A lot of celebrities had words to say about the passing of Donna Summer, but leave it to Sir Elton John to squeeze in a dig at (presumably) Madonna in his. "I'm so sad. This woman was the queen of disco and so much more. Her records sound as good today as they ever did. That she has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a total disgrace, especially when I see the second-rate talent that has been inducted. She is a great friend to me and to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and I will miss her greatly."
It's common wisdom that Gene Roddenberry pushed to have actors of color like Nichelle Nichols on Star Trek to create his perfect future world, but was it actually NBC recruiting people of color like Nichols and George Takei to help launch their switch to color television?...

Mark Ruffalo is attached to star in Foxcatcher, the story of paranoid John du Pont, who murdered Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, with Channing Tatum to play his brother.
Darren Criss is philosophic about Glee and the graduation for some characters (Blaine is a junior). But he does say that Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine will deal with the possibility of becoming a long-distance couple, and they still have Brittany's dinosaur themed prom to get through, including a scheme to make sure Kurt isn't voted prom queen again.
Queerty has an interview with our own Dennis Ayers about the future of websites like AfterElton.com with Logo's shift in programming, and it even includes digs about me including news about Human Centipede 3. But the comments are where the real fun starts.
Congratulations to Judas Kiss, who won Gaybies for Best Gay Drama, Best Lead Actor (Charlie David), and Best Supporting Actor...

I admit, one of the more interesting pilots to me is Last Resort, about a nuclear sub that refuses a sketchy order, takes over a listening station and declares itself the world's smallest nuclear power, with 24 warheads. Add to that concept hunky Scott Speedman, and you have my attention, Hollywood.
The big news of the day seems to be conservative Arizona Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu coming out when confronted with accusations he threatened his long term illegal boyfriend with deportation after they broke up. I don't know much about Babeu's history beyond his ridiculously harsh immigration policies (which seem hypocritical if he was boning an undocumented immigrant Note: Updated terminologyfor years), so I'll let Chris Geidner take over.
Of course, in hypocrisy races, conservative Houston radio host Michael Berry was inside a gay bar during a drag show when he was spotted leaving and committing a hit-and-run, according to eyewitnesses of the accident.

We had mentioned over the weekend that George Clooney was producing a movie about the Smothers Brothers. It's based on the book Dangerously Funny: The Uncensored Story of 'The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour by Dave Bianculli. According to Bianculli, his dream casting has Neil Patrick Harris as Tommy Smothers.
Speaking of George Clooney, he tops the list for who women would most like to kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve, with Jennifer Aniston topping the list for men. Obviously, they don't talk to the same men I talk to.
Just go read this family's story. Do it. Go on.
Conservative talk show host Michael Savage has offered Newt Gingrich $1 million to drop out of the Republican presidential race. He feels that Newt has no chance of beating President Obama. Shh! Don't tell him!
Considering that Russell Brand is almost like a living, breathing cartoon character to start with,...

J.Lo's ex (the first one) Ojani Noa is currently finalizing a deal to pose for Playgirl. The sticking point in the negotiations isn't "if" he'll do full frontal, but if they'll pay him enough for full frontal. Just what does full frontal go for these days?
FX has renewed Louie, Wilfred, and given a double order to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I'm just hoping that Wilfred can stay delightfully twisted for an extended run. How long can Elijah dog sit and get high before he's living in Wilfred's dog house after foreclosure?

When I first heard they were going to make a Celebrity Wife Swap, I couldn't imagine what kind of celebrity would do something like that. Now I know: Dee Snider and Flavor Flav. Makes perfect sense.
I'm not quite conversant enough to understand the impact, but there'snow a legal case...

The big news seems to be that Simon Cowell has picked his X-Factor: USA judges (even if he hasn’t signed contracts with them yet). He wants Paula Abdul back at his side, along with Cheryl Cole. I know Cheryl is big in the UK, but most Americans know nothing about her.

From the files of heartwarming stories about politicians, in Michigan, State Senator Bruce Caswell wants to pass a law that clothing vouchers for foster kids can only be used in second-hand stores like the Salvation Army. Because nothing helps a kid fit in at school like a Bush/Quayle sweatshirt.

- Quick Links > Mary Queen of Scots > Warner Independent Pictures > Scarlett Johansson > The Prestige > The Other Boleyn Girl > Brilliant > The Nanny Diaries Murder plots, illegitimate children, political espionage and treason involving 4 different countries and 2 monarchs, one of whom is eventually executed. Sounds like something only Hollywood could create right? Wrong. This was the life of Mary Queen of Scots, who ruled Scotland and for a time France in the 16th century. Her relations (or lack thereof) with her cousin Queen Elizabeth I of England led to treachery, deceit, murder and nearly complete political destruction. Thus begins the story as told by screenwriter Johnny McGovern, best known for penning Liam. The flick, which has been plagued by rumors since its announcement in 2004, is set to star Scarlett Johansson and is being produced by her mother and manager Mary Johansson’s 2929 Productions for Warner Independent Pictures. The story will center around Mary

Rosie O'Donnell is dipping a toe back into comedic television with Logo. The gay-themed cable channel from MTV Networks has picked up six half-hour episodes of sketch comedy showcase The Big Gay Show, to be executive produced by O'Donnell and Dan MacDonald and Joe De Hierro of Oh Really Prods. "Rosie O'Donnell's comedic precision and unique bond with the LGBT audience will provide an exceptional artistic foundation for a cast of fresh and inventive performers," said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks Music Group and president of Logo. "Dan and Joe came to me with a visionary idea for a show that has not been done before. I'm excited to be part of something new, fresh and hilariously creative," said O'Donnell. The cast includes Erica Ash, Dion Flynn, Julie Goldman, Stephen Guarino, Johnny McGovern, Kate McKinnon, Nicol Paone and Michael Serrato. "Big" will premiere sometime next year. Jim Biederman (Kids in the Hall) will also produce. Amanda Bearse (Mad TV) will direct.
