Go 8-Bit's Steve McNeil on how to be a good parent, whilst fitting in a need to play videogames...
Parents: what do you love more - your children or video games?
“Don’t make me choose!” you scream through the tears, as I twiddle my moustache, stroke an evil-looking cat, and cackle like a cartoon witch.
I won’t make you choose, obviously. This is just a hastily-thrown together beginning to an article about how gamers can still find time to indulge their habit after having kids. It’s something I’m trying to find a solution to myself. Even as I wrote that sub-par opening, I had to stop for ten minutes because my daughter insisted that rather than do my job, we instead work together to push a selection of colourful shapes into a spherical plastic elephant.
If you have kids, hopefully this article will...

Want to catch up on the wonderful Neo Geo software catalogue without breaking the bank? Talk to Nintendo...
When the Nintendo Switch was announced last October, the world united as one to celebrate this great opportunity to purchase an emulated version of Super Mario Bros on the Nes on a new system for the 400th time. It got more sincerely excited about the prospect of being able to take Gamecube and/or Wii titles ‘on the go’. The Virtual Console (Nintendo’s online retro game store) has become an integral part of Nintendo’s offerings, having formed a central part of its systems’ game library for Wii, 3Ds and Wii U.
However, when the system arrived, the Virtual Console wasn’t there. Indeed, there was little in the way of ‘online’ at all, just a vague notion that things would be appearing later in the year. Given...

Zelda is the standout amongst Nintendo Switch launch titles - but there are some others worth checking out too...
Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild is one of the best videogames ever. And that’s lovely. But when it’s going to cost you over £300 to play it on your new home console/portable gaming tablet when you could have just bought it for the Wii U, it’d be nice if there were some other things worth playing too, to make you feel better about blowing all that cash.
Thankfully, despite the launch being dominated by the universal acclaim for Link’s latest, there’s a bunch of other games that are worth your time and money. Here’s our guide to the rest of Nintendo Switch’s launch titles.

Stocks of the Nes Mini are running short - but you could try buying an original retro console from eBay. Here are some tips...
Nintendo have something of a reputation for not making enough of their products. The Wii, amiibo, and now the Nes mini were all rarer than hen’s teeth upon launch.
Received wisdom is that scarcity drives demand for their products but, if I live to be 100, I’ll never understand why you wouldn’t try to make enough of your things so that everyone who wants to buy your things can buy your things. But then I only did the one business degree, so what do I know?
If you were one of the many people hoping to get your hands on a Nes mini for yourself or a loved one this Christmas, but missed out on the initial launch stock, despair not.
