Latido is bringing onto the Toronto market “The Weasels,” the first live-action film from Argentina’s Juan José Campanella since he won a foreign-language Oscar for “The Secret in Their Eyes” in 2010.
Latido will introduce the film to buyers via what Latido head Antonio Saura describes as a “pre-trailer.”

Media Networks company, produce the pic, in co-production with Spain’s Tornasol (“The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”) and Argentina’s Jempsa, whose late head, Jorge Estrada Mora, produced five of Campanella’s films.

Annecy, France — India’s Green Gold Animation has boarded 3D animated musical comedy “Escape to India,” it was announced at Annecy’s Mifa. The company will co-produce alongside Gastón Gorali of Argentina’s Mundoloco, who’s producing his first feature.
“When Gastón told me about the idea and showed me the character sketches, I immediately fell in love with the project. We felt emotionally connected with the storyline, and more importantly, we loved all the talent involved in ‘Underdogs’,” said Green Gold Animation CEO Rajiv Chilaka, referring to the 2013 animated feature directed by Mundoloco co-founder Juan José Campanella.

UK and Argentine companies join forces to co-produce and finance a slate of six features over the next two years.
UK company 369 Productions is moving into international co-production in a partnership with Argentine company Jempsa.
Headed by Victor Glynn and David Burgess, 369 Productions co-produced The Unbeatables [pictured] with Jempsa’s Jorge Estrada Mora, who has worked with Glynn on a number of films since 1991.
Under the deal, the two companies have agreed to co-produce and finance a slate of six features over the next two years starting with End of Term, written by John Paul Chapple, which is scheduled to begin pre-production in October and will be shot in Argentina.
Costing $22m to produce, The Unbeatables is the biggest-grossing Argentine film in history and the most successful Latin American animated feature ever.
It opens nationwide in the UK from this Friday [Aug 15] through Vertigo Films, having come out in Scotland on Aug 8.

The Weinstein Company has acquired rights in Us, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and France to Juan Jose Campanella’s animated feature and Argentinian smash.
TWC will release the film in English as Underdogs on August 27 featuring the voices of “several A-list Hollywood actors”.
The story centres on a reluctant hero who recruits players from his foosball table and magically brings them to life to help him win a football match and save his town.
Producer Jorge Estrada Mora represented the filmmakers.

Vertigo Films has dated award-winning 3D animation The Unbeatables (Foosball) for an Aug 8 release in the UK.
Directed by Juan José Campanella, the film was Argentina’s highest grossing film of 2013 and follows the adventures of Amadeo and his table football team who magically come to life.
The English version will be voiced by Rupert Grint, Anthony Head, Ralf Little, Rob Brydon and impressionist Alistair McGowan.
“The casting of Rupert and Rob was inspired and was my perfect cast. I loved Rupert’s work in Harry Potter and I knew he would bring an honesty and intelligence to the part of Amadeo,” commented The Secret in their Eyes director.

It will mark the film’s international premiere (it was released in Argentina last month under the title of Metegol), and is out of competition.
In Argentina, the film is setting records and has already had more than 1 million viewers.
The Argentina-Spain co-production is about a smalltown bar worker who takes on a top footballer in a game of table football. The players in the table football game begin to speak to him.

France’s TF1 Google won a round this week when a French court dismissed claims from French television channel TF1 that Google should be liable for TF1 programs that appeared on Google’s YouTube video website. The court ruled that YouTube is a “hosting” service and thus isn’t responsible for filtering videos its users upload for copyright infringement — as long as the website has a system for removing content upon notification by owners.
