and the Vince Vaughn-Owen Wilson comedy Wedding Crashers). The Vow is already ahead of The Time Traveler's Wife (2009) and Red Eye (2005), it's far ahead of Morning Glory (2010), and without adjusting for inflation,...

Tyler Perry, Gabrielle Union in Tyler Perry's Good Deeds This Oscar weekend, Feb. 24-26, the top movie at the North American box office will undoubtedly be Act of Valor, featuring (as per the film's publicity) actual Navy SEALs in a story of red-white-and-blue courage and valor and rotten reviews (a mere 19% approval rating among Rotten Tomatoes' top critics). According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh's action flick easily topped Friday's box office, collecting $9.05 million (about $400,000 less than early estimates posted late last night) at 3,039 locations. As per Deadline.com, distributor Relativity Media acquired the film for $13 million, in addition to committing itself to spending $30 million in marketing and distribution. For a $43 million investment, a likely $25-27 million in three days wouldn't be bad at all. (At Box Office Mojo, Ray Subers had been expecting a $20.5 million opening.) But that total isn't great,...

Paul Rudd, Jennifer Aniston, Wanderlust It's Oscar weekend. So, what are the top movies at the North American box office? The Artist? The Descendants? Hugo? Try Act of Valor, featuring (as per the film's publicity) actual Navy SEALs in a story of red-white-and-blue honor and valor and all that good stuff that unpatriotic film critics have given a putrid 19% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes (top critics). This week, Fat Guy Kevin Carr fights a battle of wits between the stuffy and overly dramatic Oscar contenders that will be buzzing through the weekend and the genre-specific schlock that is being released with no hope of winning any sort of award at all. Before hunkering down on the couch to watch Billy Crystal time warp back into the mid-90s on Sunday, Kevin skydives into the multiplex to check out Act of Valor. Then he joins a commune to be a modern hippie while watching Wanderlust. Finally, he leaves the multiplex to stalk Amanda Seyfried and her on-screen sister because he believes he’s at least as creepy as the legions of creepy guys in Gone. Oh, and that Tyler Perry movie? He skips that with a wave of the hand and a snap of the fingers. If it ain’t got Madea in it, it ain’t worth watching! Want...

If you’ve been paying attention to Act of Valor’s aggressive marketing campaign, you’re aware that it’s a fictional film starring real-life active-duty Navy SEALs that aims for as much realism as possible in its depiction of their tactics and missions. That’s a fascinating concept and it’s been seamlessly executed by filmmakers Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh. Initially conceived as a training film, the picture gradually evolved into the hybrid that it is once the co-directors sold the SEALs on the project, proposing to “take Top Gun, pull Maverick out and put in the real Maverick,” as Waugh told the Los Angeles Times. But at the end of the day, this is a long-winded SEALs recruitment tool, a noble gesture that’s just not sufficient basis for a feature film. The usual cynicism with which one would greet a feature-length ad doesn’t apply because, obviously...

Chicago – The military soldier is one of the most fascinating character studies in art. He or she works at the highest level their training allows, and routinely go into battles based on decisions made far away from their own reality. “Act of Valor” attempts to define that loyalty - to themselves, their fellow soldiers and their country.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The film seems to go about it in the wrong way. Real Navy Seal specialists, whose unit most famously accomplished the takedown of Osama bin Laden, are used here as props for a speculative fictional scenario. Asking these men and women to be “actors,” while at the same time surrounding them with villains that would be more at home in a James Bond movie, lessens the impact of what they really do. If this film was trying to tug at our patriotic heartstrings - and given the emotions directed toward the missions...
